Hmmm, all them bushy-haired A-Rabs should take a lesson from Dr. King's and the Mahatma's strategy and overthrow their oppressors, 'cause naked violence gets you nothing but more of the same and it's what the "Evil-Ones of Arabia, Europe and North America profit from, amid the death, destruction and carnage. THEY JUST L-U-U-U-V IT!!!
OMG I have not heard this song since my childhood in the 1960's!!! I have hoped to hear it again on an oldies station but never did in four decades. As a child I thought the song was about a man who was in love and his girl broke his heart, so he went crying in the streets!! I was just a kid, I didn't know. Didn't know it was inspirational. If you can get part 2 it would be a blessing!! Thanks for posting!! ;^)
From the "Silver Fox" label, whose studio logo, curiously still adorns a bldg. in the Hunts Point district in the Bronx.
"...A bullet through your window, fired by a gun." Curious I how I missed that particular stanza when a kid. This George Perkins seems not very well known, but this produvtion of his I have always considered a classic. Much Thanks!

Yes, indeed. I had this 45-rpm single, and for the life of me, when I was 14-years old, I still don't know why I would routinely break my usual marathon record playing between the J-5, And Sly, to Otis, Pickett, and Candi Staton to play this very haunting though-for the-times, appropiate compostions. But then again, I believe I did know even then.) Might as well ask myself why I overplayed so many Curtis Mayfield and Bill Withers' "message" songs; at least 1\4 of all R&B recordings were "msgs."
I love this song sooo much. My father had this old record and from the first time and to now every time I hear it, it brings him back to me unlike anything else.
@Empyrean1401 This pleases me that you like this song. My mother wrote the lyrics way back in the early 70s. She died in 1986. She was an elementary school teacher in the hills of Virginia for 31 years.
Wish she could know the current success of this song now. Thanks.
