  • Wunderschön

  • How copypasting Beatles :D

  • @n3whous3. Everebody was copypasting the Beatles in '64-'66

  • i love the pumpkin pie haircuts

  • Just letting everyone know originally the beatles were the silver beetles then they were known as the beetles and then soon after that I think it was Paul said they were playing beat music so they said they should be called the beatles and that is the one that stuck...soooo how everybody get a clue and stop making this generation look like a bunch of idiots.....k thanks :)

  • Crosby look so sweet and innocent. Does anyone agree?

  • McGuinn looks wasted!

  • Love the song the band, the video and really love the way that almost 50 years on The Byrds still provoke praise, scorn, condemnation, curiosity, admiration and controvery - just as they always did in their hey-day. Roger, David and Chris - thanks for the music. Gene and Michael - rest in peace, you were, and sill are the best.

  • The one playing the tambourine was drop dead gorgeous! And the Byrds rocked!

  • Dude in the blue glasses gives major douche chills

  • @MisterAtoms LOL

  • Roger's shades (the blue ones) look like they more-or-less resemble the eyeglass frame #TH3178 (by Tommy Hilfiger)... now, if only I knew of a place that would tint the lenses to that deep of a shade of blue...

  • @drefeno thats the first thing i thought lmao xD

  • @drefeno Firstly, they're better than the Beatles. Secondly the Beatles weren't "pioneers" of the genre or anything.

  • @borntoend94 I thought Dylan was *the* pioneer of folk rock, and I believe Beatles were pioneers of psychadelic pop and numerous recording techniques.

  • @borntoend94 Dude, "better than the Beetles" doesn't exist! Also there's no "a" in Beetles. Not to mention, there's a good deal of people who actually KNOW who the Beetles are! I clicked on this link through a website about folk music!

  • @drefeno Who are "the beetles"?

  • @drefeno dude its spelled "Beatles" not "Beetles"

  • @drefeno no "a" in the beatles ,you sure do know them

  • @drefeno I lol'd

  • @borntoend94 the byrds are a great band but the beatles are unbeatable

  • @beatlesecw ok, the Beatles did some great music (some stuff on Revolver, Abbey Road etc.) but there are many bands that are as good as and even better than them, as far as I'm concerned.

  • @borntoend94 unfortunately for you your in a massive minority with that comment... the beatles are , will and probably always will be the greatest band of all time..the sales and the critics dont lie..so many classics ,hey jude, strawberry fields forever, help, tomorrow never knows, while my guitar gently weeps,a little help from my friends ect ect ect ect ect ..

  • At Byrds concerts Crosby used to hand out joints to the crowd before they started playing. The late 60s and early 70s were such a great period to live through.but dangerous if you were on the left as we were and still are.

  • The byrds are really good, they came out with the song 8 miles high and that was the start of LSD becoming rather aparent in 60s culture they banned the song from the radios, which all in all made the band more popular, and i like this version better than the Bob Dylan version

  • some look a little ....... delusional

  • @Roomie4rent go fuck yourself u know no good music you don't even know what music is go outside get a job get a life get some friends get a girlfriend and get out of your moms basement out of your fat chair with your big greasy cheeseburger asshole

  • Comment removed

  • Now that's some good music. ^^

  • Great song but it's a pity they didn't do this song live like they did " Turn Turn Turn " on the show. I'm always of the opinion that even though the live version may not be up to the same audio standard as the recorded version; they should still do it live as it has a certain atmoshere. Regards.

  • @roomie4rent,,,, no dude u got it wrong,,, these guys were a very famous!!!!!!!!!!!! its a very known band of its time

  • Wait a minute, is the drummer just air drumming? And the actual damn "tambourine man" isn't even the lead singer. He's probably faking too. This band is a joke.

  • @roomie4rent Ure a fucking idiot. They were one of the best bands of their era

  • @TheWallOfSound1990 I salute you in coming to the vigorous defense of an unremarkable band's cover song. Your palpable fury and passion serve as an inspiration to karaoke singers and air drummers everywhere. Carry on.

  • @roomie4rent I'm guessing ure a hip hop fan?

  • @TheWallOfSound1990 Not at all, I just think the Byrds were far overshadowed by the actual luminaries of the 60's scene - Dylan among them. And he never faked a performance on television.

  • @roomie4rent I beg to differ dear roomie. This group's song, lipsynched or not, defined a moment of limitless possibility that defined an era.

  • :-) geil

  • 0:28 john lennon like?

  • Okay, for all of you who seem to be confused by this video:

Sometimes, some artists choose to perform a song by ANOTHER artist.

