  • Albini is the Chuck Norris of guitar noise.

  • MY BLACK ASS!!

  • Simon Cowell is good on the old guitar aint he!!

  • Decent band. His guitar tone is what sucks!

  • @dogfart187 His guitar tone "Excellent Italian Greyhound" is awesome. I think it's the shitty camera mic that make it sounds like ass.

  • Comment removed

  • His jeans are torn because he has been there. And he has done that. He's got all the fucking t-shirts.

  • @J3000269 Couldn't he sell some of those T-shirts for a new pair of pants?

  • @TheUnderRage I guess that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion. But i'm willing to bet that Mr. Albini here has made more money on his music, and produced more amazing albums than you ever will.

You also have to think too, the quality of music is not always based on its listenability, though i do find shellac very listenable, but sometimes on its content. And shellac has got some lovely content.

  • If you say Shellac sucks you are a late comer who doesn't realize what your favorite bands influences are. Welcome to good music.....

  • @william979 He's 49.

  • grandi

  • what´s his guitar?

  • @papanimes It's a Travis Bean TB500. Magnolia body with alluminum neck, very rare guitar.

  • @circacheese Wow, I always wondered that.

  • THESE GUYS ARE BADASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what song is this?

    I love tehh guitar

  • @DanieLatzanich my black ass----- off their 1994 album at sonic park......... almost, if not perfection!!!!

  • When steve says that comeback and it pans to trainer you see that grin on todds face. I had the same grin on my face after steve said that. I think people heckle steve just to test his amazing spontaneity skills. I dont think you go to a shellac show to be an asshole. Its nothing personal. Its just keeping steve on his toes and making TT smile. Bob on the other hand gets more physical. If you piss bob off you better get the fuck out of there.

  • steve is definatly mocking the guy by doing the "mom" thing if you ask me. any idiot that would go to a show just to heckle would be the exact person to pull your mom jokes out cause he's too damn dumb to think of a better insult. and i ironically don't get why people here don't get the joke.. the punchline, the guys mom is so busy sucking everyone else that steve has to suck himself. (literally, not his music.)

  • does any one know where a decent tab of this song is

  • god that your mom shit , im not sure if thats owned at all or he just owned himself i like his music though

  • epic riff is epic.

  • Comment removed

  • This song genuinely excites me and makes me reach straight for a guitar.

  • but seriously they do suck

  • @james163163 Really, they do... They're terrible. That shit hurts the ears.

  • I do enjoy a good shellacing!

  • "straight to the mom. went straight there!"

  • 65 people prefer producers to engineers.

  • I saw Shellac on New Years Day this year and Bob still was wearing the same t-shirt.Does he own any others?

  • i dunt matter weather you like it or not..weather you are of the opinion it is shit or the shit..you will realise one day or you wont..so what..

  • Albini is such a nerd but shellac are a great band

  • awesome playing, Albini is the man and that heckler is a no-talent cocksucker

  • @quicklern818 what are you talking about? that heckler was actually stevie wonder, and his moms been dead for 30 years so the jokes on albini. show some respect

  • Comment removed

  • @quicklern818 stevie wonder is a child fucker, read that on wikipedia

  • needs some new jeans

  • ummmmm.... ok. this is the first time ive ever commented on anything on youtube.. but for some reason there was a link on my facebook... so i watched... do these guys realise that they suck???

  • @MrBennytee84 Well that was a nice first comment.

  • @MrBennytee84 I am sure they do.

  • Too bad their music is shit.

  • This song reminds me of some early Helmet stuff

  • Albini will always be and has always been better than any of you at simply being fucking great altogether. Accept this.

  • @MrIggyIck You might want to step away from his dick.

  • @MrIggyIck already have, it's the basis for my existence.

  • Я такой хуйни лет 20 не слышал! УжосНах!

  • I think what you guys are really trying to say is that although lossless means less loss, that which is lost in the lossless process is not exactly lost, but merely compressed into a lossless/lost/losable file thingy, in other words, lossless losses lose less than the unlossless ones, that is unless something is lost. I hope I didn't lose anybody there.

  • Big Black... On vinyl. No compression, a needle and some noise.

  • Hahaha, faggots.

  • Is he even singing during the song, or is there a "lossless" track playing?

  • u people are crazy, this is good driving music + i like the way he moves on a stage, kinda mechanicy, makes me think of mr. gaga hahahaha

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahafuckhahahahahahahahahahahahah

  • Man not to sound like a dick but my comment was just a poor attempt at humor, stop reading into it so much.

