  • i know eight bells owner

  • watching this was as horrific as watching Go For Wand break down in the BC's Distaff battling for the lead...

  • Comment removed

  • these people make me sick, Eight Belles COLLAPSED on the track and their celebrating!?!?!?

  • Where can you find a video of her death for Christ's sake! All these vids are lame 'cause they don't really show the moments after her collapse.

  • All race horses are on steriods!!! Big Brown was no different than any other juiced up horse out there.

  • What a disgusting bunch of people, except the vet, he seemed to care about the horses and not the dollars.

  • @DraculaGal31: Had Eight Belles won the Kentucky Derby, she'd have been the fourth filly to do so. Regret won in 1915, Genuine Risk won in 1980, and Winning Colors won in 1988. If you're going to correct someone else, please be sure you have your facts straight.

  • strange how this video is supposed to be about eight bells but....................

  • They probably didn't know at that time--they would have been on their way to the winner's enclosure when she went down.

  • "....they can't beat this horse."

LMFAO!! Riiiiiiight because Big Brown beat all the horses at Belmont......LMFAO!! Yes you definitely can't beat that horse. No hate here for Big Brown for he's just a horse who loves running. As for his connections.......Karma is a Big Disgusting Bitch!! LMFAO!!

  • Actually, if she had won the Derby, she would have been the THIRD filly to win, not the second.

  • I love when Dutrow says 'They can't beat this horse" to his wife. I guess if 8belles never ran hurt she would have gone by that Juiced up Dutrow special!.

  • i still say big brown was doped, which makes this more tragic, eight belles was trying to catch a horse on the juice. without the juice, the way she was closing she could have beat him!

  • @buddysmith1015 i highly doubt he was doped, that was his third kentucky win, he was an amazing horse

  • kentucky derby has somin bad about it becos barbaro hurt himself there soo did 8 belles R.I.P

  • @chesnutbrigdestables Barbaro broke down in the Preakness at Pimlico totally different track and race though just as tragic. All the triple crown races (Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes) actually have very good records when it comes to breakdowns, very few and far between. Its just this recent little spurt of breakdowns.

  • God sure does work in mysterious ways...Big Browns connections celebrate as Eight Belles gets killed...at the Belmont Big Browns connections got put back in the sewer where they belonged, their horse...just another horse. Everyone involved in horse racing, aka horrific animal abuse, will be judged by their maker...and doomed to an eternity in hell!

  • i hate the reporters they never care about the horses! R,I.P eightbells

  • well if they dont race horses things like this wont happen

  • It was an accident people get over it, yes it sucks and she was an amazing horse but accidents happen with racing, as well as in barrel racing, jumping and many others.

  • she could have lived they could have done her like they did barbaro and made her a pasture horse and brood mare but they said she would just suffer

  • Three fillies have won the Derby: Regret, Winning Colors & Gen. Risk.

  • 3 fillies have won the Derby: Regret, Winning Colors & Gen. Risk.

  • @pjmcminn and ruffian?

  • God was calling to her He thought she was ready R.I.P. Eight Bells

  • I remember watching this live, what a sad sad story. I don't care who you are, if this doesn't make you feel sad or tear up, you're not human. Just imagine being the jockey and spending so much time with an animal you become a part of and love with all your heart, then trying to sooth Eight Belles from getting up, ugh. Truly a tragic story.

  • I too think it was disgraceful that Dutrow celebrated when Eight Belles broke down and Big Brown won..when Round Pond won the 06 Distaff and Pine Island broke down, the mood in the winners circle was very somber

  • for those of you who say people in racing don't care about the horses, i invite you to spend a day on the backside of any track and see the care and dedication that goes on 24/7 to maintain these horses...yes,what happened to Eight Belles was sad, but she had an hopeless injury, and a horse can break its leg just running in a pasture, this injury is in no way unique to racing...

