  • Fantastic song performed by Gene (Duke of Earl) Chandler

  • what a pro....back when singers were more than singers, but performers!!!!!

  • Everynow and then, I always have to listen to some music from the 60s-80s because being a 13 year old in these modern times with this crap music sucks. A lot.

  • One of my favourite songs of the sixties. I remember watching him on American Bandstand. Brings back memories. His voice doesn't seem any different to me. Great vocals. All the best Gene from Calgary Alberta.

  • Excellent musical performance.

  • Is there an actual "Duke Of Earl"?

If not, the Queen should give Gene his own Dukedom. Class up the aristocracy a little bit.

  • This sure beats today's music for sure.

  • @SLB161991 for sure

  • I wish today's generation would care to listen to this music.

  • @davidppatriot I wish the older generations would understand that young people love this music

  • What marvelous theater! Am glad to see the background singers in the up-to-date version. The early ones showed only Gene.

  • he has no monocle now..

  • What year was this performance? I want to tell people that the Duke's still got swag even after _______ years. I know the original was 1962...

  • @leetdahl First Doo Wop concert from around 2006 on PBS TV membership drive. Sad some have passed since that 1st show notably Johnny Maestro.

  • Brilliant :) He's still got it

  • Look at him! You can tell he is having fun! He enjoys the crowd loving him, it seems like he could care less about the money they give him. Artists can learn a thing or two from people like him.

  • amazing...simply amazing

  • Hahaha THIS is what music's all about! Humor, soul, LIFE!! xD

  • What a fucking thing eh? It still sounds great after 40 50 years. I play lots of stufff like this when i need cheering up.

  • I'm only 15 years old and think this is one of the best songs out there. Especially since it's a great tribute song for Brooklyn Dodger baseball legend, Duke Snider.

  • This song is better than any love songs now.

  • Pimp Of Earl, this dude is an O.G.

  • @TheAmateurVid512

    You're telling me?

  • Increíble aún con el paso del tiempo, Obtuvo su mejor voz (excelente los muchachos del coro) ... Es mi opinión ! .. Me encanta la canción, su voz y su imagen !... Saludos !

  • 14 people got their ass kicked by the Duke of Earl

  • That was....FUCKING EPIC!

  • Every bit as good, if not better than the original recording. Thanks Gene!

  • A #1 hit for Gene Chandler in February 1962. It also hit #1 on the Rhythm & Blues charts.

  • A splendid singing voice not to let me feel age!

  • Magic! Brilliant stuff and I really hope there can be a revival of this type of music some day.

  • Pure timeless class! This song epitomises the 60's at its best! They don't make songs like this anymore and Gene Chandler has an incredible vocal range!

  • Was hoping to catch a glimpse of the Duke of Earl at the recent royal wedding. No such luck. He must have been taking care of business in his Dukedom.

  • @rwb60632 that's funny lol

  • @rwb60632 Fiefdom*

  • @rwb60632 did you go to the actual ceremony? (i know you wouldnt be able to go INSIDE)

  • Sounds just like when he originally did the song. God Bless him.

  • great to see good entertainers really enjoying themselves

    How it should be

    Thanks for posting

  • im 12 my dad would always put these songs when i was a little girl and now i always listen to them but i dont hear these songs that much in the radio these singers are real singers not like the people these days need computers and crap to make their voices sound better.

  • Man, what is with hating on modern music? Every generation has its goods and bads, and just because it was made in the 60's or 70's or 80's doesn't mean its better that today's music. Just enjoy good music people.

  • @Bellairs120466 Today music is crap!!! It's not music at all, just nasty lyric's and filty trash.

  • @foreverinchrist1 There were dirty songs made in the past too. If you only look for bad songs then no time period of music was truly good. Try this, it's a song from a game called Civilizations 4:

    watch?v=IJiHDmyhE1A

  • @Bellairs120466 It's called "Baba Yetu".

  • @foreverinchrist1 i agree with what you say. Today's music if fit to be flushed down the toilet. PERIOD!

  • Nothing can stop The Duke of Earl.

  • The only thing I can think of when I hear this is big paw... Thats sad

  • The man has class . . . !