  • Come baby Asian ladies lushfmlk.info

  • If I was a heckler at his show I would have shouted

"Nice pants, I can see you spend alot of time on your knees!"

  • every big thing i ever see about shellac is either at shibuya or atp! whuzzup withat?

is this gig really the awesomest they ever put on?

  • 57 people use Pro Tools

  • @KyleBrock13 I love Steve Albini, everything he ever did. Been listening since 91. I dont use pro tools, but would if I had it just to record myself. What is wrong with it, I mean your comment is pretty against it.

  • Comment removed

  • @KyleBrock13 There's nothing wrong with ProTools or digital recording. Quite frankly, I have heard better ProTools recordings than what comes out of Steve's studio. For someone who hates reverb, he sure does ham up the drums with a lot of ambient (and digital delay enhanced) room ambiance. For some applications, like a particular indie rock sound (Big Black influenced) it works. He's done some bad sounding records -- American Don sounds bad. Al Sutton always did a better job with Don Cab.

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy The reason why American Don doesn't sound good is that Steve doesn't do well with bands that have complicated mixes. Sure, for Shellac or some 3-4 piece band, those room-thumping drums and bright guitars sound pretty good. But I've notice the more stuff in the mix, the more cloudy and the harder it is to hear each individual instrument. Perhaps his disdain for dynamic compression doesn't help.I've notice the more complicated the mix, the more compression is used for audibility

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy Actually, you are wrong and your ignorance of digital audio is appalling, or to you "Appling" . Lossless is a marketing term. Any time you compress data, you COMPROMISE data. 44.1kHz 16bit, IS full quality. Even if you record at 96kHz 24bit, both, if you are very lucky, get converted to 320kbps. A fraction of file size. Can you still defend that a 3 MB file is as sonically pure as your HD 300MB file.... You "loss" your argument.

  • @bo0tsy1 I don't even know why I am replying to this. Lossless means that the digital compression algorithm does not lose data. If you zip a binary file and unzip it, you have the same file. You need to go to school or read a book and learn the difference between "lossy" and "lossless" compression. Like most EAR fanboys, you don't really know much about digital audio. When you decompress and lossless file, it is 100% identical to the original, retard. Learn something about computer science...

  • @bo0tsy1 It is clear that you have confused mp3 or AAC with lossless. MP3 is lossy. AAC is lossy. Apples Lossless is lossless -- if you encode a CD in Apple Lossless format, it is IDENTICAL to the CD. The savings in data size is not huge at all. At best, all a lossless encoder can do is to symbolize redundant patterns. Look into Apple lossless, Winzip, tar, and all other forms of lossless compression. How can you zip a file and have the same file come back? Lossless compression, asshole...

  • @bo0tsy1 3MB file as sonically pure as a 300MB one? Uh, thats LOSSY compression. You seem to think everything is mp3 or AAC. There are TONS of digital compression encoders and codecs. Beyond what you seem to be aware of -- mp3 and aac, there's FLAC (lossless), OGG, apple lossless. Windows WMA also has a lossless mode. If there is no such thing as lossless compression, how the fuck does zip, tar, or other archiving work? Magic? No, by symbolizing redundant patterns which can be reconstructed.

  • @bo0tsy1 All you demonstrate is your complete and utter ignorance of the subject. Go back to your fucking record player, idiot loser.

  • @bo0tsy1 talking to an Albini/EAR fanboy about digital recording is like talking to a Catholic Priest about pussy. Ha ha ha! Yeah, I never said a 3MB version of a 300MB file will sound the same. You need to learn the difference between lossy and lossless. Lossless is the same type of algorithm as zip and tar. You don't see huge reductions in file size, maybe 10-15%, but the files are identical to the uncompressed. Good luck finding a clit someday, clueless ninny...

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy So you HAVE bought into marketing..... I've never heard a good sounding Zip Or Tar file..... To be honest, I don't think they are audio.... I can has the TAR/ZIP?

  • @bo0tsy1 He never claimed they were audio. He was explaining how lossless compression works. It's the same way zip and tar files. same type of algorithm. no data is lost when you compress files in a zip file.

no data is lost in lossless compression. kablam. simple. simple simple simple.

  • @BlackHawk2029 What you meant to say was nossy, or no loss. Lossless, means less loss....Lossy is definately worse. But, MP3's use both lossless and lossy.....fyi.

  • @BlackHawk2029 What you meant to say was nossy, or no loss. Lossless, means less loss....Lossy is definitely worse. But, MP3's use both lossless and lossy.....fyi.

  • @bo0tsy1

You're talking bollocks. Lossless has no loss. BlackHawk is correct, you however, are not.

