  • Is that conductive sowing thread? iv never seen that before

  • your intro = shit

  • @0billgeld0 You're brains = Dog shit

  • i would scream UFO if i saw those lights at the road when i was driving :o

  • прикольно

  • Cool project!

By the way, if you are concerned about the safety of your LiPo battery,

there are LiPo safety bags on the market that even endure an explosion of the battery. It's purpose is actually only for charging and storage but I guess, it's also no bad idea for the battery in operation. At least it would let me sleep better (so in my projects I'm already tinkering with these bags).

  • Wow! That was a very nice tutorial. Congrats! I wished, I could handle a needle like you :)

  • where did you get that power supply for the lily pad? I cant find one online...

  • I've been thinking about trying arduino but was a little worried it might be difficult too learn. But your video was a little more reassuring. The programming side looks pretty easy (at least starting out with basic stuff). I think I'll order the board and give it a try. Thanks.

  • stupendous, brilliantly explained - absolutely superb video. wow!

  • PS... Becky can you teach my girlfriend how to use microcontrollers... either that, or you can marry me.

  • Not a particularly good use for arrays in my opinion. Would have been simpler to use two variables counting (6 apart), or arithmetic shift port pins. Not that I'm complaining... It's always ok to do cockadoodie, as long you're happy with it, and it works :)

  • @fronkenpoop - I read your comment right as I heard her "trap for light -1" hack. Just use modulo (% operator) to safely wrap integer values to a range. In any case, awesome video, awesome project. I <3 <3 <3 Make & Craft!

  • @mutorsound

Modulo... OMG. It's a by-product of a division operation that's comparatively intense from a raw processing perspective, and in one sense probably worse than using arrays in my opinion. Whatever happened to people thinking about efficiency as opposed to how few instructions in which something can be done. Ah well, as I said before, if it works and you're happy with it... Great.

  • Amazing! Keep up the good work!

If I learned C++, how hard is it to migrate to C?

  • if you ended up a proffeser i wouldnt be supprised your really smart. Keep the great stuff coming.

  • Wow, cool project.......

  • cool project. I'm starting with arduino and this tutorial has been very helpful. thanks!!

  • Use magnets instead of velcro, neo magnets

  • If you use magnets you could accidently mess up an electronic item if you put it in the bag

Like Ipods, Nintendo DS's you can screw up the screens if you get a magnet too close to them

So the velcro is actually a good alternative for a backpack, but you should at least get velcro that somewhat matches your backpack so its not so obvious

  • lol I read 'Arduino Bike Bitch'

  • Is there any reason why resistors were not used with the LEDs?

  • I think the LilyPad runs on 3.3 volts.

  • @blueclxwn

because as she said, the conductive wire as some resistance...

  • i like this a the song at the end was good

  • Oye!!...Estupendo, te quedo muy bien la explicación, me gustaría aprender a colocar este arduino en mi ropa y colocarle sensores o una malla electrica para defensa personal.

  • thx for sharing!

  • cool a clever chick

    very good combo

  • haha yeah if I was a TSA guy with a typical TSA training, if I saw anything even slightly like that device on someone trying to get on a plane, I'd slap the cuffs on her so fast.

  • is the intro supposed to be like Mythbusters?

  • Combining sewing and micro controllers - I did not see this coming. Congrats on a fantastic project and cool vid!

  • You're fantastic!

  • Your superficiality is staggering. She isn't THAT bad looking at all, plus she is obviously intelligent enough to make things like this and doesn't spend her time posting asinine comments on YouTube like you've chosen to do. One day a girl like this is going to defenestrate you and we shall all laugh.

  • Word! Thanks, dude.

  • Really cool and informative video. Thanks.

  • Expensive for a safety bicycle light.

  • Great instructional video...sigh...just wish I could actually sew...never learned how to sew, so guess I'm screwed in doing this...

Keep up the great work, sugar..!

  • great work but i want to know from where you bought the charging circuit with the charger itself

  • It's for safety? i think it's for fun...

  • this is great. i love that you made lilypad tutorials.

  • so it is conductive thread

  • What kind of programming language is that?

  • Arduino is actually a kind of wrapper around a subset of C.

  • Comment removed

  • basic

  • nice, how much are those lithium batteries though?

  • cool will try

  • YAY! Someone who isn't Kip!

  • Cool:) Keep up the good work

  • I didn't even know there was such a thing as conductive velcro! ;-)

  • Me neither, wow the possibilities.

    And the thread also, wow.

  • Then you can make a scale-like system to know if your messenger bag is too heavy to carry. A sort of warning when you carry a lot of things.