  • The back-up singers sound like the original Dukays; they should have been given some mention by Jerry Butler.Gene Chandler sounded as good as anyone could, 45 years after launching this number one hit.

  • One of the Best record Ever recorded and Gene Is In Top Form Here ! Thanks for Posting My Friend !

    TCB DANNY

  • Cuz I'm ... The duke of earl

  • I worked with Gene Chandler on Friday night in Raleigh. He performed this song and walked through the crowed.

  • @RISE247 some do . I'm 14 and this is my favorite

  • How can anyone not LOVE this song and these guys? Timeless & Classic!

  • @PaulieDi I hate this song because he's black... lol

  • Its sad how in today's society no one appreciates great music like this anymore.

  • All class, pure and total class.

  • the black host sounds like bubba from sanford and son

  • I am soooooooooooooooo happy I grew up in the 50's and 60's in the San Fernando Valley and Van Nuys Ca. There is nothing nowdays to even come close to

this music and cruising VAN NUYS BLVD on friday and saturday nites!!!! Nothing like it anymore but I still have a bad ass stereo today. I'm 60 now and my wife says I should act it. WHAT??? I don't think so Woman, you stay home if you don't like my music!! And most times she does! How great is that??????

  • Hey, he is the Duke of Earl! Does he like Cypress Hill?

  • Logging in from New Zealand. Great vid. Thanks for the memories!

  • The duke is king!!

  • What program is this video from?

  • I love this song. great great great

  • OUTSTANDING!!! Thank you for posting!!

  • Music now is a toilet flush. I refuse to listen to that crap. Me and my fiance ride to the oldies all day! The only person who has the voice and soul right now, singing wise is Adele. But, this music is timeless and we will always have it.

  • @sunsetmj1978 Completely agreed! But dont forget Amy Winehouse and Duffy!

  • @sunsetmj1978 Yeah, it killed me when a few years ago the Oscar winning song was "It's Hard Out There for a Pimp." Can you imagine anyone saying ten years from now, "Honey, they're playing our song?"

  • @sunsetmj1978 i agree for the most part, but check out the gaslight anthem. they've got soul, talent, and swagger to share.

  • @sunsetmj1978

Try Paolo Nutini, too. His song 'Autumn', 'No Other Way' or 'Northern Skies'.

  • @sunsetmj1978 you know, i was born in 1999, but, i stand out from most people of my age because... I HATE MODERN MUSIC!! i like classic rock, reggae, and obviously, this genre.

  • @benjiboypoo no offense, man, but music is subjective. it doesn't really matter if you like modern, oldies, classic rock, reggae, etc.

  • @aenimalogy i was just saying...keep your pop music in your punk pants...

  • @benjiboypoo heh, now who says I like punk?

  • @benjiboypoo I also stoodout when I was your age for that same reason! I STILL standout! When my friends are playing Ke$ha I'm playing this type of music lol!

  • @countryrockstar2008 yeah, i dont like the age we live in. all this pop and hip hop and rap, and what people call rock these days is awful. there are exceptions though. i like ceelo green, sean kingston was ok until he sang fire burning. adele is great, and i loved michael jackson.

  • I played this song a thousand times when I was a kid and it came out. There was a record store that gave me a free record every time I notified them that a song was going to be hit (so they would be ahead of the game when ordering records). This was the very first song I told them about. When I heard it on the radio, I said "The Duke of Earl is going to be a major hit." They ordered it, and I got my free record.

  • I love his swag

  • Coolest of all time, the Duke of Earl!

  • This was the #1 single in the US when my mom was born! Sweet. My mom is lucky

  • Strut your stuff honey!!!! Love this song

  • I will be seeing him this summer at the Melody Tent Cape Cod. Back when music was music!

    Doo-wop Forever!!!

  • Nothing can stop the Duke of Earl!

  • goooood shit !

  • lovely and relaxing music... i really love this kind of music....so cool! i will share this on my fb

  • Yes..this is the song Cypress Hill sampled "Hand on the pump"

  • I didn't notice this until I put my headphones on, but that trumpet part towards the end is catchy as fuck. Great performance.