  • @ThingOfDoom Actually, the format is both LOSSY and LOSSLESS... Sorry... Data confirms I'm half right and a Albini is a HALFWIT, for crap music and crap comeback. Really the momma jokes only work for the other half....

  • @bo0tsy1 No it isn't if you're going to make out you know something about a subject you should actually know your stuff.

Feel free to google lossless and lossy, you need to. Lossless cannot be lossy, they are opposites. A lossless codec loses nothing, even under compression, look at PNG for pictures, RAR for data and ALAC and FLAC for music, they do not lose data, even when compressed. Lossy formats do.

  • @KyleBrock13 ahhh Pro Fools!!! I use Ubuntu/Ardour..

  • @analyzingfunny what kind of tape machine is that? :P

  • @naomifullbloom93 Oh, Ubuntu is an operating system, Ardour replaces ProFools. And I do have a tape recorder though. And it could even makes these guys sound ...ok.....

  • @analyzingfunny

was just messing with you. :P

said that because the first comment was in reference to how Steve hates any kind of digital recording (such as Pro Tools)

and yes, I know what Ubuntu and Ardour are. I prefer Fedora, and there's many other DAWS I'd rather use than Ardour - PT being one of them.

  • Dude Looks Like A Monkey On Crack With a Mental Disability Trying to play the Guitar... and He Plays The Same Riff Over and Over... Lame Azz

  • @ManGzoN Shellac are only popular because of Steve's notoriety and they did have one good record (At Action Park). But since Steve is the pope of the Chicago indie scene, he can fart in a bag and people will line up to listen to it. People like bootsy are his devout followers -- so devout that facts no longer have any bearing. It's all about following the leader.

  • todd trainer is fukcing awesome!

  • Action park is nothing less than a perfect album.

  • straight to the mum jokes. perfect

  • That guy got FUCKED.

I'd like to know exactly what Steve was doing at the start there, though.

  • i love the sound of that guitar

  • i like mx80 too

  • The man with the toys.

  • man i want an amp with one knob on it. thats tone quality right there

  • STeve's shirt is the coolest ever!!

  • BIG BLAAAACK!!!!!!!!!

  • steve looks like a gerbil that could slice your shit up real quick.

  • A gerbil with a knife taped to it's back.

  • Man i just wanted to scream some lyrics over those riffs!! cooool band+perfect heckle response :)

  • @jovanflan wow you really are a fagot. i bet you were the asswipe heckler in the video eh?

  • haha that was a good one

  • Todd Trainer did a little project called "Brick Layer Cake"....saw them and SHELLAC in Brisbane and it was cooler than you bitches would know!

  • this has gotta be the goofiest most kickass band ever. MY BLACK ASSSSS

  • @steeliesazoo2007 That's kind of the point, honestly. And this music is awesome.

  • uhhhhhh mom jokes...oh hohoho

  • I really like how steve, bob and tod are always all in a line, as opposed to relegating the drummer to the back of the stage.

  • whut th heck? this still kinda sounds like big black. no roland thos. ok i better check out more of steves recenter stuff since the bigblack breakup, cuzz i havent listened to any of his stuff since that year. is steve "downgrading" his sound deliberately in his studio? good to see he's using analog.

  • @pamaspamas wow yer missing out. at action park is one the greatest albums of all time (IMP)

  • @rappinneallyp huh ok i'll go down to Woolworth's and see if they have one on 8-Track cartridge in the discount bin...

  • I love that guitar tone.

  • Jesus, you lot need to stop taking life so serious

  • wow, some people here spend a bit too much time on the internet, if you ask me. But hey, who am i to judge?...

  • You got that right.

  • @django2605 you just fucking did so stfu!

  • @django2605 To answer you're question: you are an observant person.

  • The other great thing is, once you have your CDs ripped, you can actually FIND THEM. I have always had a helluva time trying to find CDs and I organize them, and they fall out of order. Then I spend an hour trying to find PFMs "Per Un Amico". Fuck that. iTunes, iPod, playlists... it's all good. That 5 minute investment in ripping a CD will save you hours of frustration down the road. As for liner notes, you already know Steve's religion, and all this shit is online. Save it as web archives...

  • wow, maybe you should consider getting off the internet for a couple hours a day....

  • @jonvanflan dude u have way too much time on ur hands WOW

  • i find having a physical copy of the music much more fulfilling than using itunes and all the bs. its like masturbating to porn, and having sex. sure beating off gets the job done, but i would rather have a real woman here.

