These things started showing up at my house last year.I dont know where or why there here but they even get in my house.Suddenly ear wigs arent a problem.
The only way I know how to kill these things is to throw something at it so hard and fast that it doesn't have time to react. These things are all over basements and garages. Gross. One time I found one so big (it was about three inches long) I just covered it with a shoebox and was going to ask my brother to get it. I forgot about it for over a week so when I went downstairs to my basement I figured it had to have been dead by now...BUT IT WASN'T. IT JUMPED OUT FROM UNDER THE BOX!!!
I remember my first camel cricket. I thought the damn thing was a spider... I was so scared of it because I didn't know if it was poisonous or anything. Next, I found out it was a cricket and I started hunting them; picking them up and tossing them outside. As far as I know, they can't really harm you.
OMG, We have them all over the basement. I am petrified of them even though I know they cause no human harm. Exterminator coming tomorrow. I live in Pennsylvania and he said there is alot of complaints about them.. Jacked up crickets!! GROSS.. The sleep like bats.. In a row.. upside down..
These things are evil! I had them in my basement growing up in New Jersey. We were replacing the insulation in the ceiling, pulled a piece down and were covered with huge, jumping monsters!!!! They have no issue with hitching a ride if a human happens to be passing by, and they JUMP AS HIGH AS YOUR HEAD. Bug spray (even the kind specifically made for them, does nothing at all. They will outlast the cockroach. I had nightmares till I was eighteen because of these evil things!!!!
The comments here are so funny my head hurts from laughing. my girlfriend call them star war bugs. my girlfriend killed one while I was at work and having never seen one before put it in a tissue for me to see. I came home made something to eat. I went to wipe my face and there it was!!! my first meeting with a camel cricket. thanks for all the fun post.
I killed so many of these fuckers over the summer. The best way I've found is to pick them up with toilet paper or something and drop them in the toilet and then blast them with piss until they go into convulsions. Its pretty neat and sadistic.
ewww i just killed one with a shoe after spraying it with raid as it try jumping away and towards me i notice it crawling across the floor as i laid on my bed watching Urban Leged in my room witht the tv only on and no lights it moved fast towards my bed when i looked at it it stopped til i threw somethiong at it then sprayed all over the room to flush it out and then wacked it and was scared to pick it up good thing i had ruler and paper to flush it down the toilet
Camel Cricket is really really nasty. it has so many baterias do not touch it. if you step on it. you will see tons of snake-like worms coming out from its body.... do u know it eats roaches, its parents, and no lie, hamsters too. it can KILL hamsters
our basement is full of these, we probably see about 4 a day. I don't get how they keep getting in. they are so scary, we call them spider crickets. when i go in the basement i walk a mile a minute, these things like to jump.
Fuck me.I live in London and I've just got one of these in my flat. I crapped myself. She flew off across the room and now I've no idea where she is, but I'm itching and jumping all over the place. I know she can't hurt me, but I'm so creeped out I know I'm not going to sleep tonight. I'm hoping she disappears as quickly as she arrived as I won't kill her.
I remeber i caught one of these things for my bug project in 7th grade ewww it was sooo gross lol i had to freeze them and the worst part of all i had to stab it on into a foam board with a sowing needle! :D
am i the only one that is reading these comments and laughing lol i think its hilarious and yeah i ran 4rm a couple until i figured out they were harmless
those things scare the fuckin shit out of me. those things have really fast reflexes for creatures who have horrible eye site they're like almost blind and when i threw my soccer ball at it to smush it. it like moved like a mili second right before the ball hit the wall and then it started to jump at me so i just stomped the shit out of it.
i seen one in my room i live in the basement, i was on my computer and iu seen it, i thought it was a spider. i threw everything i had at it, i couldnt kill it. but the i threw a book and i smushed it. 2 hours it took for me to kill it
The best and most effective way to kill a camel cricket is to spray RAID BUG SPRAY. It will knock them out in seconds. I kill them all the time, Big or Small. But If you want to keep them away for good then you have to spray around the house once a week or a few times a week depending on the size of your home.
I hate these things too!! I always find them in my basement! I'm scared to go down there if I see one! Its really annoying cause thats where my CDs are!! I hate these things! I wish they weren't so hard to kill!! :(
I fucking hate those things! I don't see them much, only about once every two months in my house maybe, but just today I got my little bro's TOY Double-Barrel shotgun and blasted the little insect to pieces! x) I'm not kidding, the weak foam darts actually blew the cricket up. Head and Torso over here, leg over here.
ive seen about 10 in the last week on my bed, on the walls, in the bathroom, and bathtub. but we live in the country. im terrified of them because they can jump VERRRRRYYY high.
By the way, I've been keeping my bathtub drain closed, and I haven't seen once since. I also leave a nightlight in my bathroom and leave the fan on after I shower until it is completely dry, even if I have to leave, I leave it on!
omg!!! I hate those soo much! i live in the basement and the rest of my family lives in the very top floor two floors above me... and i am stuck with those things all the time!! I even sleep on the floor upstairs so i dont have to worry about them! They hop so fast too. I'm so scared!
omg... today i was in my basement and i was always too scared to go down there cause of them!! and of course this huge fckn one jumped out infront of me! my hunting dogs were with me and they couldn't even catch it!!!! So i got my shoc vac and vacuumed it lol but i was to scared to turn it off cause it might climb out and they NEVER DIE!!!
But i have this sticky mouse trap i put down there and it seemed to have caught a few and poisoned them :D
Yes, thus far glue traps seem to be the most effective solution. A year after I set the one in the video free outside, we started finding SEVERAL in the basement, which left us no alternative but the traps.
@MCF I got a graveyard of them down my basement. Used a handy old book, you have to be extreamly quick, and once they move, good luck trying to find where they are next, they ushally are only easier to find during the beggining of fall and winter, since it gets cooler down there I guess. Try to keep everything dry, cause they like moist areas...
@oreoamiga i woke up yesterday with one on my bed next to my face... I put a trap down, and didnt catch it... Now i wont go up there and I cant make vids for youtube.... or play music.... WAAaAHHHH ='(
Uggg you guys have no idea!! I live downstairs while everyone else in my family is upstairs. Unfortunetly my room and my bathroom are damp from rain and humid weather and is colder than my upstairs part. This makes it a perfect place for those giant things to come out into my bathroom.I literally hate pissing at night because of this. i want piss on them sometimes if i wasnt so scared.
Worst is its not aproblem to my family cuz they dont see it. :(
I hate these guys! Once i was afraid to go in my downstairs bathroom cus i always saw them there, but i had to go real bad and someone was using the upstairs. so i just thought, eh wat ar the odds of them being here the first time i shit here in a year. i do my busineess. i wash my hands. and as i lift the towel of the rack, THERES A FRICKING HUGE ONE OF THESE BASTARDS RIGHT THERE!!! It freaked me out so bad i would have shit my pants if i hadnt just gone. I didnt go again till we had it redone.
they are the fucking plague in my house it starts out as one they multiply rly fast and whats worse is that they try to scare u by hoping towards u as a defense mechanism which works
