Japan had come to Truman with a peace offering days before he decided to nuke Japan. He nuked Japan because he wanted an unconditional surrender. He didn't want to recognize the Japanese as equals. Nuclear missiles have never been ethical by any justification.

This would have resulted in millions... MILLIONS of additional deaths in the Pacific. Which decision would you have made?

And I'm NOT saying that the USA hasn't made mistakes. Governments do many covert things that sometimes the public are not aware of. However, as a whole, our intentions are good. WWII is a prime example... It used to be we would strongly oppose involvement in other conflicts, but in the end Europe was about to be completely decimated by Germany. We used nuclear weapons as a last resort against an enemy that claimed (and demonstrated) time and time again that they would never surrender. At that time, if the nuclear bombs were not used, the landing at Japan would have been another Normandy, most likely far more brutal simply because the Japanese were almost eager to kill themselves in order to kill us. This would have resulted in millions... MILLIONS of additional deaths in the Pacific. Which decision would you have made?

During the three days we kept up the fire bombing. We dropped the second and then gave them a longer period of time. Finally their emperor humbled himself enough to surrender. YES. We are the first and only country to use a nuclear weapon. but we were at war already. BIG difference. Now they can be used to start wars with countries like Pakistan, N. Korea and Iran posessing such weapons

Good point. They are known to only have about 6-8 weapons, all of them with yields of about 12-20 kilotons. The U.S. has some 6,000 nukes, most of them have yields of 5-15 megatons.

Well, once again someone uneducated makes a little film with stats, but doesn't look at the big picture. Why do we have non-nuclear proliferation treaty? I'm not looking at the definition, but many great powers couldn't imagine a world where all nations possessed nuclear weapons. It would have been more dangerous today had these nations not come together on this. It's not a U.S. problem alone here, it's not in our back yard. Think about it!
