  • Quality footage and entertaining as always. Curious, what is the problem with getting charcoal in the frozen lake (8:47)?

  • Anyone know what state they're in here?

  • It seems as though part 3 of this is lost. No pressure Nuttn, totally understand the constraints of your life and the project. Planning a backpacking trip for spring break. Better then going to florida and getting drunk all the other less intelegent students out there.

  • I love the Mora knives. I live in the town mora here in Sweden, where they make the knives, so they are like super cheap here :)

  • Those little shavings remind me of a cheese grater. Imagine using a cheese grater on a plank of dry wood and gettings little wood shavings. Lol

  • join the marines...This is nothing, child play

  • when you said you where going to use the saw you should have still challenged yourself and used a larger knife but i get the point of time and calorie loss

  • nutnfancy you are a good man with a good sense of humor

  • I love watching your vids in the snow. It makes the experience somehow more fulfilling when your traversing tough elements. Good to see you make it through each time. Keep up the good work man. Truly.

  • jesus, nutn that mora must be sharp, is there any particular sherpener you use?

  • I love the fact that these outdoor videos make me feel like I'm hiking with Nutnfancy and Crocket... Being in a wheelchair since 2006 I cant partake in this anymore... Thanks TNP for the great videos of making memories. These videos bring back fond memories for me of when I used to adventure.

  • Never camped in the winter before. I'm curious if I need any special equipment. I have a 4 season two man tent, -20 mummy sleeping bag with hood. I just ordered a silk sleeping bag liner from REI. Taking long John and usual winter clothing. Thanks for your help

  • i got EXCACTLY that realtree shirt :DDD

  • hey nutn! how about a tabletop on that mora!

  • Overall I like that.

  • Hey Nutn, at abt. 19:25 Crocket does a special knot. Try to do more filming of details. Love it.

    Good work, by the way!

  • Luv'd the DUSTOFF reference at 18:01.

  • Barking Spider @ 12:52

  • Squirrel shavings. Fry em up, dry em out, makes a great jerky.

  • it was what they called a rock hammer nutn :)

  • Man that looks like fun

  • Im curious Nutnfancy (if you happen to see this) but.. with the Mora knife, is that the Stainless steel or carbon steel blade?

  • awesome vid, many lessons and great ideas in this vid, crocket doing a top job cheers Nutn' bring on part 3! =]

  • I'm sure somebody's already said it but....'Double Rainbow'

  • Dude, I can't keep up. I'm 9 videos behind. Have no time to watch em all :)

  • "that is the COOLEST SHOT EVER!"

    love you nutn

  • What type of beacon did you say that was? Preon tube or 2 or what lol? Thanks! and awesome vids!

  • was that Mora bushcraft factory sharpened or did you do any touch-up, if so what do you sharpen with?

  • " That sounded bloody" LOL

  • i want to see you both smoke Salvia and record that lol

  • i love when you make these. keeps me traveling even though im glued to my chair. im with u on every adventure.

  • jeez im always looking foward to your vids really need to get out more thanks

  • If it was raining and soaking wet, you two would be running down that Mountain area.

For sleeping should really try out a Hennessy Hammock. awesome but expensive.

  • Thanks in advance for part 3!

  • @cyclist01222 Aw, that is very nice of you. Nutn is trying to upload it, but YouTube is being uncooperative. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy So what your saying is that its done and in the upload phase?! SWEET! Time for me has almost come to a halt waiten on part 3 of this series!

  • Hi,

long time viewer, long time fan.

Didn't like your mora review, at all...

I think you were biased,I think you thought it would be another small vs large survival knives 'inbetween type' review and.. I didn't like it.

I'm a large survival knive person myself (rocking the CS Khurki)

But i feel the Mora deserved more credit than you gave it.

Would it compete with a large, no it wouldn't but as far as light multi purpose knives with a bang for the $ goes, I'm mora all the way.

    Try again pls

  • @Xarcas Hmmm, he didnt give the Mora a bad review, did he? I did not hear that anyway. All he said was that it would be easier to chop down that tree with a bigger knife, or did I missunderstand that all together?