  • Oh, and he has some theory that digital audio formats will shift and the evil corporations will do it on purpose in order to make you buy new music. Well, they can try, but open source geeks have already been quite successful at reverse engineering encoding schemes, even Apple Lossless (dbPowerAmp has a reverse engineered implementation). So yeah, if Apple happens to go under some day (they're actually very good about migrating people's old shit to new standards) some open source geek will do it

  • And the sad truth is, going through lots of old skool 12-bit digital delays and signal processors ain't gonna sound too good. This is why even your average Björn Jånsen recording death metal in Sweden on a Mac produces better and more cost effective results than Steve. This is why the major label found In Utero unlistenable. Most consumers like clean and clear audio, and not gimmicks, hype, and artsy fartsy techniques. True, people do use way too much program compression, but so does Steve.

  • @jonvanflan As an electronic musician, I'd be the last person to knock digital recording as such, but Albini's techniques sound much better for noise rock, or even the dark, twisted indie folk type artists he sometimes records. the sound has edges and a sense of space.

  • @OutisPan you can totally get that feel with electronic music though. People just don't try hard enough

  • I have it on good authority that Steve just isn't good with computers. He's sort of like John McCain in that respect. Doesn't like email. He does blog, but I think he gets one of his interns to transcribe it off an old analog dictaphone. He's not really opposed to digital, because he does use digital delays for correcting bad timing on parts and expanding the "distance" of ambient mics. So really, quite a bit of his signal goes through digital gear. He just doesn't like computers.

  • @jonvanflan Most death metal recordings these days sound flat , overproduced, and sanded down to a impersonal sheen, including the Swedish ones. Opeth's recent albums sound like shit, even on vinyl. Whatever happened to the Tomas Skogsberg/Sunlight Studios sound that kicked so much ass back in the day?

  • Never mind his guitar set up, I was more concerned that Steve now appears to be sporting the same middleage flat top as Simon Cowell.

  • How does he get that noise from his guitar?

  • I think he plays a les paul through a marshall stack, although being one of the most respected and requested sound engineers on the planet, he may have a custom setup. I think the sound mainly come through his belt guitar-strap (I have read he plays w/ a steel pick tho').

  • @hatchetjob1 nope. check out the amp. I've seen 'em 10 years ago, and they have the same home-made amps. I don't know who makes them but only überknobs can buy them. Everything with Albini is about his exclusive audio shit that sounds so much better than everyone else's shit. It's an attempt at cornering a market with a little bit of intellectual dishonesty. Yeah, 10-20 years ago, digital recording sucked but 99% of people can't tell the difference. It's more of a status symbol or brand.

  • You are dumb. Or to serious for your own good, if you could not tell by my comment that it was a joke. Especially the part where I said I think the sound mainly comes from his belt guitar strap setup.

  • @FerretWeed He strums the strings. You do know that Steve Albini invented the mid range frequency and ambience. Before that, we couldn't even talk to each other, because sound could not move in air.

  • In fact, I am in the process of digitizing all of my music and selling off the CDs I don't want, which would include my Shellac collection. Lemme know if you're interested. One of Steve's beefs about CDs is that they don't last as long as vinyl. I suggest ripping CDs to Apple Lossless format and backing up your whole collection a few times on dual layer DVD. You can fit about 24 CDs with lossless compression on one dual layer DVD. Fuck, make 10 copies and put some of 'em in a safe deposit box.

  • Comment removed

  • @jonvanflan Well, YOU and Steve are idiots. If it's "lossless" they are compressed, not CD quality. Thats Sony's marketing scheme. You are buying into a fantasy. CD's are 44.1 Khz/16bit.

As for TRUE "DVD" quality, It's 96KHz, 24bit.

The human ear cannot, apart from any genetic engineering/manipulation/fantasy, hear 48000Hz. We can only "hear" 20Hz-20KHz, and we can only hear that when we are born, AND, Half the time....

If it was "lossless", you wouldn't mention compression. So you fail.

  • @bo0tsy1 You're completely wrong and speak volumes of your ignorance of computer science. First, it's APPLE's lossless technology. Lossless compression does not reduce quality -- it's the same kind of technology as ZIP for compressing files. When you ZIP a file, you get the same file back. It's called lossless. Anyway, you dig into any EAR-fan-boy's knowledge of digital, and quickly find it has been corrupted by some Chicago sociopaths who want to dominate a recording scene by misleading people.

