Really every state has a nice place that they promote. Michigan has the most and because it's not on the west or east coast of the U.S. it is less known. No place in the U.S. can you live around a place as nice as MI for as cheap.
I live in CA and we have people paying $400,000 to live in a nasty, crime invested, over crowded desert. You can buy a really nice home that needs nothing in Traverse City for $150,000 no problem.