  • @SweGunner71 Nah he didn't but hmm, how to express myself...

Kinda dismissed it a little too easy to my taste. I've been a silent tnp for a while now, so i 'think to know"

when something is missing, paid more attention on blades labeledd as poor than on the mora etc.

Not dissing anything it was just my personal feeling as a saw the video, just like tnp reviews it was what I felt at that particular time.

It's honest in that way and I'm not taking back anything i said.

I call em as i see em

  • What brand of knives are those?

  • @Hendriestern looked ilke a mora

  • wonder how that bivy sack held up in the winter cold, you end up having a roommate in your tent before the night was up nutn?

  • Awesome stuff. Cant wait to see the rest of this series. Thanks!

  • Wtf. Cliff-hanger in a you tube vid! Post part three so we can see the fire. Lol

  • Such a great adventure vid.. love it!

  • I'm dyin here man...more moonscape!

  • Dudeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! War and Peace is shorter!! lol Did Nut'n and Crockett freeze to death? Did it come to blows over Nut'ns flatulents? Did they stay friends? Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of Moonscape Backpacking.....

  • You know whats kind of funny. When we started watching TV online a few years ago. Like Nutnfancy, Bear Grylls, Ray Mears etc. etc. We just went ahead and canceled Dish Network all together. Now we have MORE money for gear! Kind of funny the only clean, informative, and educational TV now a days is Nutnfancy on YouTube lol.

  • PART 3 PLZZZZZZZZZZ, :D

  • @pesarirooni62 Coming soon...work's been keeping me busy.

  • @nutnfancy ur the man

thank you for all the great vids u do :)

  • i would love to go with nutn backpacking

    and great thinking

i ve always wanted to just try to survive with just a knife

  • i would love to go with nutn backpacking

  • Where Be Part 3?

  • Cliff hangers! Gotta love em!

  • OMG DID THEY SURVIVE I MUST KNOW!!!!!!

  • Probably pointed out already: maybe it should be Time Strain(?) and Energy or something else as Calories and Energy is if not the same thin then two sides of the same coin.

  • a nutnfancy cliffhanger !!! well done my good man, can't wait for part 3.

  • Part 3!!!

  • part 3 part3 part3

  • when are you going to upload part 3 ??

  • thanks for posting this vid. I was thinking about getting one soon.

  • your right about the value of the filming ,another great vid ,i personaly value every vid you make on hiking and the gear you test ,i like to watch your gun vids to as we in the uk get to see what we are missing out on ,thanks buddy .HK45.

  • I cannot wait for part 3 and see the fire going, which you two have so hard to get going. Great Video. Looking forward to seeing more...Keep up the great work!

  • Like i've commented before you need a hands free video camera that could go on your head I've seen some good things from those "Go Pro" Video recorders plus you could use it to do cool POV Run and gun and if im not mistaken their water proof ( =

!!!THUMBS UP SO NUTN CAN SEE!!!!

  • Your reviews are 2nd to none honest and thorough , Here is a quick little list of the gear you got me to buy b/c of your reviews, Spyderco, persistence ,tenacious, manix 2, native 3, ar15 ,ak74 , mini 14, ruger lcr, bushnell trs 25, cold steel spartan, rajah, kobun, anyway Iknow thereis alot more I'm forgetting thx

  • I'm with the crowd. can't wait for part 3! When will we get a look at it? I know.. I know.. I'm like a bad doctor. No patients =) [patience] <--thats my "nutnfancy" video annotation to explain [the joke] before getting blasted by haters.

  • CLIFFHANGER ACTUAL....must wait for Pt. 3.

  • You need a part 3, would like to see how your shavings worked out, seems like a lot of things missing,,still love your vids man, hope Allie is doing good..

  • For a second I entertained the thought of how funny it would be if someone popped out of the woods with a Werewolf costume to spook you guys...then I thought about the fact that within 10 seconds the poor guy would look like a porcupine with tons huge knives and axes sticking out of him. hahaha

  • Can't wait for P3! Nutn's keeping us in the woods without fire! lol Great vids

  • 40:29 What was that!?

