  • @TheMessier im preety sure he was 10 but not that sure

  • was the stupid "offside" rule already in play during these times?

and why dont the FIFA just display the time of the game along side the score? just like the way other sports do it.. how to stupid is it to just let the time be dictated by referees who tend to be biased? you know every second counts in any sport...

  • @ajichiban833 the offside rule is what keeps the sport from becoming a circus. Imagine if it wasn't there, you would just have players sitting at the opposite end of the field all day and that means defenders would have to mark those guys... therfefore spreading the defense so much that the middle would be completely open.

the game needs the offside rule. and they do put the time beside the score... :/

  • For the record Clive Thomas is Welsh not English,Deux the next World Cup is in Brazil isnt it?

  • The two finalists from the 1978 final met 20 years later during the 1998 finals in France. Former Arsenal player scored one of the goals.

  • you may defend argentina, but the fact remains the same: Argentina knew what score they had to make against peru.

  • to me, the background music sounds third oriental, thrid australian and third scottish

  • 1978 robado!!!

  • thanks for posting this vid. i was 12 at the time and it brings back great memories. cruyff was abasent as he later revealed his family had received credible kidnapping threats. did they miss him? sure - he was the greatest player of the 70's.

so who do you think is better - cruyff or maradona? i'm english so i think you know who i'd go for...

  • I'm just pleased that you can spell. What a silly comment to make!

  • We can't compare brazilian football with argentinian. In my point of view Brazil is five times better! It is ilusion compare it. Argentina football seams more as Uruguay in style.

  • @Curitiba1966 Not true. Brazil have only produced one truly flair filled side since 1970 - the Socrates, Cerezo, Eder, Junior etc team in '82. This year both Argentina and Spain are more beautiful than a typically defensive and powerful Brazil playing on the break. Take away the yellow shirts and every post '82 Brazil haave been workmanlike and ordinary.

  • @tigerarmyrule true brazilian teams have always been overhyped

  • South America long overdue to host a World Cup

  • Definitely can not agree that in 1990 Argentina was the best. Yes, they struggled as lions. Yes, they did what seemed as impossible - knocking out Brazil and even the hosts of Italy. But let`s be honest - they achieved this by a great deal of luck and a clearly defensive style of play.

And I don`t think that makes "the best".

Just a comparison - West Germany was the same story in 1986 as Argentina 4 years later. Didi anyone say that Germany was "the best team in 1986 World Cup"?

  • In 1978 we can see the greatest goals of world cup( especailly Han goal to Italy). Holland was the best team of mid 70's with no trophy! Argentina deserved it in 1986 but not this one.

  • Argentina also deserved it in 1990 and 2006 where they were clearly the best team...but thats football.Sometimes you need a little luck to win your games. Did Italy deserve to win the 06 WC? Did France deserve to win the 98? Probably not but thats football. If maradona played in 1978, Holland wouldnt have a chance.i think we all know that anyways, the man is the best to wear the #10

  • in 1990? not quite...06 they were phenomenal

u're right- that's football-its the moment and the day

and france was the best team in 98

  • And if Cruyff would have played in 1978, Argentina wouldn't have had a chance. And so on and so on.

  • holland just thought the same in 1974 against germany..and they coundn't with cruyff included as captain...

  • It paid US 50 mil for Peru players! For me Argentina didn´t won this Cup, just was bought from Calil mafia. Its shame!

  • Well this was never proven. FIFA did a search and there was no prove of this. Arg has beaten Peru by 5-6 goals many times...why not in 1978. Say Arg did pay Peru...you really think Brazil,Italy or France never did any foul-play in a WC. Look at 98 WC final, were the players from Brazil bought? Sure looked like it. But then again France always gives Brazil a hard time.

  • But I think that in 1994 Ramon Quiroga, who was the goalkeeper of Peru in 1978 World Cup (including the match with Argentina), confessed in an interview that his team got money.

Well, I doubt that it was USD 50 mln,as the previous buddy says, I have read about USD 200 000, which seems to me as much more relevant sum in this case.

  • Look, Argentina and Perú have played twice before 1978, in both, Argentina scored 3 goals. While the time Argentina-Perú faced each other, Perú was out, they have an average team of 34 years (which is not the same have this age now, than in 1978), and Argentina had all the hungry for gloy. Besides, Perú hit 2 shots in the crossbar when mathc was 0-0. That was part of the bribery?

  • Stupid rumours like the one which says Argentina paid Perú with $50 millons in wheat, for the match, when this thing was pacted in april 1978 in a time no one knew they'll meet at second round.

  • It is not a rumor. We read and see it on the news and documentary about it. The money came from Calil drugs Mafia an money US 50,000.00 for some Peru's soccer players.
