There have been some milder times where is was just discrimination. Persecution is inherent in Islam. The verses commanding Muhammad and his followers to fight and kill infidels are all over the Quran and have abrogated all the relatively more peaceful Meccan verses. There is no denying that.

They spent 30 years brown-nosing to Mubarak, and not it's Tantawy's turn. They have absolutely no credibility, and neither has Al-Jazeera, who also had to do the same thing. Egyptian TV also said that first day that the US said they would send troops to protect churches, which also turned out to be a lie. But it doesn't matter. Nobody believes them anymore.

@supertrlka22 That was actually a lie that was perpetrated by Egyptian TV and has since been retracted, and was explained away stupidly that the program anchor was stressed out. There were clashes on one of the bridges as the tanks and military vehicles were making their way to Maspero and they were attacked by muslim mobs. The Copts in the demonstrations had no weapons unless you consider the crosses they were carrying as weapons. What happened there is absolutely indefensible.

Egypt has gone downhill since then, fueled mostly by the 2nd article in the constitution and the "sahwa al-islamiya". Listen to the Friday speeches at most mosques. Have you noticed that the vast majority of the violence against Copts happens on Fridays right after the muslim prayer? Why do you think this is?

Abu Bakr was assassinated, and so were Omar, Othman, Ali, Mu'awia, Ali's two sons, and so on down the line. We studied all that a long time ago and it's all very well documented in Islamic history. You can of course choose to be a revisionist, but that doesn't change the historical facts.