  • Have you ever tried using a Sur-Form blade for getting really fine wood shavings. When I use mine in the shop it creates very fine curly shavings that might just be ignitable for starting a fire??

  • Man its quiet out there. There is not too many places that you can get the appreaciation of silence in nature.

  • Another great adventure video! You make a valid point about typical camping at a campsite, versus the rough, and tough camping that you do in your videos. You left a really good cliffhanger too! I am still waiting to see that fire get started. Keep ‘em coming!

  • I like the bag harness, that wraps around the front, Crockett was wearing around camp after dropping his backpack. What is the name of such an item. Not necessarily the exact make and model. I want to start a Google search for something similar but need a key word or two.

  • @ISOGITE Ribz front pack

  • @Cr0cket20 Thanks!

  • @ISOGITE watch the previous video Part 1. They say what it is I believe. :D

  • @randomtechdude Thanks for the lead but Crocket replied to my post about 4 hours ago. It's called a Ribz front pack. Researched it online and here on YouTube. This piece of gear is a more unique than I thought and has gained a LOT of buzz online. Can't wait to get one!

  • Part 3 ???

  • Ditto on interest in your food choices...something I have wondered about. Also curious if Crockett is rocking a Penn State hat...can never seem to make the logo out, but it is his trademark headgear. Thanks again for all that you do for us gear, gun, camping, hiking, gun rights enthusiasts.

  • What a cliffhanger!

  • these are my favorite vids you put out, thanks for bringing us along!

  • There must be one fat squirell up in thoes moutains

  • Please do a table top of those Mora knives when you get a chance! Thanks

  • I love these vids

  • Considering how soft and spongy people are, it's rather amazing that we survived a million years without technology. We did have fire much of that time, so that's something.

  • Gods, what a PITA! Folding saws and big knives rule.

  • ha what does ur wife think of u staying out?

  • I believe that bright spot about 10 deg. from the moon to the right is Saturn. I figured it must be a planet to be visible on video and Jupiter and Mars were not out and it was too far from the sun to be Venus. An April 2011 sky chart shows Saturn to be in about the right spot.

  • Just a friendly note & I don't mean to patronise. When felling trees it's always good to have a hinge. That way the wood is always pivoting & you only have to worry about fall direction. If you break the hinge then it's a whole different ball game, the bottom can flick out & do all sorts of crazy things. It's amazing how much tensioned energy there can be which will spring out FAST. Just a note to be watchful of- wouldn't want you dudes getting impaled in the groin by a springing timber! :)

  • God I love those Moras, so cheap and lightweight. The scandi grind is excellent for wood working and making shavings for fire starting. Really glad you're testing them out in TNP, think I remember asking a while back if you were ever planning on doing that! Thanks so much for the the vid. A LOT of effort but so worth it. That moon rise.. just wicked cool.

Next to your philosophy vids this is just about my favourite stuff from TNP. Looking forward to part 3!!! Take care.

  • quality viewing sir. I feel guilty that I'm getting all this free information and entertainment.

  • And the cliffhanger... will it ignite?! Dun, Dun, Dunnnnn....

  • I think I own that tent, but I'm not sure

  • That new font goes really well with your Nutnfancy Adventures, keep using this please!

  • Nutn, bring up a small pencil sharpener. Put a dry stick in it and get shavings off that way.

  • @QuiksiIver That's a pretty awesome idea. Im going to give that a try.

  • @QuiksiIver or one of his thousands of blades!

  • Hah, I thought a fart was comin' too.

  • That's a XC ski paradise. Cept the spring snow is a little cruddy. Be good about New Years. I'd ski down to that frozen lake at 7:30 and set up my tent right on it. Really nice place, love your video.

  • I hope part 3 will follow ;) great to see you guys out there doing what you do best, I think Cr0cket should be in every video lol, Keep up the good work guys and Veri! TNP Or Bust!

  • Hey Nutn how far of a hike was it from vehicle to campsite?

