These Boxes are great.. But they are suppose to be hooked up to a Diaphone horn that will blast across town the box #... Look up Diaphone horn on you tube for details! My town has 3 horns..one in each corner of the district.. They sound amazing when a box call comes in!
I had to rewire the mechanism to get normally open at rest and momentarily closed when the actuator hits the teeth on the number wheel.Just use your ohm meter to probe and find the needed circuit.I don't remember the locations I changed but I believe is was just 1 or 2. You must also grind down the long high section on the wheel or the bell will ring during that high section in addition the high points of the teeth, Good luck.
I once had to pull one of these alarms in San Francisco when there was a fire. There was glass and I was not sure how to break it so I decided to kick it. My friend helped me to keep balance when I kicked the glass. Was it ok that I kicked the glass or should I have done it differently. What would you have done to break it? Was it normal it took more than one kick?
Those Gamewell boxes are a real thing of beauty, and according to their website are still made. Relatively fail-safe operation. I always got a kick of the wide variances in code speed with different boxes. Thank you for posting this clip!
I am amazed that you know it is a V33. The 12 volt flasher was removed to allow for a standard socket with 6 volt lamp. A 6 volt lantern battery is mounted on the back of the post.I modified the code wheel and circuity to allow for a normally open circuit. Thanks for looking.
I'm still waiting for someone to show an SAE horn with the V33....About circa 70'/80's Somebody on YouTube told me they were still searching around for one.
Why are they outside?

How did you get the light to blink the box number? My firebox circuit is normally closed, and opens momentarily to ring the bell.

No just a simple light bulb.

Oh okay it looked like a lens and bulb from a Space Age Electronics lightplate.

That's because it is a SAE remote incandescent light.

My junior high school had those pull stations. The horns were very loud explosion-proof Federal Signal horns.
