The 55 and 56 have basically the same body,. but the different side trim does make it look swoopier (not a real word but I like the way it sounds), Too bad cars now don't have bright interiors like this.
@cheddyrod Hey, Chester! I prefer the side styling of the 56..and agree about the swoop! I think the lack of imaginative color in modern interiors is what I miss the most! In my opinion, there is no excuse for that...it just seems to be a given in modern automotive manufacturing! Thanks! :) Jack
Beautiful car, these Mercs always remind me of another 50's favorite of mine... The Packard Clipper :) They share many exterior similarities, but who cares, they're all beautiful :D
@drewerz01 Hey, Mike! I would agree with that..there are many similarities in style between this Mercury and the last big Packards. Who would have thought that they would unfortunately both share the same fate! Thanks! :) Jack
Ahhhhhhhhh, the big M! Mercury styling was always exciting to look forward to.......Too bad Ford chose to bring this great car to a close this year.....This one is a beauty .....nice coverage Jack.
@donnyboyblue Hey, Donny! I think Mercury could have been saved if Ford had been fastidious in giving it a strong, separate identity. Lately it has not had that, in my opinion...and that is always a strong clue that the marque is on borrowed time.
@raconter1 i think merc was always like that ,,not to separate from a ford..i think the 57/60 mers are the only ones that stood alone for ford ,,but in the 60'sand 70's at least if you bought a merc it was longer then the ford..in 79 ford and merc were the same car till today ..the last few years of merc just looked to much like the ford..they even used the crown vic tailites and they should not of done that ..my 90 grand marquis even share's the ford dash ,,,the 56 is a real nice car though