  • I love the knife reviews, I love the gun stuff. But most of all I love when you take us on an Adventure! Thanks guys it is always a good time!

  • For all the things i like and admire about Nutn, one of the top things is his ability to not take himself too seriously and daring to be a bit silly at times. Case in point, butt-sledding down a slope idea. And the same goes for the people showing up in the videos.

Life is serious enough as it is. Got to feed your inner child every now and then. :)

  • did they get the fire started did they break out the bic's tune in same bat time same bat channel ;-) (for alla us old farts) i got a gross of trioxine for this kinda stuff. cause hell the hi teck flint is even cheating use a bow and a stick if your a purist . hey anyone ever use those piston starters ?

  • @blacknyellow778

I'm serious. This heat is nothing to me. My town is mostly in 120+ weather all summer

  • That scene with the moon, makes me want a Blue Moon beer...great vid nutn

  • This is so awesome man. I feel super jealous. I used to go out as much as I could with my buddies backpacking and enjoying nature. I am not trying to make excuses but unfortunately my job, my various buddies jobs and families keep us chained to the city and not able to go and enjoy nature. Sure every few years we tear ourselves from our city lives and go out but I wish it could be more often. Watching these videos gives me a little escape and enjoyment. Keep it up I wish I could do what you do.

  • 2 hours and still no video lol... great vid/s

  • Coming from a Canadian who has lit fires in the snow countless times, you're giving yourself so much unnecessary trouble. Wood shavings? Just take a bunch of twigs over anything that catches a flame and you're good to go. Any twig that breaks with a snap will burn easily. Wood with 'sharp edges' is only a consideration in extreme wetness.

And apparently, using wood that you can break without any tools is better than carving a tree with a small knife. The squirrel chips was an interesting try.

  • @atomickaizer

    ya right

  • Thanks for the awesome vids. You've inspired me to get out and do my own hikes. Like today I went for a five mile hike through the desert ( 110+ degree weather ) had fun though I wore ankle weights the whole time

  • nice video thanks.

  • Damn awesome vid! Can't wait for the next part.

  • ooo cliffhanger... haha

  • this is the reason i hate Nutnfancy, he does all this awesome stuff that i would like to do but don't have the time to do. damn i wish i was there. lol keep it up your one of the best people on yt. thanks for everything

  • Nice job Nut'n. These type vids are awesome.

  • way to cut the ending off and leave us in suspense... "stay tuned to see if they can ignite those shavings, and now a message from our sponsors..." j/k love the vid, but seriously, come on...

  • Man does it take a lot of work to put these vids together? it seems like he would be able to string em out in the sequence of 3 or 4 days...No knock on the time it takes to edit. Im sure its tedious.

  • @nutnfancy I hope cr0cket20's pants are ok, lol.

  • i'm feeling a trip to kel tec facility in florida, maybe disguised for Mrs. Nutnfancy as a floridian beach vacation? do itttt

  • come on more, more!

  • Such a beautiful moon over the ridge. WOW

  • How about the old technique of finding two trees close enough to each other to wedge your deadwood between the trees and use the leverage of the deadwood to snap it down into smaller logs. no knife needed except maybe the mora to de-limb a bit.

  • @eatsleepbike Definitely a usable method.

  • No video on YT better puts in perspective the "video-bushcraft" info from "real-world" backpacking readiness. Watching Cr0cket put together his shelter/bivy just made me laugh knowing you had a tent. I'm officially crossing off my future tarp camping trip and replacing with a tent! This is just GREAT STUFF.

  • Has Nutn ever tried the Gel fire starters that military is using instead of trioxane? Opinions?

  • ok that was so not cool cutting the vid right before you start your fire!!! LOL where is part three!!! love it

  • I really enjoyed this one, felt like I was there with you.

  • agree with other comments that it would be interesting to see what food you bring along. great adventures, wish i had the time to get out there.

