@Vanillarain03 I actually saw the bearded guy, talking about altruism and whatnot, in real life. I was at a crepe restaurant in San Francisco and he was on the other side and my dad walked over to him and asked if he was in Zeitgeist and he said yes. lol
Anyone who'd like a slightly more informal take on the same subject go to George Carlin speeches/shows on economy. By the way, totally agree with the message from this documentary!
planned obsolescence is a major part of home computing. Software and hardware manufacturers work together to slow machines down, requiring new parts and new software. Each service pack slows down your machine, each patch you apply to any software and the fact that PCs are designed to slow down over time on a hardware level, have you running out and buying the latest video card, CPU or adding more RAM. Applying SP2 because this game requires it, which in turn slows down your system. vicious.
again just pointing out issues which will most likely never ever change, that's the reality of it. you don't need planned obsolescence. People will purchase up to date goods without the need of this.
the other major obsolescence part of printers are the ink cartridges. . I got I cheap but high tech printer. . where I can just tell it is being sold WAY cheaper than the cost of making it. ..but the colour ink cartridges only lasted a month and cost $13 each to replace . and I need to replace 4 of them probably every month. Now I'm only printing in black and white.
When she pops open the iPod the battery was made by Sony in Fukushima! It's like mother nature was in on this class action suit against apple for their shitty batteries!
lol no shit companies do this. it's in their interest, no matter how corrupt, to make parts not, well, last forever, so you have to buy more of their product. you bought it bro....
Loved this video! Thank you for uploading it. I hope to reference it in an essay Im writing, please could you tell me where it was originally sourced from?
@ditoway Sorry, but things shown in this movie are facts.
Planned obscolenscence is real dude, and it is everywhere. Just talk to your car dealer or if you know someone who is a mechanical engineer or somethin, ask them. Printers and lamps are just the most commonly known examples. It's actually one of the most interesting topics there is.
"A chip in my printer stopped it from working and tech support told me to buy a new one. After I installed a freeware programm from a russian developer it printed again."
We are the last breed of the old america that believes in made in america and the american way!. There is a new america, the america of greed who care not what you get but only profit that lines there pocket's. I read an artical on yahoo just a few day's ago that made me sick to my stomach, in a time of high loss of job's.. san francisco had a bridge made in china, shipped here by barge and even brought the chinese laborers here to finish putting it up. NOW WTF IS THAT? AMERICA, WAKE UP NOW!!!
@virtual4desires yeah but it was the americans who first invented planned obsolescence. German engineers from VW even made a TV commercial where they made jokes about american cars who where built on the base of planned obsolescence. Even the communists made it better. The economic dominance of the USA is a cheat, built on planned obsolescence.
@CometBroadcast WAIT A MINUTE HERE! Why do all you people say that! ALWAYS BLAMING AMERICANS! in todays times its people from all over the world coming here opening factories and shops. The crap is made in china mostly so how does the chinese keep themselves employed? by making things cheap where they do not last long so this notion that it's all americans faults needs to stop!. WE WANT THINGS THAT LAST LONG! NOT HAVE TO GO OUT AND BUY A NEW ONE IN 6 MONTHS!.
Look up "Zeitgeist Moving Forward" on the youtube search.

This is what happens when you're on the economic treadmill, you need to run faster just to stand still in terms of living standards.
Infinite growth can't happen on a planet with finite resources, money is eating away at the world.
