  • 2:07 the frame with Alan on the upper left corner... LOL

  • I absolutely love and adore Depeche Mode, i have done since i was 10 years old, way back when, but this video is just terrible! So SO terrible!

  • I love how they looked so confused lol.

  • whats at @2:16? Jello? :D

  • Dave was the first blue man before there was a blue man group.

  • Love the Brady Bunch frames around them.

  • love it!

  • i loce it!!! old school dm came out when i was 3!

  • wow, they were really ahead of the game with those yoga balls. And did I just see the blue man group?

  • I dont know why they never include this in any video collections. This is my first time seeing this after being a fan since the start. They must have hid it from America.

  • i can't believe it. i've never seen this video before even though dm have always been my favourite band. i remember being at college and one of my mates was telling me about a video where they were smashing plates and stuff and i'd no idea what he was talking about. he wasn't sure if it was dm or tears for fears though so i thought he was getting mixed up. wonder why it wasn't on the some great videos video? would have cleared that up a long time ago. god bless youtube.

  • 80s belong to DM! (:

  • Apprentely Depeche Mode was on the home shopping Network when they made this Video lol

  • jaja, obviously, Anton is no here, and this song is very good but the video is bad

  • i hate been in this situation...

  • Time goes by but this song stands the test of time BIG time!!!

  • i think the video was based on the Generation Game ;)

  • thx for keeping this video, I've been looking for this for a long time ...

  • This will be the last time...

I think i said that last time

  • great song, crap video

  • Love this song!

  • amarcord song...

  • Alan Wilder would have fitted in well in a fancy dress party as the (Less Than) Incredible Hulk :)

  • lol 1:26 martin looks like an oompa-loompa in that white/orange color scheme

  • OMG! What was Julien Temple smoking when he directed this?! LOL

It's no wonder that guys don't like their videos of this time :)

  • @PeterShishlin most indeed. and this was their least liked according to their official biography, I forget the quote but it was along the lines of it being completely ridiculous

  • original freestyle

  • David Gahan looks like a teen. I love me some DM!

  • This video is completely ridiculous..... and I'm in love with it.

  • was this a popular style in 1982?

  • They have Alan in the video even though he didn't play on it. Imagine how much better A Broken Frame would have been if he had

  • Loooool

    Alan looks like Hulk xD

  • of course this video makes it obvious why they have stuck with anton corbin for so long

  • I can´t stand this emotional violence ! ;)

  • Great song, Embarrassing video. Oh dear.

  • this video makes me laugh, considering how dark the song is XD

  • Simplemente impresionante!!!! A Broken Frame Thumbs up!!!!!

  • I love all of Depeche Mode's songs.

  • My goodness! I didn't know that there was an official video for this song. This is Avatar before "Avatar"... if you know what I mean. ;)

  • @ajittffcure Right! And this is much better than the second Avatar :)

  • smack that Jello mold!

Depeche Mode, you've stolen my entire soul!

    I LOVE YOU! <3

  • looooooooove! ♥

  • Never saw that video from Depeche Mode...thanks :)

  • I saw this video when I was four. My parents weren't happy when I tried to imitate them and took a hammer to the groceries. I would watch this video over and over again on the VCR. I didn't speak or understand a word of English but absolutely loved Depeche Mode. I have been searching for this video on youtube for a long time so glad somebody posted the original video.

  • @hrr379 More interesting to read from people when they were teens at the time

  • @hrr379 That's the true power of music, it transcends the barrier of language.

  • wuawwwwww very rare!!!!!!

  • so many times have i felt this way

  • not sure why DM tried very hard to omit this interestingly shot video on any of their VHS and DVD releases. And seeing them bouncing on those yoga balls is priceless :)

  • still great. one of their best.

  • DM 4-ever..

  • Quality Vid, quality tune, the Depeche mode are the best!!

  • Hehe I think this is one of those early videos that DM disliked so much later

  • the banging of kitchen utensils makes me laugh SO much!! hahah xD

  • leave in silence it's my fav Depeche Mode song, it's actually simple song with big depth....always reminds me many things, thirlls me. I think more like this song shuld be made. I love Depeche Mode :)

  • @LizzyStephieTwins

It's my favorite too. It contains within it all the elements of what makes Depeche Mode Depeche Mode.

  • decoder

  • great song but I prefer the long version, with the synthesizer at the end doing crazy things

  • 1982... 12 years old... my first depeche mode contact... still love it! thanks a lot for this vid, never seen it before! :-)))

  • das video ist doch total genial..

this video is just awesome !!!!!!!!

who is doing things like this in this days ...its so crap but soooo funny in the same time...like most of the videos in that time....blue yellow red green coloured depeche mode i mean that is something...andy warhol in depeche mode early days?

  • This particular single marked a turning point towards their more darker sound that was to follow.

  • haunting piece of music

depeche modes lyrics were bloody good too

a very underated band i think

  • Videos from the 80s were so weird but so good. Perhaps, I'm bias because it takes me back to my youth. Where has all the time gone?

  • @eatandtravel

yeah most videos were weird they were a new thing and there wasnt an established way of doing things i suppose

  • @eatandtravel

    where? i think down :(

  • very funny! :)

  • One of the best bands, ever

  • 1.06 martin wacks Daves head, Dave tries not to laugh, and you can see it n Daves face b4 he goes blue + at the end Dave and Martin are laughing just like in the end strange love...........fantastic.....LOVE THE TUNE ..THE BAND ...AND ALL THEY STAND FOR!.

  • The song's good, but watching the video I wander should I laugh or cry

  • I love this video.. it's funny... and everything!

  • WAH,DM soo young here :)

  • You have just witnessed the bith of EBM... electronic music.

  • Great song, horrible video!

  • Con los 4 colores, me acuerdo de Parchis!!!!!!

  • Video=GREAT song=AMAZING

  • This is utterly ghastly! Now I know what the band were on about when they said "some directors took the piss". Spacehoppers? WTF?

  • @supercrazyoi You clearly didnt get it einstein.

  • @supergoose3

WHAT is there to get? Do explain Mr Genious? A very literal, poorly executed embarrassing interpretation of an atmospheric song, EH EH? IS THAT WHAT? The band doesn't even get it. Thats why they would rather forget it. See?

  • The video itself is quite unusual, but there's nothing that spoils this track! One of the best from A Broken Frame, it's so underrated...

  • One of the few memorable tracks from the early 80's. I'm one of those who prefer Depeche's early stuff.

  • @videoreff me too! the '80s were great, and i don't even know what they're doing anymore.

  • @videoreff yes the early stuff was pretty awesome in its time, and some of it still works today. for me, this is one that still works.

  • @videoreff I also prefer their early stuff but to say this is one of the few memorable records from the early 80s is rubbish. There were tons of memorable records from the early 80s. To be honest, as much as I love this record, if you played it to the average Jo Bloggs they probably WOULDN'T know it.

  • @videoreff Yes I agree, their early work was more thought provoking and the music was more intricate and experimental. For me, I lost interest in DM when Violator came out. That album was really music for the masses lol! But I miss simple ethereal tunes like Leave in Silence.

  • @aramanth You're about right there. I've got to credit DM for having been a good band but I always had them down as the band with the most potential. For old times sake I saw them a while back in London but I just didn't get it. The current DM aren't for me but hey, there were a lot of hardcore fans in the building, more luck to them.

    So yeah.

  • @videoreff

I think in the eighties were the best years of Depeche Mode. I like too much that early techno.