    This is called A COVER.

(For those of you who love to go for the "They stole this song"-comments: It's not STEALING, because they chose to say who wrote it. Not in this clip though, but that's Ed Sullivan's show's fault...)

  • I want the tambourine man to play a song for me 2

  • Of course its a Dylan song....! Many of their songs were Dylan-Songs...;)

  • According to wiki (not the best source) it is bob dylan's song.

  • @tt983 When it comes down to basic facts like "who performed this song first" etc. Wikipedia is a very reliable sorce.

When it comes to theories, complex episodes in history etc. it's perhaps not.

  • i always thought its from bob dylan :/

  • Yeah. That's music.

Much better than the "Music" of today...

  • No wonder David Crosby got all that tail. He was a cutesy looking kid, sweet back up voice.

  • that cape is badass

  • The Beatles' ripoffs..

  • they had REALL music unlike the crap people listen to like freakin the jonas brothers and all that crap

  • "Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded."

    Abraham Lincoln

  • With all this "war on drugs" stuff I'm pretty sure Mr Tambourine Man won't take another request

  • this is one of the greatest songs ever and bob dylans original version is just as good :)))))))

  • @lfclfclfc9torres This really is a most beautiful song

  • I think it make sense that "Mr. Tambourine man" is about the drugs ! I mean just listen to the lyrics

  • i really wonder what song a tambourine could play ... being a percussive instrument.....like asking someone to play a snare....

  • Theres a german TV series in which that song plays an important role.... its just so beautiful!!!

  • He probably was having the time of his life. This was the Ed Sullivan show, if you made it here, you had made it to the big time. I lived throught he 50-'s forward and although the 60's were some turbulent times in history, there was a lot of great music came out of that era. This is my favorite sone of all of the songs thatt came out and there were some really great groups from the 60's.

  • i don't know the byrds that well but the one on 1.57 looks like a really nice guy.

    peace 'n love from Holland

  • @The60sMusicman

That would be David Crosby at 1:57. He usually sang harmony in the groups that he sang with.

  • I would sell my soul to be raised in this era. This is when music was legendary! Luckily, I was raised in the 80s, and this style was still somewhat popular. Most of today's noise I could do without!

  • Mcguinn Rocks.

  • It's pretty immature a lot of people here calling other people's music crap. For someone who hasn't really given this music a shot it could easily sound like a cheesy Beatles ripoff, when it's really not. You might be surprised what you can discover in other music if you give it a real shot and don't just right it off. Anyways, awesome song, awesome cover.

  • great song

  • rap can suck it this is real music

  • Poor Bob Dylan he always composes the best songs and others make better versions.

  • their hair is AMAZING!!!!! and I want those sunglasses :D Man, the 60s were so EPIC, I wish I could have been there......

  • its one of my favorites 60s songs

  • @natdodgerfan For sure

  • this is something you can call music.

and not this techno, hip-hop crap today...

  • They just keep deleting alot of my favorite songs! Well, they can't delete this because it was on Ed Sullivan. And it sounds great. Probably because they were lipsyncing to this song. I see wires from their guitars, but no amps! God, David Crosby looks so young here!

  • not everyone lip synced. a good deal of the beatles performances are live.

  • About to interview Roger McGuinn in ten minutes and watched this to warm up. Amazing piece of history.

  • I need shades and a cape like these guys.

  • R they lip singing or something? Also they look like they r on drugs.. Great band and song though!!!

  • @soxboywoz93 yes, they're lipsyncing. but almost all live television gigs were back then... also, they probably were on drugs. the 60s were a rad time man

  • If I still smoked weed this would be my get high song.

  • Too bad they didn't do it live, like the Beatles did. Wonder why. Did they suck live?

  • great cover!

  • the one singer looks like woody harelson. lol sorry i cant spell

  • So Simple , So Great!

  • Comment removed

  • What's his name? The tall guy in the middle? Nice eyes esp 1:49-1:57...he is indeed the Tambourine Man....^-^

  • His name is Gene Clark.

  • @annalynborja Thats Gene Clark, no relation to Michael Clarke the drummer. Gene Clark passed away several years ago from a heart attack I think. He also had an alcohol problem. I grew up listening to the Byrds. Man, what a great group. Their harmony was unbelieveable.

  • @johnnynocaster - Thank u so much for the info. Pity Gene's no longer with us. And yes, they're one of the best band in the 60's, after The Beatles though....

  • The song was written by Bob Dylan.