  • people are crying only for money ! :/ not for this horse :(

  • how could you say that?If you knew the trainer (or knew this horse or owner) you would not say that

  • fuck those rich people! All they care about is damn money, while this beautiful animal just lost its life due to this horrible injury. Yeah, congrats to Big Brown, but at least show a little sympathy!

  • Tamp, no its not.

  • So sad! She ran her heart out. Just to correct checkthemic123's information though as of present 39 fillies have run in the KD and 3 have won. Regret in 1915, Genuine Risk in 1980, and Winning Colors in 1988.

  • It's all about the money! These idiots don't give a shit about the horse. Big Browns connections were celebrating but they got a retired broke down horse a few weeks later. Got what they deserve! It's all about the money!!

  • ...grow up.

  • How could you possibly have celebrated after something that tradgic? To me it would have taken all the joy out of it knowing another horse had died. It just wouldn't have been the same. It would be incredibly bitterly sweet and tradgic but I would NOT be celebrating. I'd be giving respect to the owners of the horse that died. I don't care if it's the Kentucky Derby or a 10,000 claimer!

  • Vetesse1- That's exactly what I was thinking. Who, in their right mind would celebrate after that? Do they even care? That's so awful...

She was a beautiful horse. T.T

  • @waipolipoli

He probably didn't know yet. Not that his behavior following the Belmont did him any honor.

  • @ewd76 I agree with you I don't think him or his people knew what happen because like the reporter said, they could have just decided to keep the horse down on the ground but didn't mean (at that time) she was dead. I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt!

By the way, I thought I'd ask before I looked for a video, how was his behavior after Belmont? I remember BB was dead last but I don't remember his reaction. Did he go "El Divo"? :)

  • @bubblinbrownsugar616

He was just a sore loser.

  • @waipolipoli I think this is horrible, but they were the owners of Big Brown they have a reason to celebrate, they just won 10 million

  • @sorraialover big brown was a roid horse, everyone knows that..it was so obvious...and 10 million dollars? No

  • @waipolipoli did they know at the time?

  • I agree completely! I can't even understand how ANYONE is celebrating after such a beautiful horse was just put down. These people have no respect for the animals...only the money they win! >:(

  • That's horrible that they were celebrating while a complete tradgedy was going on. Nevermind the filly that beat the odds and came in second. Nevermind the poor filly who broke BOTH ankles. Instead they celebrate and drink their champagne without a care. Horrible, horrible, horrible men. You know when Ruffian broke down the owner of Foolish Pleasure had respect. He said 'I wanted to win but not like this'. THAT was respect. And Eight Belles should have been given the same.

  • I agree with you COMPLETELY! Those men were VERY selfish to walk away laughing and celebrating while a beautiful, young and talented horse was just put down due to 2, not on but 2 bronken ankles. Eight Belles must have been in SO much pain. RIP to her. :(

  • I know someone that had close contact, and he told me that she had broken her two front ankles, but, like EquineGirl101 said, she wanted to finish the race. It wasn't until after the race ( she got second) and when her jockey was pulling her up, that she collapsed. The thing is, though, she broke her ankles in the beginning of the race, but didn't collapse until after. We will all miss her

    Rest In Peace, Eight Belles.

  • Broke her ankles at the beginning of the race and ran a mile and a quarter on 2 broken legs? Puh-leeze. It was a terrible tragedy, but don't go bending the facts.

  • Okay, don't get me wrong, I love horses, but saying the sh** about how she was whipped to death is nothing but that: b*ll sh**. She was bred and trained to race. She had it "imprinted" in her mind to finish the race. Like everyone says, she was tough. She wanted to beat the boys, and so her jockey didn't feel a difference in her stride so he didn't pull her up. Horses are sensitive... they won't let you know if something is wrong if they really wanna win.

  • my horse spec broke his leg racing but we savved him with alot of tlc(tender lovving care) now his just a paddock horse keeping my other hoorsescompany also his like my foals mum haha he never gets ridden anymore:D

    poor 8 bellesR.I.P

  • do you use w's instead of v's?

