Great stuff. Maybe if my uilleann pipe starter set does well on eBay (I'm just not coordinated enough to play them!), I'll look into a hammered dulcimer. Inspiring video! Please keep up the good work!! (Perhaps you could shoot video in direct light Vs. indirect light under a tree?) Doesn't look too terribly more difficult to learn than my tin whistles.
Your videos are really great! Can you help me on the tuning of chinese Yangquin? I bought one but out of tune! I have tuner but I am not sure which patern I am going to follow to tune this instrument or maybe I'll just follow the tuning of the hammered dulcimer. Can you give me the patern of the left and right sides from lower string string up? Just like in guitar tuning E, B, G, D, A, E

Dizzy, I am André from Brazil. I saw the hammered dulcimer for the first time as I was in Germany and heard it in a Folksmusic Symphony, and I was so amazed I looked forward to know more about this instrument.
Sadly, I am not enough in condition to buy me (or even find here in Brazil) one.
But your work online has helped me a lot, on knowing beforehand how to play a bit, and to understand the working of it.
Now I can train it mentally, and...THANK YOU, very much!
I have wanted to learn the HD for years, but have been intimidated by it since I don't play any musical instruments. Your instructional video has taken the fear right out of me! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now I must go out and buy a dulcimer!
I just purchased a hammered dulcimer and bought a DVD that was not helpful at all. WOW!! Your lessons are absolutely fantastic! I have learned so much already, far more than I got from the DVD. You should consider making instructional DVDs for sale, just make sure they're universal(I'm in the US:-).
Thank you so much for your videos! You've taken some of the intimidation of this instrument away. And I love that I have an exercise I can go and practice!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
I´ve had my eyes on a Silkie for over six months, but now I´m starting to think I should go for one of the cheaper 12/11 packages you´re offering to begin with, just to get started. I´m impatient :)
Anyway, I think you´re doing a wonderful job (re)introducing the dulcimer to a lot of people.
I´m going to save up for one of the big models of these. I´ve been drawn to the sound of the dulcimer ever since I was little. It´s about time I learn how to play one too.
December 23, 2011, California, US - this is still a super helpful lesson :p
