Question for BigCatRescue: Wiki says that snow leopards are not aggresive and there were no recorded instances of attacks on humans. They go as far as saying that snow leopards might not even defend themselves when attacked... I find it hard to believe... Is that true in your experience? Have you seen aggressive behavior from these cats?
@mrkv39 There's no recorded attacks on humans because they live in very remote areas and hardly ever encounter people they stay very well hidden. From my experience working with our snow leopard, I'm sure they would defend themselves just like any other wild species of cat.
@BigCatRescue I saw a snow leopard when I was at my local zoo and he was making quite an odd sound. It sound almost as if he were saying "Ow" but elongated. Do you know what that means?
i wish u can save the iraqi leopard ....really sad its killing me when i see villigers in my country killing them its very rare now you barely can see one one im asuming there are may be only ten iraqi leopard left .i dont know what to do about that no one cares about it in my country as war is going on .i went to the only zooligist in iraq he answered well people are dying who would care about animals.
It is known by most people that baby animals learn most of their skills from their mothers...not always by INSTINCT. They need their mother to SHOW them the way. Especially when it comes to hunting and killing prey. I think it is great what these caring people are doing for these cats. They are doing the best they can at giving them a loving home when the previous owners just wanted to abuse them and throw them away.
@Jalynn419 But you know what the problem is for big cats that grow up in captivity? Their youngsters can't learn any hunting skills because humans are feeding them, for some generations. But what if they at young age stand face in face with african prey?.. maybe humans can learn the youngsters something. and finally tag them and release them in the wild for months to test it while keeping an eye out, this is very dangerous. But if we wanna release these animals we have to do it. BCR the best.
@Kranda123 Oh yes I agree. :) I think with help and determination animals could be released back into the wild. I just don't like it when someone talks like they know-it-all. And then put down people when they are actually trying to help these cats.
@Jalynn419 Big Cat Rescue is the best man. And i hope they can release the offspring of these cats one day. But i know that that's a challenge that takes at least 8 hours if not more a day.
@Kranda123 it's not just the problem of teaching them how to hunt that keeps these cats from being released into the wild. they are too used to humans, and would wind up being killed by poachers or being killed by the local people for preying on livestock or just for coming too close to town. also, cats that lose their fear of humans can become very dangerous and may attack people, which would lead to their deaths.
@AnnePackrat I Think It Had Something To Do With Their Vocal Cords Or A Bone Thing In The Back Of Their Throat. Like How Cougers Can Purr While Other Big Cats Can't. I Don't Really Know, I'm Just Guessing. Try Googling It. :3 Hope I Helped.
@lljcool7 We wish it were that simple but it is not and captive bred cats, that are rescued from backyards and circuses will never be released back into the wild so the best we can do is provide them with a permanent home for the rest of their lives :) Please visit our website BigCatRescue*org for more info about what we do...

@BigCatRescue This is worst than poaching...u pricks keep 'em in cages n make a profit off them...at least poachers admit they are bad...u captivate your gullible viewers that your very "good".AND ITS NOT DIFFICULT TO RELEASE THEM BACK TO THE WILD!
@lljcool7 I assure you releasing captive bred big cats into the wild very rarely happens and like I said above our cats would never be suitable because they are crossbred and/or inbred so genetically they would not be considered, not to mention, lack of hunting skills, association of people with food etc.. etc... We RESCUE these cats from dire situations and provide them with a permanent home for the rest of their lives,we raise money in order to care for the 100+ cats who love at BCR.
@BigCatRescue It's not really worth trying to explain to radicals such as this guy. The whole PETA-extremism makes these guys blind to reality, best not to worry about explaining things to them =)
@BigCatRescue Thank you for caring for such finicky animals. It isn't an easy job but these beautiful animals have the best homes that humans can provide for them. Why some people think they are house cats is beyond me. They are wild animals, not domesticated. Ideally there would be no need to rescue them, but sadly there's always a dimwit in the crowd that thinks breeding them for profit is a good idea.
@BigCatRescue if a young jaguar or any cat whose mother is killed by poachers and it is confronted with a deadly savanna snake it avoids it due to something called INSTINCT! Babay turtles find instinctively their way to the ocean..the list goes on...you dont seem to get the point, animals are different from us.they dont need human tutoring
@lljcool7 Actually, BCR is a non-profit. The money they "make" goes to building larger enclosures, providing enrichment, vet services, and huge loads of food for all the cats they take care of. They also rely on donations
Cats that are used to human interaction cannot be released back to the wild. They usually wind up being easy prey for hunters. Unfortunately, there's no way to avoid human contact in rescue animals, but it's better than abuse, poor standard captivity (like zoos) or death.
@lljcool7 If it were as easy as you imagine, then there would be no need to rescue these animals. They are not capable of living in the wild. Some can learn to live in the wild, but others will be destined to be cared for in a refuge like BigCatRescue. Thankfully they are in good hands.
@lljcool7 you are so stupid. if animals don't learn how to chase a prey when they are puppies they will never do it. if they release them back to the wild, they will probably die cause they dont know how to survive.
@lljcool7 Please don't act so stupidly. These people are doing an amazing service to animals that have been abused and forced into habitats in which they did not belong, by people who were ignorant. BCR is creating more natural environments and a healthy living habitat. Don't be ignorant, educate yourself before you make yourself look foolish on the internet.
I have this thought that working with big cats would be the same as working with domestic cats, just 20x larger and more dangerous. Am i right in thinking that or is it a totally different experience?
@xKamehameha Well, we don't allow contact with our cats, because it definitely is more dangerous working around these animals no matter how much experience you have. Hope you can visit someday! :)
@HitomiMaaka The simple answer is no, you cannot truly tame any species of wild animal, they will always have those wild instincts and will always remain dangerous and unpredictable no matter how long you have worked around them or how well you think you know the animal.
Also, I know very well that half of these animals wouldn't even know how to live on their own. They're better off living and breading in a reserve than struggling for food and dying, making their species even more rare.
I think it's beautiful what you do to these animals. For anyone hating about them being caged, know that they're only caging them so that they're not hurting people. If they were fully safe for human interaction, they'd be roaming around the wildlife parks just as easy as we do. Their reason for being in there in the first place, isn't because we're greedy and feel we need to lock them up, but it's the fact that poachers get their nasty hands on them, and those kind hearts rescued them.