  • ok it was really nobdys fault in a different video you can kind of see that she is switching her lead and tripped. I know everyone misses her so much but all we can do know is hope that nothing else will go wrong.

  • these people disgust me! the poor horse dies for their profit. they care nothing for life!

  • You can't save a horse that can't stand up. Horses put 60% of their body weight on their front legs, if She can't stand up she can't survive a trip to the ICU. Barbaro was lucky because he had a hind leg fracture, not a front leg.

  • thats not what i meant. i meant that they didnt care. at least show SOME remorse for the poor horse.

  • It is possible they didn't get attatched to her because they might have KNOWN that she could drop dead or break a leg or have medical problems. They're the kind of people who perhaps, don't WANT to get attatched to the horse because of the tradegy.

  • they can survive cos i bought a racer and i watched his race collapsed and broke his both ankel he lived and the vet said he could race but we chose not to just in case they collaped again now he is just a trail horse

  • to the owners .... stop rubbing your hands together and get off the phone from the insurance companies and show some respect

  • stupid bastards show no simaphy of greif for Eight Belles death and all they do is cheer? and not say to her owner im sorry for your loss?

    wow;;jerks!!

  • OMG GUYS it wasn't the jockey's fault guys, before the race she had hurt her ankles before they were on their way of healing but her OWNERS pushed n entered her in!if they waited a few weeks she would have been Perfectly fine! but they entered her in too early n the amoust of wieght put on her ankles that gave out broke n she was put down! Natural!!

  • She was completely sound when she went into that race-otherwise they would not have raced her! AND SHE WOULDNT HAVE RUN SECOND!!! HAVE COMMON SENSE!!!

  • You know what they basicly torcher them and dont even care... they just want money! Selfish

  • They do not torture them!!!!! They do all they can to make sure they are not in pain!!! These horses love to run!!! Butt out of what you don't know please.

  • This is disgusting. A animal dies after suffering what I can only imagine as horrible pain, and then these bastards are cheering away for their next win. I hate when people think using animals as entertainment is in any way decent. People are so disgusting

  • Poor little angel well she is in a better place ... i cried for 3 days i can't beleive this happend maybe they will make it so the jockeys cant kick or whip them to make them go on when they cant

  • You make me laugh. First of jockeys cant kick the horses...Do you see WHERE their feet are?! LOL. And the whips do not make the horses run faster! It keeps their concentration, and it does NOT hurt them! What happened to Eight Belles had NOTHING to do with whips or being pushed too far. It was a horrible accident, and the racing world lost a great champion. But please, dont make comments without any solid basis to go on.

  • Whips don't hurt them? Um...of course they do. Just as they would hurt a human. Maybe not a lot, because they're flexible, but there's still a certain amount of pain involved. Personally, I think the flaw was in her breeding (too much Raise a Native).

  • @Finnvarathefirst i think it was her sire,he has sired quite a few high profile breakdowns

  • hmmmmm

  • that rich people make me sick, but, is just my worthless opinion, the people is free to belive, think and do whatever they want..

  • im sorry but 38 fillies have ran in the Kentucky Derby and 3 have won. The three are Regret ...Genuine Risk and Winning Colors

  • Yah kno whats stupid the owners of Big Brown are so happy but in the mean time the owners of eight belles were so sad because their horse just died and ppl didnt even pay any attention to that

  • The reality is most people don't care what goes on in third world countries, how many babies die or whatever, These horses are worth millions of dollars. what is a dying third word kid worth to most people. I hear it all the time people complain about their tax dollars going to these countries when people here in North America need help. I guess too bad too sad eh for all the little orphans

  • fuck all that rich people

taking care of a damn horse why don't take care of poor people that w'll make a lot of sense ................. damn bastards

  • It's all about the fucking money assholes!!!!!!!

