They were actually equals at singing, but the problem is Aretha's bad lifestyle choices caught up with her and so for a few decades now Aretha has been the better of the two. That's just fact. Patrick Swayze died of it, a gospel legend Bishop Walter Hawkins died of it, and the Apple CEO Steve Jobs had it, but he caught it early and recieved treatments for it, and I believe still is. To a reaction to the news of Aretha Franklin 's diagnosis with pancreatic cancer, Patti gave the Queen of Soul a moving tribute, saying:
"I called her two weeks before it was publicized, so I knew for a
long time that she had pancreatic cancer. And I knew for a long time
that she had lost 50 lbs. So, people are going around with bad rumors

@yaskam That's one of the hardest cancers to treat, especially when not caught soon! Patrick Swayze died of it, a gospel legend Bishop Walter Hawkins died of it, and the Apple CEO Steve Jobs had it, but he caught it early and recieved treatments for it, and I believe still is. I pray Aretha pulls through, but I will say that it's a true saying that being at a certain weight actaully can bring on some cancers, perhaps if she tries to drop some pounds, she may be better!

Aretha is by far the better vocalist out. She has the most resonance, a more forward sound, flexability, and agility. Patti's voice is shrill, and loud. That is the only thing Patti has on Aretha, LOUDNESS. Patti's voice is so much thinner and for Aretha to be a mezzo she kicks Patti's ass.

Patti is one of these rarer vocal phenomenas that can sing their heart, and soul out by means of her modal register's aptitude for stratospheric heights through upper CHEST/MIXED-into-HEAD BELTING, the only physiological method to reach and phonate such notations in FULL VOICE! Patti is not much of an artist by any standards. What she is, is a vocalist. She uses her ranges instead of interpreting a song.