i just killed like 2 of these....yo say if you smash one but dont kill it,and leave and come back like 5 minutes later another one will be on it trying to help it...shits crazy they are like spiders mixed with crickets
yeah i hate them too. ever time i go to the bathrooms i have to look around the corner to see if their hiding from me. my daughter calls them Chinese bugs
You know, I think this is one species of animals (or insect) that I wouldn't mind if they went instinct. But I doubt that will ever happen. They multiply like crazy... and when I was little, one jumped on my leg... I hate those things with a passion now...
I hate these damn things! the worst part is if you try to kill it and screw up, it'll start hopping towards you! I read that they have terrible eyesight and hop toward potential attackers in attempt to scare them away.
Hate those bastards!!! Only reedeeming quality is that they are easy to kill, if you can get to them before they vanish...
God help us if they evolve a hard shell!
Wife was deathly afraid (me too in fact), so we refer to them as "hoppies". It has taken some of the sheer horor away, making it easier to kill them...hoorah!
they're in my parent's basement in D.C. but I've never seen them any other place in the world and I've lived everywhere. I can hold an african hissing roach in my hand, let tarantulas crawl on me...I'll hold any insect that won't hurt me, but I have never been more terrified than from these spider crickets. And it's more horrifying in person. Ugh god.
I've Been Seeing These In My Apartment.I First Saw One Back In Sep,It Seems I'm Seeing Them More So Now Its Nov Now I've Seen Like Two Day In My Bed Room We Live On The Bottom Floor Apartment When I Saw It I Thought It Was A Spider So I've Hit It And Step On Them Creep Looking Things.
I just saw the first one ever in my area (Vancouver) - at first I thought it was a huge spider and was freaking me out. Looking closer I was like what the hell it is more like a cricket impersonating a spider. Then it didn't scare me at all. For me its 6 legs good, 8 legs bad. Wanted to go back and catch it but it was gone... had no idea they resided in this area...
if u wanna catch them put duck tape strips in your basement where you see them and leave it for awhile and they will get caught on it . theses bugs actually eat each other so when one gets stuck other will see it stuck and hurting will go over and try to eat it and will also get stuck and so on
@danogburn The only way to rid your home of camel crickets is to clean your damn house, fix your leaky pipes, throw your mildewy clothes in the basement out, and KEEP it that way.
They are attracted to warm damp dark areas. Might wanna keep that in mind when you sleep.
@danogburn Are you kidding me? At least you didn't even almost TOUCH one! I was in my bathroom and when I was done doin' stuff I was about to turn the light off... but when I saw the cricket on the light switch I was SO close to touching it. So all I did was open the door, didn't close it though... ran In my room and did the freak-out dance
Does being afraid of these things make me less of a man? lol. I was never afraid of anytype of bug until I encountered over 40 of them surrounding me in my basement...CREEPY, YES...lol. I ran upstairs and did the freaking out/ something is on me dance thang and left my house...
@bigpimp2die4 they have huge bug controlling parasite in them....theyre devastating korea right now..If cockroaches are coffee, these crickets are t.o.p
@bigpimp2die4 Nah i'm the type of guy who could stare down people with guns or weapons but if I see bugs or spiders I run like a girl. Kind of ironic really I'm scared of things that pose no danger to me at all...
@3nderoX same here man, lol. Like i told someone earlier, I think god put them on this earth just to make women feel better about being afraid of spiders....a guy is supposed to be tough and not afraid of anything, but flying spiders.....errrr thats pushing it! lol BTW, sorry for the late reply...i dont get on here much...only if im looking for other people who have been traumatized by the same thing as me...im glad we can all have group therapy sessions on youtube over these horrid creatures.
@bigpimp2die4 i just laughed outloud "the something is on me dance thang" hahahah no i bugg out like i scream and do that dancee ewwwww i hatee them! they look like aliens! ughhhh skeevy !
@muzicluver214 yes they are extremely creepy....i mean spiders are pretty creepy already right? so god must've been like, how about i create a bug that looks like a spider and can jump at people....our god can be cruel. haha... I'm no longer living there anymore(i didn't move because of that, although im surprised I didn't pack up and leave that night) so now i just get nightmares of them...i can almost handle that.
Ahhh learn to focus so we can see it please. We missed half the video of the cool bug because you were too close and allllll out of focus. Good try. It will get easier. Those are cave crickets, a cricket-spider mix. Pretty cool and very common in the south.
Aww ... we love these dudes! I had to get over my fear of them quick after I married my husband. His basement was FULL of them. Some had antennae nearly six inches long! So I would "sproing" them by poking them with a stick. My stepsons, and later, my own daughter, thought it was funny! They are totally harmless.
I just moved to this god forsaken state , and I never seen these in my life until now. Fuck i hate bugs as it is, and what pisses me off is that no one in my home notices them except for me.They seem to only go in my room, I saw my second one today and now i cant sleep. Im definitely investing in anti camel cricket supplies right away. UGH!
ughh i know how u feel...let me know how yr supply situation works to kill them nasty things....i was just trying to kill them minutes ago but they are way to fast and beastly to kill lol
they invade my room, one jumped in my hand while i was eating and another jumped on my head, they come in septemeber and leave in december for 2 years now.. and i just found one in my garage.
little bit so I could just see that, while I was burning it, I saw pinchers or stingers, something of that matter keep moving as if to grab a hold of something, and bite, but I dont know.
Well I havent done any research about these at all, but I've had A LOT fuck with me in the past month, several have crawled on me. The most horrific time being, me on the computer looking something up, and then I feel something crawling on my arm and when I look its just sitting there... Looking at me, I flipped out. But, I just caught one, killed it, by a lighter, while in a glass, to get a better look I had squished its back end a
... they are completely harmless... they love feeding on molds and man made cloths... they dont sting or bite... though they do tend to "attack" because they are almost completely blind... they jump AT their attacker instead of AWAY
as far as i know they dont really do any damage but they are just freaky and weird there are thousands near my house i've trained my dog to attack sum. does anyone know if they bite? i've never touched the bastards.
i have waged war with that species since i was like 8 so it has been an eight year long war you need to fill that container with raid then set it on fire
I didn't know what it was, so the particular one in the video I set free in the woods about 50 feet from my house. I didn't see any more for about a year, then I've seen a few in the last few months; no idea how they get down in my basement. The other day my cat actually killed one and brought it upstairs to show us.
Oh my god. I hate these little buggers. They go in my basement too. They're fairly easy to catch if you move slow, but if you make any sudden movements, they'll jump like 5 feet.
Damn, dude; I have those things in my basement. The trick is to sneak up behind them and whack 'em with something, if they see you they jump all over hell's half acre.
whats te stinger looking thing on its back when i saw it i saw that it like bent it next to its stomach or something, so can someone tell me on my profile of what that stinger thing is
I know I'm like 9 months late on answering your question but just in case you still don't know the answer...Basically the so-called "stinger" is just a characteristic of the female crickets...The male crickets don't have that...
I tossed my shoe at one that was in my kitchen and it squealed and it scared threw shit out of me