  • i don't understand why people dont care about dying babies.. damn piece of shit only cares about some horse, damn idiots

  • one more for the glue factory

  • Euthanizing is basically having to kill the horse. Its a shitty thing to do, but it had to be done ya know. Im just glad my horse isnt a race horse.

  • I HATE THIS PEOPLE

  • give me the horse! i'll eat it!

  • Jerk

  • What happens when animals are no longer needed by people

they go to the pound and get unmechanized? Dead

Stop horse racing no more horses

    stop eating meat

    no more domestic livestock

  • ok...no more domestic livestock=no more demand for corn and milk and cheese=no more jobs for farmers=more money for food and more unemployment....great idea

  • No more farmers and = no more food because morons that live in cement worlds playing video games are great idea worthless!

  • lol, do you live on a tree by chance?

  • does euthanizing basically mean being put to sleep?

  • Yes. They killer her to put and end to her pain. By the way, recovery was not feasible.

  • Well, so much ado about a horse. I'm sorry, did I miss something. What about the deaths of innocent babies being killed by the millions, because some selfish bitch wants to "dance" but not "pay the piper." I don't see an overflow of heart felt sympathy for them! You people make me sick, crying over some dumb animal. Well, maybe that's too ruf, sure the animals have a right to live and be left alone to graze and run in the wide open fields. But again, what about the babies? Does anyone care

  • This argument is illogical. You are saying that if people are outraged at the death of an animal then they are not outraged at the death of a baby? Come on! Of course people hate babies dying - no one LIKES abortion, and if they do they are sick - but this is a sad story - I think you are commenting the wrong video.

  • I care about babies... This story is about a horse though, and therefore, I commented on a horse. Go to an abortion video and maybe you might see some responses about helpless aborted babies there.

  • Sure, put the issue of murdering helpless babies, where people such as yourself, won't have to deal with it. Not on your life! It needs to be put right in your face, like that "poor horse" was, to solicit a response.

Haven't you heard the old saying, "Out of Sight, Out of Mind?" Thank God for PETA, but whose really making an intelligent argument for the babies. How long can we afford to close our eyes? The thought,"if I don't know it, I'm not responsible," has pretty much played out.

  • Ok, so it would be ok for me to go and display this "horse nonsense" as you pretty much refer to it, on an anti-abortion youtube video comment section? If you are really sincere about making a statement about abortion, may I suggest you do it in a more compassionate way? I honestly do not hear "love" in your comment at all.

  • To (you) I extend my sincerest apologies for not conveying a sense of love in my comments.

My impulsiveness got the best of me :-) I also apologize for the use of profanity in my depiction of the "lady" not wanting to "Pay the Piper." Now, back to the horse; I think it's a shame that an animals'life is needlessly lost, that to me is not nonsense.

I understand the relationship people have with their pet animals, it's priceless. I simply wanted to bring attention to this plight as well, OK?

  • Man's lust for money will always supercede humane treatment of animals. These animals are being used as slaves for sick people with gambling problems or a sense of entitlement over creatures more noble than themselves.

  • Listen I agree that they should ban whips, but in this instance the Jockey aboard Eight Belles was whipping her left side to prevent her from going into the rail. She had a tendency to drift inward and he did his job. This is a gifted young rider and he didn't do anything wrong.

  • looks like we will at least has some more glue around now ;)

  • I don't get it..why these peoples use animals for sports? Why?Torturing something that breath like us?These people love to see the animals win in each race, but they didn't know what that horses suffering from.

  • you ever use glue?

  • Idiot.

  • You r so right. the jocks so run a race then break there ankles and see how they feel.

  • Poor Horse.

So who is gonna put the oven on?

  • I love it that people CARE so much about horse. I pray that they do rewrite the rules so that whipping isn't allowed anymore.

  • What makes you think that whipping had anything to do with the tragedy?

  • agreed

  • Truly heartbreaking... :*(

  • I AM SO SAD
