I am not educated enough to be sympathetic with Hamas, but I kno that the bombin off Gaza was wrong. In no way can the Israelis keep collateral damage low in an area like that. The rockets from Gaza came from a people starved of rights through a seige of their area. Despite what Israel stated Gaza was an area of humanitarian crisis, according to many charities working from the area. The rockets came from extremists. Extremists gain power when an opressive government put down the normal people

I very much enjoyed having this very mature conversation with you. You seem like an intelligent and thoughtful person and a decent human being. For the record my sympathies are fully with Israel. Yet I have to agree with you their method is blunt. The kind of organizations that can tackle this sort of problem doesn't exist yet. The real victims of course are ordinary Gazans. Their choice seem to have been limited to die at the hands of Israelis or die at the hands of Hamas. Is someone listening?

It seems not. Those that do are struggling to perform. The UN aid agency have difficultiy getting aid throu, and when they did HAMAS "stole" it. They gave it back, but for those 2 or 3 days, little could be done. I guess we will see what Israeli elections can bring

Have you been to Switzerland? If you have you will know that an average Swiss will own a machine gun and enough ammo to wipe out a whole army. They are not defending themselves. Defenders put their lives on the line first to PROTECT the lives of their people. What Hamas is doing is just the opposite. The Palestinians do not have the capacity to fight a conventional war. So they dress as civilians, hide among civilians use their guns to intimidate (Arab) civillians and indoctrinate their children to do the same. And fight from within the civilians and dressed like them. The Israelis have no good way distinguishing civilians from the enemy despite their best efforts. Conventional indicators like age and gender does not apply in this case....

You have no way of knowing unless you kill him and look inside the room he was guarding. And because he considers you his enemy (you being a jew), he will not co-operate...bottom line, how many combatants died vs how many civilians died depends on the personal sympathies of the one who did the counting.