  • i like the chorus more than the words

  • 14 people prefer listening to the voices in their heads...........

  • Nothing better than THE DUKE OF EARL!!!

  • someone should shoot this annoying nigger

  • @streetfightermatt someone should shoot your motherfuckin ass,one less racist we'll have to worry about.

  • @bluricane lol anyone is welcome to try mate, but I'm too hardcore of a cracker to die :D have a good day nigger :D

  • @streetfightermatt I would love to see you say that shit to my face,it's amazing what you motherfuckers say behind a computer that you wouldn't say to someone's face. You have no fuckin balls, stay behind your computer you fuckin coward,no one is immune to death especially you.

  • @bluricane lol muthafucka bitchass nigger!! Just reading your msg now.. It's amazing what YOU niggers can say BACK to a hardcore white boy like myself, damn niggers in the streets can't even look at me in the eyes, and here you are running your mouth over youtube?? Muthafucka i kill you!!!

  • @streetfightermatt retarded shit head, you think that your fucking hardcore. bitch the only thing hard about you is your dick when you see your mother so sit down and shut the fuck up and if you hate blacks soo much why are you here? P.S. your probably a jew

  • @streetfightermatt shut up man. You need to show some respect to Mr Chandler. If you do not like him just because he is black, then go to HELL. That is where you belong. Now please do not come back to this page and troll your rubbish to people who really love good music and careless about race.

  • @bluricane I said that shit two months ago and yor'e just now replying you FAGGOT!! i'm not some internet badass,I have an idea fly over here to america right here straight to Desoto,TX.The same shit I say on Youtube I'll say to your face, you white racist motherfuckers are the goddam cowards, every last one of you talk that shit but you won't back it up,I'll be waiting.

  • come check out my horror doo wop songs and subscribe to my channel

  • Damnnn he still got it, what a fuckin true legend

  • I wish black singers of today would give up rap and sing like these 60's black artists. I would give anything if they would sing like this. Such class and nothing of that trashy stuff we have today.

  • @calihartley2010 i wish white people would shut the fuck up.

  • @DeportAnchorBabies and your name says 'Deport Anchor babies' why? because they take away all your food stamps and benefits which you think blacks should receive. You are the one who should shut up.

  • @calihartley2010 Nice try but there are more whites on foodstamps than blacks

whites should shut up and go bitch on about the "

good ol days" on their own videos

  • @DeportAnchorBabies Yeah and look at all the audience. mostly all are white. So shut up and go back to Africa

  • @calihartley2010 Yeah cultureless whites love our music

you should head back to europe

  • @DeportAnchorBabies the good ol days when we used niggers as slaves.. ahhhhhhhhh my ancestors had it good :)

  • @streetfightermatt hahaha australian whites are descendants of unwanted criminals from britian

lmao!!!!!!!! yup the good ol days indeed

  • @calihartley2010 - Its the record companies, the media and the public to blame. PLENTY of artists out there if you look.

  • @ydrol yeah and i agree it is the media and the recording companies that like to sell trash. but no matter what anyone says nobody can sing like these oldies.

  • @calihartley2010 I agree with you. Black singers are talented and need to give up the rap crap. What ever happened to good clean music like this.

  • @calihartley2010 I agree

  • Comment removed

  • @calihartley2010 you mean like jackie wilson?...when he sings think twice (version x) with laverne baker?

  • @MrJdvance well I just heard the song. I could not hear a word of it, but if that was a X version of it, then it was not obvious like today's music. So if youare trying to get cocky with me, please do not even think about it.

  • @calihartley2010 my point was even people from back in the day could get raw, crude, and vulgar....and seriously? you couldnt hear a word of it?...really? its pretty clear. it's a lot of cussing....but its soulful haha.

  • @MrJdvance Look at the lyrics online like i did. i do not see one cuss word. So get your mind out of the gutters.

  • @calihartley2010 umm? i said look at the x version that is also by jackie wilson and laverna baker. think twice (xversion)...not the clean one

  • @calihartley2010 just search think twice (x version) and it comes right up....and as i said before. yes that is by jackie and laverna.
