Watched a good deal of these lessons on the single stroke and yours actually made me get it. For me, it was your explanation of making it feel like a triplet. Well done. Thx man!
Very well done. I play both traditional and matched grips. My first teacher was a graduate of Berklee and taught me finger technique for the left hand. Still can't approach Buddies speed. I'll have to try your modification. Thanks for your posting.
Another important thing for trad grip is the motion of the fingers! You will never achieve any type of consistent sound AND speed, such as guys like Vinnie , if your fingers are getting in the way of themselves and the control of the stick.
@2245DRUMMER yeah, first I learned finger control, and a year ago I got into moeller and stuff.. now I simply use them in a way that's the most relaxed :) keep it up bro! ( and btw, if you have any tips on right foot development, my feet still are my weakest bit..)
Good video, the goal is the cleanness and speed> how a person get's there is not important. At what quarter note tempo do you consider this clean and closed?
Thanks! Yea, I think it would be impossible to play just using this technique (the closest person to probably use it all the time was buddy or Jojo Mayer) I don't think people should even mess with techniques like this till they have good wrist control. After you have good wrist control, you can fool around with stuff like this.
agree. push pull should be loose and natural with less and less wrist turn as you go at a faster tempo. The problem I see most drummers doing with experimenting with push pull is too much wrist turn motion at higher speeds. It is a huge hinderance speed wise and most importantly takes away smoothness and natural, single-stroke sound.

don't let your wrist turn to mush...I prefer 'wrist control' to 'finger control'.
