In view of the complete lack of knowledge of American history recently displayed by Michelle Bachmann, I have come to believe that there is an actual desire on the part of the Republican Party to raise a complete generation of people who know nothing. That way they can use demagoguery to continue their all-out war on the Middle Class without anyone being wise to their scheme.
@simnszz I know, what is that mess? It's part of the foundation of our country a free education! Poor kids have to learn so much stuff that it seems like they barely can read, write and add. As long as you can poke one key at a time, on a keyboard kids, you'll be okay! WAHT?? (Sarcasm...)
I'm a teacher who's looking at leaving the profession and a large part of my pondering this move is the absolute CRAP load that is NCLB. What a draconian bucket of vomit that was from a supposedly "small government" administration.
The teachers and public employee unions didn't get us into two uwinabble wars, bankrupt the banks, steal tarp money, and spill oil in the gulf coast. Remember that.
Fantastic job how you brought in so many crucial points in one short song! And the Pearson data and point is REALLY important information for folks to have. There is massive profits being made in the edubiz, and Pearson is raking it in. I hope this goes viral!
@cjoyler "Pearson is raking in profit" So what? Pearson isn't the one setting education policy. Pearson is only responding to a need. By and large the people buying Pearson resources are teachers and administrators themselves. If that number is indeed correct (I would like to see a source) that would suggest that they like Pearson resources and believe that having them on hand can only help their students. Shouldn't you be happy that the government is investing in Education resources?
@XarxesB and Haliburton didnt set policy either. or Comcast, or Enron.
the truth is they do, with money. these programs are nothing but corporate welfare, no different than when a country gives foreign aid to a poor nation with riders that that money has to be spent on the products made in the "gracious" donor nation.
@PMCMANIS Where do you suggest teachers get resources from? Should they create them all themselves? . The government gives money to schools to pay teachers and purchase resources. Many people thought Pearson published quality resources so they bought them with the money the government mandated for education. This is much different that lending Kenya $2 million dollars to build a power plant that they don't need or Black Water lobbying to start wars so they can supply mercenaries.
I...LOVE...THIS...VIDEO!!! You've summarized the most evil of the evil in three minutes and thirty-eight seconds. Very...well...done! Thanks, you all. I'm a fellow teacher from Texas, and we're all going through the same torment of seeing children dehumanized through these bad policies. Action, action, action. Perhaps your song can become our anthem.
I'm a professor in a School of Education, and this video and music -- a wonderful expression of many of the problems in education. If everyone who watches this video will get on board and fight the education cuts, support our hard-working, enlightened teachers, and the many students who need and want an education, we can stop the pink slips, demand that tests be meaningful, and bring back music and the arts to schools. Two Teachers and a Microphone -- thanks for doing this video!
Why throw Pearson under the bus here? What is your implication? I would think that because of more government money going to education (for more teachers and resources if kids do well) - more teachers and administrators are buying Pearson products. If that's true than it is safe to assume that Pearson resources are good and therefore helping the students. As a teacher, I was with you about standardized testing but what does Pearson have to do with poorly thought out government plans?
So many big, powerful political factions battling over how best to run the education system...and yet the students still have no voice. As long as they're left without a vote and without their Constitutional rights, this is nothing but a debate over which master they get to obey next. Please explain why they should give a shit.
Because it is observable to a 5th grader that the system we are part of is a slavery system which eats people's minds, the educational system, while it does teach some good information, is largely a assault upon everything human, trying to produce cogs in a machine system, consumers who simply put lots of imaginary numbers into bank computers in the name of the slave owners in their eternal game of 'money and profit'. Social Insanity is not survivable.
Love this! I hope you are coming to March in DC on July 30th. We'll get you two teachers a microphone!

AWESOME. Hope this shared throughout the state of FLORIDA where school-hater-in-chief, Rick Scott, plans to 'privaTEER' all public schools.

GREAT song! Can you post the words?
Since NCLB, I wonder how much money has been made by the institutions that make and "grade" the tests, e.g. Princeton Review?
Speaking of which, go to PR's Web site and see how few of their staff and advisers are educators!