  • Nutn,

Awesome video. That view! Man, looks like such a blast. I really appreciate the calories you spend just to film. I was wondering if you might do a video on your food choices for these hikes. This is my constant struggle, bringing enough calories vs weight, not to mention, i want the food to be edible. Just would like to hear your experience. Lotsa love bro!

  • Very impressed with how you both had the patience to experiment in different fire starting and wood gathering methods in spite of the conditions. I'm also looking forward to seeing how cr0cket20 sets up his sleeping bag on the snow, I heard him say something along the lines of setting the pad down in the pack but not sure what he meant by that.

  • i cant wait to see part 3 nutn this series is funny, beautiful, and kool to watch keep em coming man love it

  • The thing I LOVED about this vid the most, is that when Is tarted watching it, it was at 2k+ views, by the time I got through it 47 minutes later, it was at 4k+ views. And now at 10am eastern its at 10k+ views. Nutn should be in no doubt about how popular these vids are now. So yea! Lets see part 3! Ending on a cliff hanger with a ferro rod fail has me chomping the bit! For my self, its all about the mag and ferro stick!

  • I dont think I have ever seen such a pile of pine cone debree...ever.

  • i've been wanting this trip since i saw the first vid! Cr0cket should go down on a frying pan and catch air ike u mentioned early in the vid

  • A lot of survival instructors talk about the "C's of Survival" and similar concepts of what you should always have; I agree that bringing the right gear is always best, but as far as I'm concerned, all you need are 3 C's to survive: Calmness, Calories, and Confidence. If you have the energy, the patients, and the will to do something, you can do just about anything!

  • Man that's some serious work fore starting a fire !

  • Backpacking vids are why I discovered TNP...

Thank you, can't wait for more

  • Man.. what a great video!!

Looks like alot of fun... but a lot of work at the same time.

It's funny though.. When I go day hiking I always carry a folding saw with me. Even if I am only going out for a half an hour I'll still take my gear with me.

Fire, shelter, food and water. All needed items.

Thanks for all your hard work.

  • clliffffffhaaannnnggggerrrrrrrrrrr

  • nutn, if your going to use a small survival knife. Why isn't it an izula???

  • @GodModeKing Why not a Mora?

  • @albi131 Its just the izula is very popular and i want to know nutns take on it. the steel is great no one can deny that but the size is where people differ.

  • @GodModeKing Mora is also really popular, carbon steel version is really awesome (stainless is a little less good), it's bigger than Izula and cheaper :P

  • @albi131 Yeah i have one of both, love em too.

  • Beautiful.. thank you nut'n & Cr0cket... thumbs way up!

  • OH the time between uploads kills me in these multi part series vids. Love what you are donin Nutn....long time follower, new youtube page.

  • BLOOD FART LOL, Ive been using that term for decades lol

  • I was just thinking when you were shaving for the really fine wood shavings. Maybe try using a kitchen vegetable grater!!!! Hahaha

It wouldn't be practical to bring something like that just for shaving for tinder I guess.

    Just a thought concured @ 0315.

  • big knives

  • nice video

  • Big knives and a saw.

  • instead of shaving the stick crockett should have made feather sticks just my opinion

  • great vids nutn keep on making them! C:

  • Great vid, can't wait till part 3.

  • Fancy your videos are like eating potato chips you just can't stop at one....Thanks

  • the suspense!

  • Every time Nutn mentioned the moon in the shot, i flash back to the double rainbow guy. if only nutn had gone hysterical.

    Great vid, awesome adventure

  • haha, seriously, when Nutnfancy said he had some bad news, i thought he was going to push a fart out too!

  • @goYankees19 LOL. There were several times out there where I thought that was going to happen.

  • cliff hanger at the end...

  • I love my Moras. Great knives for the money.

  • Love the adventure vids can't wait for part 3!

  • man i would go hiking anytime with yall

  • very cool. Thanks for taking us along with ya! Boy do I wish I could be on snow now! 95 degrees and 95% humidity is sticky hot here in NW Florida!

  • I wrote that and then I got to the point in the video where it says that WORD FOR WORD lol

  • I swear Ive camped in that very spot. It's glorious at sunrise.