You know, I think this is one species of animals (or insect) that I wouldn't mind if they went instinct. But I doubt that will ever happen. They multiply like crazy... and when I was little, one jumped on my leg... I hate those things with a passion now...
Wildfireregina 2 years ago
I hate these damn things! the worst part is if you try to kill it and screw up, it'll start hopping towards you! I read that they have terrible eyesight and hop toward potential attackers in attempt to scare them away.
cygnus122 3 years ago
ive got these fuckers in my basement. i go down there, kill 3, watch a movie, then turn the lights on and theres like 7 more hopping around.
StAYGoLd952 3 years ago

they just keep coming back.... no matter how many you kill, they come back......
gottadmit 3 years ago
Hate those bastards!!! Only reedeeming quality is that they are easy to kill, if you can get to them before they vanish...
God help us if they evolve a hard shell!
Wife was deathly afraid (me too in fact), so we refer to them as "hoppies". It has taken some of the sheer horor away, making it easier to kill them...hoorah!
oli5028 3 years ago
oh shit me and my girl call them "the hoppy things"
chestax 2 years ago
they're in my parent's basement in D.C. but I've never seen them any other place in the world and I've lived everywhere. I can hold an african hissing roach in my hand, let tarantulas crawl on me...I'll hold any insect that won't hurt me, but I have never been more terrified than from these spider crickets. And it's more horrifying in person. Ugh god.
SLHkitten 3 years ago
i live in maryland, i too havent seen them anywhere else.
how do i get rid of them, they're in the basement, i keep killing them, but they just seem to multiply...they scare me sometimes :(

