When we were kids, my mother moved my sister and I here from Illinois back in 1978. I asked her, "You mean you're actually moving us to a town that dreads sundown?"
Being a fellow Texarkana Texan lol I have to say..screw the post office! Why not mention TLC!! Easily the best burgers ever! But still, I appreciate the video.
Wow! Loved it! Born and Raised in Texarkana! Bryce's is still my favorite... but they didn't mention TLC Hamburgers and GQ Look! Shout out to George! :)
Texarkana is my father's hometown. I remember eating at Bryce's Cafeteria and watching this segment, I remember the photographs that my grandmother took- one each of my brother and I standing in front of the post office with one foot in Texas and one foot in Arkansas. I miss my grandparents - Harold and Oleta Eatman.
What they don't show is how there are a bunch of people that don't want to work there. Mostly blacks, but alot of white trash too. Every decent neighborhood is being taken over by hoodlum's with gold teeth. Stop doing meth and get a job!!!! Then you wouldn't need those gold teeth.
I was born and finished school here but moved away years ago. My ancestors moved here in 1931, so we've seen many changes. I think it's finally becoming a great city. I moved back in 2002 and now own my childhood home in a great section of Highland Park. No other place I've been feels better.
I came here hoping to find the R.E.M. song. Oh well, it was worth it to hear the profound statement that "it takes two halves of a city to make a whole city."
This is my Dad's hometown (Arkansas side), and YES there are success stories from this town! Consider my Dad's brother, who is a retired police chief there, AND who appeared in the movie, "The Town That Dreaded Sundown", which was about a true story that happened there when they were small. Also, my Uncle Guy, who was originally from Texarkana, who was the owner of Guy's Orange Stand of Nash, featuring the big Texas hamburgers.
I'm from Texarkana and ate at Guy's often. I loved the orange drink along with the peanuts and those awesome burgers. My dad was also a successful business man there. I wish I would have stayed and built my life there.
Thanks for sharing this. We always stopped in there when we were down for a visit. Uncle Guy actually had a twin brother. He is my Dad's mother's brother. And though he is gone now, the last I heard, his children were still running it, but I don't know now if it is still open or not. Don't know if you remember Hartshorn Tile Company, which was owned by my grandfather.
That is good to know. Haven't been there in so long. Last I heard, his son, Rusty is running it now. Sure would love to get back there one of these days, and get one of those burgers!
ROFL! I am the person who started this by sending in the letter...and I don't live in Texarkana, AR anymore...we moved with the job. But, I loved living there, nice small town atmosphere with everything you really need. It is true...all the development is on the TX side.
I rephrase. For IT there is absolutely no work. I actually pay less in rent in utilities here than I ever did in Texarkana with better living conditions.
I moved out of Texarkana because it sucks - if you have skills other than stocking shelves, flipping burgers, or driving a forklift or a truck, there's no work. I'm currently in Dallas and have made more money in a year than I did in over 2 years in Texarkana.
good real estate prices out there.... better than malibu...you can be bi-state which has a different meaning than out here , if you are in a state of 'bi'.....you guys got "shine" out there?

I'm from Lockesburg, AR. which is 40 miles north of Texarkana. I also went to college there too. This is a great town to go and hang out.

Texarkana is a black hole.
I got out as soon as I could, and I haven't been back since.
The two side thing is the only special thing, and it's not even that special since the Arkansas side has absolutely nothing now but liquor stores.

Yay! I visited this town today! Fun place, but I enjoyed Texas's half better (Texas > Arkansas)

So true! And, housing is no more expensive in Dallas than Texarkana. Texarkana is full of crooks.