  • listen to the words lambs...nothing to do with drugs....wake up

  • David looks so strange without the beard

  • I LOVE DAVID CROSBY- but what the fuck is he wearing?? hahahaha

  • I would've killed to see them in person. Ed Sullivan's program on tv was a pretty good second best.

  • RogerMcGuinn, GeneClark, DavidCrosby,

Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke("The drummer").

The first and best line up of the band..Awesome upload ..Thanks!

    I am thrilled!!

  • I would fucking kill to leave in the 60's man. Just an amazing time for Music not like todays fucking noise.

  • Amen!

  • @Lowell253

    Fuckin A

  • @Lowell253 Ever heard of CDs and iPods? You don't have to listen to the radio and even then there are stations which only play songs from certain decades. I don't see why you're bitching about a whole lot of nothing.

  • @9AlexB6 YOU A DUMB BITCH DID I EVER SAY I LISTEN TO TODAY"S MUSIC. NA thats what i thought get your fucking facts straight then come back a talk to me.

    FUCKING RETARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Lowell253 I never said you did listen to today's music. I'm telling you that there are tons of other options if you want to listen to older music. Why are you having a bitch fit over nothing? I've got my facts straight, it's you that hasn't.

  • @Lowell253 No one cares crybaby, shut the fuck up and go bitch to your stupid parents that irresponsibly created your worthless self. Hopefully you'll learn from your parents' mistake, and get yourself sanitized so you don't accidentally grace the world with more of your families inbred genetics. Good music in the 60's, though, I do agree with you there..

  • @Lowell253

yeah that is right...i say fuck problems i would go bacck and leave in that era just because the music and ppl opinion...fuck my ingkish is bad :I

  • You know, you can find great music in any decade if you would just look.

  • @Lowell253 60's were great and the Byrds rocked but enough with the line "todays music stinks, sucks, noise, etc" It just makes you out to be old and show you turned into your parents. Older folk hated the crap noise/devils music of Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis, etc and the then older people hated the peace, drug, etc music of the 60's and on and on. Let people enjoy the music they love. Anyway great clip and song!

  • @BeetlesRock60 I agree as well, there is good modern music if you look for it...im also like a lot of older music

but what was popular back then wasnt necessarily good music....my classic rock station plays kc casum Americna top 40's reruns (from the 60s-70s) on sundays.........if you want awful music you should listen to it

  • @Lowell253 sigh i completely agree

  • @Lowell253

    you are so fucking right!

  • I love the people who were against their parents and the music mocking, etc back then and are now like yooouuu darn kids and your music/noise. LOL! Byrds were great. Good video.

  • This is an amazing it think this cover is the best cover of any song of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice performance, and fantastic picture quality too!

  • I gotta say, I like this version better than Dylan's.

The drummer looks a lot like Brian Jones...

  • Blue & Silver/Titanium shades.

    'nuff said.

    >B-)

  • Watch the drummer from :47 to :50. He appears to be having the time of his life. These kids seem to be having a lot of fun here, and that's what music is all about.

  • LSD

  • great video.

  • Brain Jones on drums

  • lol he didnt die he secretly wuit the rolling stones 2 join the byrds

  • WOODSTOCK

  • what a song!

  • i still remember this song....duh it brings alot of memory...

  • Wow, Ed Sullivan sure invested a lot on the sets in those days..lol.

  • lol they got a bit better thru the years. but back them people had talent and didn't need all the distractions

  • Despite problems in the 60's, it was a great time to grow up. A great era of change, music.......

  • @SkyJamMusicVideos Yeah, Good thing we don't have problems now, huh?

  • @SkyJamMusicVideos I so agree with you. I really wish I was my current age (21) but in the 1960's. Everything seemed so amazing despite the problems. I envy anyone who lived in the 1960's. :)

  • @SkyJamMusicVideos

That's why there was an EXPLOSION of DRUGS!

  • LIP SYNC!!!

  • @70monticarlo

How do you LIP SYNC on the Ed Sullivan show? Have you ever watched one?

  • @nelson209ful I guess you would have to know how to play insrtuments, and be familiar with the tremendous amount of facial muscles and diaphram pressure a singer has to exert when he sings to be able to spot this as a lyp-sync.( I have sang, and played in bands for 40 years) But Hey! If you think it's real that's all that counts!!

  • Ori bazen benetako musika¡

  • I use to drive a taxi in New York city in the 1980`s and one day I picked up Bob Dylan and I was ribbing him about his lyrics and he told me this song was about him getting wasted one night in a bar and he had no money to play the jukebox and this guy came up shaking change. That`s all this song is about. He compared the sound of the guy shaking a bunch of dimes and quarters in his hand to a tamborine. Hey believe it or don`t, I don`t care, you wouldn`t believe who I picked up back then,

  • Hey thanks for the history mystery. thats very cool. Thanks for sharing that!!!!!