  • hmmm...

doesn't when it is heavy tell you that????

  • The heavier it is, more leds light up.

  • Very cool. I wonder if you could take it a step further and use EL wire instead of the LED's? I think it would ROCK to sew turn signals right into my motorcycle jacket!!!

And, to all you jerks out there: I think she's rather pretty :) I have a total thing for girls with brains...and cute to go with.

Ya know, if you're ever in Mesa, AZ there's this technical theater designer who wouldn't mind taking you out for a coffee or somethin'.... just saying.....

  • Thanks, but I'm taken! I actually live in Tempe, coincidentally.

  • Thank god...A YouTube comment that doesn't compare every girl to some Photoshopped supermodel. I think a lot of you who have posted comments like 'She's ugly!', etc need to fucking wake up to reality. Oh wait, I totally forgot what website I'm on...

I totally agree with you neothespian... Intelligence = attractive and about 10,000x more useful.

As for you, Becky, keep up the good work! Seriously, ignore most of the people on YouTube. They're all stoned high school kids.

  • OoO that was interesting hahaha.. but yeah i enjoyed this video.. fun, entertaining, what more could i ask for. hehe :]

  • there looks like a lot of applications you could substitute IE: Christmas lights or specialty lighting

  • Very creative; hope you do well with the maker fair.

  • Board $50, thread $40..I don't think so !!

  • Have you seen that the lower right led is flashing twice in the round cycle? Is that a code error or a circuit error?

Cool project! I like a lot the lilypad projects!

  • thet looks like a fucking bomb

  • LOL

  • LOL

  • well if it is shes going oom

  • This project is very yummy :D

  • Wow I didn't know that was possable, I thought I had to buy all stuff.

  • cool idea

im not sure that i like that you can see the pins on the leds id prefer if they were hidden

i think that it would look alot better if the switch on the outside was also hidden

but aside from that, i think there could be a market out there for these types of bags

    keep up the good work

  • Neat project, well presented :)

  • You should show your face more often then just in the begining of the vid, your really pretty, and i wished i saw you more then just 5 seconds at the very beginning.

Other then that, nice vid, i will be looking forward to the next one.

  • where do i buy these Arduinos?

  • in the makershed website

  • C++ What a beautiful language!

  • Just started using Objective C, I kinda like it but it doesn't feel the same... you know.

  • This code seems a lot like the coding used in Flash.

  • yawn (-_-)zzzzzz

  • there is something wrong in the code watch at the end of the vid the led that is bottom right it dont stop blinking

  • looks like she fixed it though, it doesn't do that when she rides her bike at night. Nice observation

  • yes good catch! But no she did not fix it. Do watch the night sceen again you will see it flashing, I think she may have crossed the power or ground lead for that LED with others, or there is an error in the program.

  • lol

  • good one

    ☻/

    /▌

/ \ This is Bob he will never get a girlfriend hes gay

  • girls who do stuff like this are hot. always.

  • great vid

  • no she is not

  • Thats pretty cool. Thanks.

  • I'll never understand this.

  • HAST DU EIGENTLICH NIX BESSERES zum scheißen als immer mit dem lilipad kakteil rumzumachen?? DX

  • lol

  • The point is to teach folks how to make soft circuits. You have to start learning somewhere, and this project is a natural continuation from the last LilyPad video.

  • it's awesome. i love make mag, keep it up!

  • I KNOW, but she is doing that since 1000 years :D,....

    KipKay FTW!

  • You make some awesome videos ^_^

  • i bet knowone has ever made anything use have showed:P

  • Why does the bottom right L.E.D. blink so often?

  • it's right by the power source. thus it blinks are power passes through, like old christmas lights.

  • dang she is HOT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that's an awesome light for your bag

  • Girl you are awesome :P

  • That is a LOT of velcro at 10:49

  • Nice lol even thought kind of kidish

  • what is written on the badge?

  • Bah. I was going to post an alternative solution to the light-cycling function (one, that didn't require conditionals or for loops), but Youtube is being a bitch and doesn't want me to post anything resembling either program code or a URL.

    -.-

It'd probably have been buggy anyway.

  • Yeah, I also wrote a generalized form of the code that will blink any number of LEDs at a time around the patch, but I found this version easier to explain to beginners.

  • Love the craft videos, great presenter (also very cute). I definitely want to give this one a try when I have some spare cash to play around with.

  • they should make a different account for craftmagazine

  • Why? This video could just as well be a MAKE video.

  • to confusing...

    baby crafts

  • don't go to an airport with that you might get shot

  • nice

  • that is so cool!! thanks for nice videos!!