ohwhatabutterfly 3 years ago
I just saw the first one ever in my area (Vancouver) - at first I thought it was a huge spider and was freaking me out. Looking closer I was like what the hell it is more like a cricket impersonating a spider. Then it didn't scare me at all. For me its 6 legs good, 8 legs bad. Wanted to go back and catch it but it was gone... had no idea they resided in this area...
kujibo 3 years ago
if u wanna catch them put duck tape strips in your basement where you see them and leave it for awhile and they will get caught on it . theses bugs actually eat each other so when one gets stuck other will see it stuck and hurting will go over and try to eat it and will also get stuck and so on
briscella12345 3 years ago
i screamed like a little girl when i tried to catch one of these and it jumped at me. Ive never done that before lol

danogburn 3 years ago 12
@danogburn The only way to rid your home of camel crickets is to clean your damn house, fix your leaky pipes, throw your mildewy clothes in the basement out, and KEEP it that way.
They are attracted to warm damp dark areas. Might wanna keep that in mind when you sleep.
mmmmmarcus 1 year ago
@danogburn Are you kidding me? At least you didn't even almost TOUCH one! I was in my bathroom and when I was done doin' stuff I was about to turn the light off... but when I saw the cricket on the light switch I was SO close to touching it. So all I did was open the door, didn't close it though... ran In my room and did the freak-out dance