  • @SteveAlbinisPussy Lossless compression DOES NOT produce very small reductions in file size. You maybe get a file that is 15-20% smaller than the original 16/44 file. Why? Because Lossless doesn't do the acoustic shuffling, high end truncation, or anything of the sort. Lossless compression looks for patterns in the binary data, and encodes redundant patterns in a symbolic way that can be reproduced later. Just like a Zip or Tar archive, you get the same exact file back when it's decompressed.

  • @jonvanflan has verbal diarrhea.

  • did he say ' coz your mums busy?'

  • jep

  • buy the vinyl instead and you will get the CD for free!

  • shit..does it matter which one? i bought 2 of the latest ones. I don't have 1000 hurts nor do i have in action park. but thanks for the heads up.

  • that's right

they put a CD into the packing of the LP :D

  • @justiceistobe Just bit torrent this shit and get it for free. If you stick it to the man that sticks it to the man (and sometimes the band) you're holier than the Pope and the Dalai Lama's butt baby. I also heard T&G went under, but I'm sure there's plenty of unsold and brand new Shellac records and reel-to-reel tapes out there. Oh and CDs, but they probably don't sell too many of those inferior pieces of shit. I need my snap-crackle-n'-pop man -- vinyl is wear it's at. Lasts forever!

  • @justiceistobe If you listen to the first digitally recorded album (Ry Cooder's "Bop Till You Drop") you wouldn't even know it is digital. Old digital recording did suffer from underlying problems with the math -- even changing levels would recalculate the data with imprecise floating point calculations. Now the math is 128-bit and editing is non-destructive. You'd be an idiot not to record digitally and you can't tell me a Telarc CD from the 80's doesn't sound better than Shellac on vinyl.

  • FUCK YEAH!! I am going out to get a Cd of this band now! You all can do the same if you haven't already.

  • The heckler should have said ''Can't you afford a new pair of jeans, Mr Egon Speng-sorry, Steve Albini?''

Cos homeboy here looks like a tramp.

  • Why would that looser buy a ticket to a show with a band he hates? Who's the one who really sucks?

  • its at a festival, he could be there for the other bands, or he is just having a bit of fun.

  • is that russell brand on the drums?

  • Comment removed

  • no, Todd Trainer on drums outta Minn, MN. ala Brick Layer Cake.

  • Great clip, cheers. Not long back from the latest ATP and Shellac's 2 shows were fantastic, as you'd expect.

  • Awesome. Crushing. Inspiring.

  • @j11993 Who gives a fuck, the music is awesome.

  • no, no its not thats why there not famous. awsome music people have herd of nobody is herd of this guy obviously an over exageration but u get the jist of it

  • steve albini produced nirvana...i presume youve heard of them.

  • scott boras is the agent of A-rod the highest payed baseball player ever. i bet you know a-rod i bet u didnt no hes agent so why the fuck would any one no nirvanas producer especially if they hate the music as much as i do

  • i dont follow baseball at all ...but thanks for the info....the point i was making is that you may not have heard of albini directly but you will be aware of his influence.

  • how u said that made it seem like ur trying to imply that one should no this guy because of the band i was just giving an example on how that wouldnt be the case in most situations

  • @j11993

so wait... you SERIOUSLY have never heard of nirvana? come on man! have you been living under a rock for the past 20 years?

  • man of coarse ive herd of nirvana the guy said this guy is the producer i simply said one prolly woundt no a producer of a band especially if they didnt like the band in the first place

  • @j11993

and then you went on to say that the band sucks because not that many people have heard of them completely disregarding both subjectivity and that the band isn't part of a popular genre of music. grow up.

  • what the fuck are u talking about. i said i didnt like the band nothing more their popular and make alot of money. u must be retarted or on some serious drugs...grow up? lmao what the fuck is wrong with you

  • @j11993

dude don't lie when the evidence against you is on the same bloody url. you just came on here and started talking shit about the band because you don't like it.

protip: just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's bad.

this conversation is over now, take your stupid narcissistic self somewhere else. noone wants to see two stupid fags arguing over stupid shit when they just want to see the band play.

  • are u fucking dumb u just prooved my point.i just finished saying i dont like the band but they are popular.ur just so god damn thickheaded u cant comprehend what i wrote, and i was not talking shit about this band i was talking shit about one dude like fuck off u fucking monkey like fucken look at everything i wrote tell me where i was making fun of this band, fuck u

  • you're retarded, stfu

  • Comment removed

  • Zelma3269 i dont think anyone here gives a shit

  • shellac for ever

  • the drummer looks like a fucking rat

  • Oh yeah because looks are soooo important in music

  • @GoodEyeSniper2113 Todd Trainer the drummer did some serious shite as Brick Layer Cake....pity your head is up your butt and not into serious muzak!