  • Fuckin' A! I'll never consider myself lucky again! Well, who could know it better? Unless he was putting you on, which doesn't sound like it. It definitely makes more sense than the death interpretation. But you really have to pick up Dylan in your cab to learn the true meaning of that song, don't you? Thanks for sharing! Anyone else?

  • @JackHauss Great song, I believe it.

  • Chris Hillman looks so cute and so shy in this video.

  • @pakleglia thx ; )

  • @pakleglia i did it on purpose to "get a bite" thank's for noticing as most people do not spell correctly

  • would be nice if some of you fuckers could actually write or even vaguely portray the English language.

There AINT no fag haricuts here. They were simply the great look of the time, and Clark and Mcquinn wore it as good as anybody. Mcquinn's granny glasses were and still are a classic too.

  • @3Rubee i fully agree with people who can't spell in english , last time i checked

AINT had an apostrophe in it .

i'm very english , glass houses et cetera.

it would be nice if some of you fuckers could spell it correctly.

  • made a dumb-ass-point by italizing AINT with no apostrophe.. Still nice to have a response back in ANY form of gutteral english language.

Maybe best as Pacino said...WHOOOOO-AHHHH" Bite me.

  • @3Rubee thankyou. i'm very well versed in english as i am english & intelligent.

i do agree that the grammer is terrible on this site .

as sir anthony hopkins does "bite me"

  • hahahahah they guy at start

  • un grande david crosby¡¡¡¡¡¡ hic¡¡¡ ahhahah

  • wow what fag hair cuts all but that kid at 0:31 but its still kinda short and bowly lmao

  • i didn't know brian jones was a drummer

i love the "i promise to go under it" line.

  • @goonchistaw Thats not Brain Jones its Michael Clarke:P

  • @hatleman2 i know full well who it is , i'm taking the piss as he has obv modelled himself on brian, not brain, jones. ; )

  • This version av Mr. Tambourine Man is the best! Gene Clark is fantastic in this video!

  • David Crosby looks so young.

  • my opinino i like bob dylans better

  • @Maper555 no problem with that.

    this is a pop song.

    dylans not.

  • lol haha ya nice wigs

ba ba ba byrd byrd byrd, byrd is the word lolol

  • Are they used heavyfucked wigs?

  • Im high ... on L.S.D

  • Live drums would have screwed up the sound of the tape used for the dub. Its unfortunate but dubbing really was extremely common in those days and lots of drummers had to learn this little "stick waving trick."

  • Michael Clarke is adorable, but he's doing a lousy job here of pretending to play the drums- he's not even trying to make it look real- he's so obviously just waving his sticks in the air!

  • One of my fav songs from the 60's,

and one of the best cover versions of a Dylan song.

  • @lagerhound No doubt about it

  • The front-tambourine-man is the GREAT Gene Clark

  • the frontman looks like my father ah..

  • Isn't it great how Hal Blaine played to Mike Clarke's style on this track? A testament to the talent of both drummers.

  • Great version of Bob Dylan´s song!

  • The only member of Byrds you hear in the track is Roger McGuinn, other instruments were played by pro studio musicians.

  • i don't think i like the way he is peeking at me over his glasses!!!

  • They heard this song back in Nam.

  • This was David Crosby before he turned into a drug addled 500 pound walrus.

  • the drummer definately looks like brian jones

  • Barely anybody cheers for them at the beginning. Kinda weird.

    Why'd they lip-synch?

  • This is my favorite version of this classic song, and a very enjoyable video clip. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see it.

  • Read Michael Clarke's final letter to the world about alcohol and what it did to him. I've seen grown men cry after reading it.

  • man, Chris always looks pissed off when i watch these. i guess 'cause the camera's always on everyone else.

  • @metrostationrocks ;Chris wasnt pissed off.He was just very shy at this time and never smiled much.I always thought he looked very sweet and cute.

  • A couple of 'em look like clones of Brian Jones.

  • I somehow think their greatest influence were the Beatles. Must be because of the hairstyles, Gretsch, Epiphone and Richenbacher. lol Oh yeah, and the shades. Otherwise, great music! Except it was written by Dylan.

  • Well am I not right?

  • A California Band that used a lot of British Invasion Style Backbeat when they went Electric.

  • I love Byrds' style of music and I know they're a very important band in rock history but it is quite obvious that the Beatles were their biggest influence. You can tell it the second you see this video.
