Something is not right. Chernobyl disaster had only "ONE" reactor blow up. Japan has 3 so far and two of the elements are way more dangerous (cesium-137 and iodine-131). The two radioactive isotopes can mean only one thing: One or more of the reactor cores is badly damaged and at least partially melted down. The severity and outcome will solely be based on how much leaked into the air. Watch there wind pattern starting tomorrow. Bottom line is how much leaked and what direction the wind blows.

Just so you know these plants were designed by GE the Mark 1 The problem is there are forty years of spent fuel rods stored at the site. Seven containment pools 15,558 assembly each holding 63 rods equals 980,154 rods . There is a new storage plant in Aomori where these rods were to be stored in 2012. Blame big Bizz. When are people going to realize, on a mass scale, that nuke power is unnecessary. It creates more greenhouse gas emissions than it "saves" as ordinary power is needed in spades to get it working, and it kills everybody. In Australia their former company BHP (now foreign owned) has started open cut uranium mining, so that country is in trouble too, by way of winds spreading the dumped nuclear tailings (it's supposed to become the biggest mine in the world).
I hope that a catastrophe will be avoided. In Chernobyl, about 1,000,000 people were involved in dealing with the consequences. I think Japan is incapable of mobilizing so many people. It will be best if the reactors are successfully cooled down. A Chernobyl scenario is not very likely, but if the fuel burns through the reactor floors and into the soil, there will be a very serious local contamination of the ground water.

Potassium Iodide doesn't protect against radiation in general. It merely protects against a single fission byproduct "Iodine-137" which decays by half in a mere 7 days, by time it got anywhere near the US coast the I-137 would have decayed by at least half and have been rendered not-dangerous.

Look into "Liquid Metal Cooled Reactors"...
Japanese can use metal to cool their reactors, then bury them. Soviets used it successfully at Chernobyl.

I've researched the Chernobyl disaster extensively, for many years before this Fukushima crisis even started.

Something is not right. Chernobyl disaster had only "ONE" reactor blow up. Japan has 3 so far and two of the elements are way more dangerous (cesium-137 and iodine-131). The two radioactive isotopes can mean only one thing: One or more of the reactor cores is badly damaged and at least partially melted down. The severity and outcome will solely be based on how much leaked into the air. Watch there wind pattern starting tomorrow. Bottom line is how much leaked and what direction the wind blows.

Just so you know these plants were designed by GE the Mark 1 The problem is there are forty years of spent fuel rods stored at the site. Seven containment pools 15,558 assembly each holding 63 rods equals 980,154 rods . There is a new storage plant in Aomori where these rods were to be stored in 2012. Blame big Bizz. When are people going to realize, on a mass scale, that nuke power is unnecessary. It creates more greenhouse gas emissions than it "saves" as ordinary power is needed in spades to get it working, and it kills everybody. In Australia their former company BHP (now foreign owned) has started open cut uranium mining, so that country is in trouble too, by way of winds spreading the dumped nuclear tailings (it's supposed to become the biggest mine in the world).

I hope that a catastrophe will be avoided. In Chernobyl, about 1,000,000 people were involved in dealing with the consequences. I think Japan is incapable of mobilizing so many people. It will be best if the reactors are successfully cooled down. A Chernobyl scenario is not very likely, but if the fuel burns through the reactor floors and into the soil, there will be a very serious local contamination of the ground water.

This is a global concern. World economy is at stake....your daily necessities will be affected. If you think you are asfe from radiation, your pocket will be affected....of rising prices of consumer products. The buying of your money will weaken, so as as jobs will be lost. It is a dominoe effect.

@kyler565 Will you shut the hell up about Potassium IODIDE, the only people who should even consider ingesting such a thing are Japanese and Western Russians.
Potassium Iodide doesn't protect against radiation in general. It merely protects against a single fission byproduct "Iodine-137" which decays by half in a mere 7 days, by time it got anywhere near the US coast the I-137 would have decayed by at least half and have been rendered not-dangerous.
Do some research before claiming shit.
