Seems that may work but still maybe a very high + or - percentage. There are other factors that I am "not sure" should be included in the unemployment figures, one being all the people who work illegally (illegal immigrants) we cant forget they have a pretty good piece of the employment demographic (farming & construction.) The other is what about all those people who get paid cash and evade paying taxes.
The reason why I "maybe" feel they need to be included (but would be impossible to do so) is they do contribute many of those illegally earned dollars back into the economy ( rent, food, realestate, auto etc. These illegal dollars are higher then many people think but I guess if we include illegals we would also have to include drug dealers although I doubt they are out of work lol.

I would love to see an honest unemployment number. If a full timer is reduced to a part timer that is still considered full employment. If people completely leave the workforce and aren't looking then they aren't unemployed.

I agree... Unemployment numbers traditionally have never been accurate. I always have said what about the people who cant find a job and then their unemployment runs out. The people who are dropped from the fund and didn't find a job never get included in the unemployment census. Its a very inaccurate calculation with to much room for error which seems to be more full of lies then truth.

Who is going to crash first - Europe or USA?
Italy and Greece can't auction any more bonds, Spain's bond got downgraded to 'junk' today, Baltics have been rioting for months now, Ireland is broke and about 2 steps from being Iceland, Latvian's attacking gov buildings, rioting in Lithuania, etc.
All that and they still don't have a gas supply flowing yet. Russia could probably wait another week and lose 5% more on the rubble.

very very true. Its all a matter of the big companies having huge marketing power and manipulating people into believe they need something. Need - basic human living tools (food, water). Want - a desire for the needs (I want mcdonalds). demand - the buying power to get your want. They make us believe we want an unhealthy piece of shit burger, when in reality we could live off nuts, water, and fruit for our whole lives and be much happier than with all this processed, unhealthy bullshit!

It is an important cleansing.

Back in the Roman Empire people were still self sufficient. We have anything we want with one swipe of a debit card now. We have 2 days worth of food in our supermarket shelves. If the banks shut the ABMs down the USA would grind to a halt.
Our supply chains are so global now over half of our apples come in from China.
If you look at a crisis like Katrina - absolutely horrific in days. Emergency forces fly in from everywhere. What happens when 5-10 cities are disaster zones?

The best indicator is to take the number of people who are old enough to work and the number of people who are employed.
Out of that, you begin to introduce criteria like "looking for a job: real or not?" etc... which are very, very subjective.

There are other factors that I am "not sure" should be included in the unemployment figures, one being all the people who work illegally (illegal immigrants) we cant forget they have a pretty good piece of the employment demographic (farming & construction.) The reason why I "maybe" feel they need to be included (but would be impossible to do so) is they do contribute many of those illegally earned dollars back into the economy ( rent, food, realestate, auto etc. These illegal dollars are higher then many people think but I guess if we include illegals we would also have to include drug dealers although I doubt they are out of work lol.

The list was about 13 different companies from Mervins and many others, also Hertz Rent a car is laying off 4000 people along with Astra Zenica pharmaceuticals. Total amount of jobs lost today was 55 THOUSAND and in the mix some 13 companies closed their doors for good. Bank of America and City just got another 21 billion from the feds.

I would love to see an honest unemployment number. If a full timer is reduced to a part timer that is still considered full employment. If people completely leave the workforce and aren't looking then they aren't unemployed.
The hit to the tax revenue this year is going to be huge. I guess they just print more money, but if they really had to cover a huge incoming budget deficit it would be awful.

I agree... Unemployment numbers traditionally have never been accurate. I always have said what about the people who cant find a job and then their unemployment runs out. The people who are dropped from the fund and didn't find a job never get included in the unemployment census. Its a very inaccurate calculation with to much room for error which seems to be more full of lies then truth.

Personal report from Central Illinois:
gas prices and housing prices are down, reflecting the massive deflation in most kinds of asset classes.
However, some things extraordinarily expensive. Like home heating. Global warming is turning into a big farce, as temperatures are the coldest I've ever seen them (and I'm in my late 20's--maybe an oldster can better attest). Food prices are also up.
Also, local/state government are just as fuct as national government.
How about other states?

Well, in the past few weeks it has gone back up a bit, but still much lower than it was last year.
When I was in Chicago it was 4 bucks a gallon!
I might be due to refinery problems. The environmental lobby and NIMBY lobby keeps them from building new ones. Also, heavy regulation of refinement cuts out anybody who wants to compete, reducing the desire to expand.
That's how you can have low oil prices but expensive gas.

Remember John Anderson back in the 70's suggested this concept in the presidential primary race? Governments are always seeking painless taxation (well, THEY think it will be less obvious).

Hi MOT, Your comment on a "Crisis before or after" inauguration day most likely will happen for a few reasons I rather not get into now, however there is some irony that goes along with it and that is the statement from Joe Biden claiming Al Queda/terrorist will no doubt test Obama if he gets in. Looks like another U.S. planned attack on its own soil to pump more fear into the people. Biden's comment sounded suspicious to me. Sounds like Biden has prior knowledge of the next staged attack.

I asked the lady at the cash register why it was called "Wild Oats" and not "Whole Foods Market"? She said they hadn't had time to change the sign yet. I said "oh, okay". We have a store here in the metro area of Birmingham, Al. that sells whole foods. My daughters and I have been eating food prepared from scratch and since we have ate much healthier, and have loss weight(me)! We are eating fresh fruit and plan on raising our own fresh fruit, will be planting another garden this spring. Keep on Big Bro.!

Larry, always a character, makes a compelling case. Does any know or care about where any of this bail-out cash is going? Not really. So, why shouldn't porn get their slice? And thank you for your uplifting attitude in discussing all of this. I am uplifted by gloom and doom news because I believe it brings the Rapture closer and closer. If we do have to suffer before the rapture, it won't be for long. It can't be compared to the eternity we will experience with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Right on MOT!! More and more people have to start getting together from shared online discussion groups, cooperative and collaborative teaching/learning, sharing, networking, preparing and growing. There is so much that needs to be kneaded to be there in the future, the future has already begun from the mistakes of fools from the past.
