So things evolved independently (and differently) in various species. Many animals also show intelligence - other primates, dolphins, elephants, some birds. The question is really one of scale. Our minds have just developed further than others (so far) - not a big jump really.
Certainly no real difference between the morphology of other primates and ourselves.

@VvGatube Technically, we're a subset of monkey. Humans are a specific group of genetically isolated (from physical isolation) monkeys. So monkeys bred with monkeys. The difference is that mutations occurred in a separate group rather than in the whole species. Another metaphor: Take all the money you have in your wallet. Put half of it in a bank account. Put the other half in a Roth IRA. Different, concurrent changes are being made with those monies, even though they both came from your wallet.

If you do succeed in having a child then the genetic material in the eggs you were born with or in the sperm you are producing right now will dictate what that child will be like when they are born.
If you are a black and white couple your child will have features of both races. In this way genetic changes simply ebbs and flows.