@bigpimp2die4 Nah i'm the type of guy who could stare down people with guns or weapons but if I see bugs or spiders I run like a girl. Kind of ironic really I'm scared of things that pose no danger to me at all...
3nderoX 1 year ago
@3nderoX same here man, lol. Like i told someone earlier, I think god put them on this earth just to make women feel better about being afraid of spiders....a guy is supposed to be tough and not afraid of anything, but flying spiders.....errrr thats pushing it! lol BTW, sorry for the late reply...i dont get on here much...only if im looking for other people who have been traumatized by the same thing as me...im glad we can all have group therapy sessions on youtube over these horrid creatures.
bigpimp2die4 9 months ago
@bigpimp2die4 i just laughed outloud "the something is on me dance thang" hahahah no i bugg out like i scream and do that dancee ewwwww i hatee them! they look like aliens! ughhhh skeevy !
muzicluver214 1 year ago
@muzicluver214 yes they are extremely creepy....i mean spiders are pretty creepy already right? so god must've been like, how about i create a bug that looks like a spider and can jump at people....our god can be cruel. haha... I'm no longer living there anymore(i didn't move because of that, although im surprised I didn't pack up and leave that night) so now i just get nightmares of them...i can almost handle that.
bigpimp2die4 9 months ago

UGH!
10243406 3 years ago
ughh i know how u feel...let me know how yr supply situation works to kill them nasty things....i was just trying to kill them minutes ago but they are way to fast and beastly to kill lol

they invade my room, one jumped in my hand while i was eating and another jumped on my head, they come in septemeber and leave in december for 2 years now.. and i just found one in my garage.
xBLiTZxKRiEGx 3 years ago
little bit so I could just see that, while I was burning it, I saw pinchers or stingers, something of that matter keep moving as if to grab a hold of something, and bite, but I dont know.
Stonedmonke0056 3 years ago
Well I havent done any research about these at all, but I've had A LOT fuck with me in the past month, several have crawled on me. The most horrific time being, me on the computer looking something up, and then I feel something crawling on my arm and when I look its just sitting there... Looking at me, I flipped out. But, I just caught one, killed it, by a lighter, while in a glass, to get a better look I had squished its back end a

You got to be careful of those things. They have stringers.
Lovemeorhateme81 3 years ago
... they are completely harmless... they love feeding on molds and man made cloths... they dont sting or bite... though they do tend to "attack" because they are almost completely blind... they jump AT their attacker instead of AWAY
ESPAlexi600 3 years ago
as far as i know they dont really do any damage but they are just freaky and weird there are thousands near my house i've trained my dog to attack sum. does anyone know if they bite? i've never touched the bastards.
nickkristin 4 years ago
i have waged war with that species since i was like 8 so it has been an eight year long war you need to fill that container with raid then set it on fire
jack12555 4 years ago 5
I didn't know what it was, so the particular one in the video I set free in the woods about 50 feet from my house. I didn't see any more for about a year, then I've seen a few in the last few months; no idea how they get down in my basement. The other day my cat actually killed one and brought it upstairs to show us.
MCF 4 years ago
Oh my god. I hate these little buggers. They go in my basement too. They're fairly easy to catch if you move slow, but if you make any sudden movements, they'll jump like 5 feet.
Weird crickets...

StarfirexOne 4 years ago

63ka14tn 4 years ago
yeah they aren't fully blind, but have very bad vision and try to scare its prey by jumping towards it. VErrrry freaky, its like they're chasing you

whats te stinger looking thing on its back when i saw it i saw that it like bent it next to its stomach or something, so can someone tell me on my profile of what that stinger thing is
Grhino3321 4 years ago
I know I'm like 9 months late on answering your question but just in case you still don't know the answer...Basically the so-called "stinger" is just a characteristic of the female crickets...The male crickets don't have that...