@raudonakurtke lol so did i hes so beautiful that it makes me wanna cry cause someone put him in a possition that bigcatrescue had to save him and yet he can never be free...
I have a silly question: do the big cats smell the same way house cats do? That "litter box" smell? I know it's a strange question. I LOVE my house cats though...
@BigCatRescue Oh cool. :) They remind me so much of my housecats. (Just on a really big scale. LOL) I see so many of the same characteristics in domestic cats and big ones.
so if a snow leopard can't roar, what do they do (or what sound do they make) when they are threatened or want to be intimidating or give a warning to other animals?
Bare fangs, get into a hunt position, fur all raised up. Looks no different than a threatening house cat. Difference is, these cats can kill you if they wanted.
Hercules isn't dead, is he? I thought he was alive.
I don't know a species that can HISS better than a cat. It's true about my house cat. She hisses up a storm sometimes. She even hissed when one of my tears fell on her fur. That's how much she hates water. She doesn't even like a drop of water getting on her.
@NoLifeSketh Our snow leopard has never lived in freezing temperatures like they would in the wild, she as adapted to the florida climate, you see her more in the mornings and evenings, during the heat of the day she can escape into her air conditioned den box !! :)
You organization is amazing. I always look forward to getting your newsletter. It's weird, I'm not a fan of domestic cats, but I LOVE the big cats, especially tigers and leopards. I'll be sending a donation soon. Thank you for what you do for the cats.
@BigCatRescue "Yes, snow leopards are very rare, owning these wild species of cats is something we are against :)"
Ahh, but they wouldn't be so rare if lots of people did that. The domestic cat has been very successful. There are millions of them. They've spread across the globe. Why? Because they've found a niche. And that niche is as man's best friend. You have to admit, you wouldn't be complaining about them being so rare if the snow leopard had been domesticated in the same way as well.

He's so beautiful.
You said they can "mew." Do a lot of big cats do that?
LisaBaby67 1 year ago
@LisaBaby67 Quite a few species make these noises :)
BigCatRescue 1 year ago
@BigCatRescue Oh cool. :) They remind me so much of my housecats. (Just on a really big scale. LOL) I see so many of the same characteristics in domestic cats and big ones.
LisaBaby67 1 year ago
@BigCatRescue For such big cats, they have quite a meow!
ApacheMan2K 1 year ago
so if a snow leopard can't roar, what do they do (or what sound do they make) when they are threatened or want to be intimidating or give a warning to other animals?
purplerosegoldheart 1 year ago
@purplerosegoldheart They hiss and they also a make a weird grumble noise (hard to explain)
BigCatRescue 1 year ago
Bare fangs, get into a hunt position, fur all raised up. Looks no different than a threatening house cat. Difference is, these cats can kill you if they wanted.

alicecullen1213 1 year ago
Hercules isn't dead, is he? I thought he was alive.
I don't know a species that can HISS better than a cat. It's true about my house cat. She hisses up a storm sometimes. She even hissed when one of my tears fell on her fur. That's how much she hates water. She doesn't even like a drop of water getting on her.
She's one finicky cat. ^w^

Snow leopards are my favorite cat ever. But don't they normally hate hot/warmer climates than the one they are normally in?
NoLifeSketh 1 year ago
@NoLifeSketh Our snow leopard has never lived in freezing temperatures like they would in the wild, she as adapted to the florida climate, you see her more in the mornings and evenings, during the heat of the day she can escape into her air conditioned den box !! :)

You organization is amazing. I always look forward to getting your newsletter. It's weird, I'm not a fan of domestic cats, but I LOVE the big cats, especially tigers and leopards. I'll be sending a donation soon. Thank you for what you do for the cats.

@KiDSiSteR111 Yes, snow leopards are very rare, owning these wild species of cats is something we are against :)

You have to admit, you wouldn't be complaining about them being so rare if the snow leopard had been domesticated in the same way as well.
medexamtoolsdotcom 6 months ago
@medexamtoolsdotcom We prefer to keep wild animals wild. These cats will never be domesticated.
BigCatRescue 6 months ago
@medexamtoolsdotcom Man's best friend? Eh, I'm more of a canine person. Cats don't really seem to care as much for me as dogs do.
