Yes, becasue they have to run in the bonus game, I guess they didn't want contestants ruining their rented shoes or falling on their face on high heels.
Jim Hackett, who was the show's "computer operator", also was announcer for a handful of episodes! This one, however, has John Harlan doing those chores.
Cool calm and collective. He didn't even panic...he made it look soooo easy! I used to catch it everyday when it came on USA when it had it's game show marathon every weekday afternoon. Peter Tomarken is underrated as one of the great game show hosts of all time!
I always did enjoy this bonus round music. There's an episode with Maggie Brown. She was on the pilot of Second Chance, and a contestant on Press Your Luck.
She played this bonus round and won with just a little less than 1 second remaining.
I remember watching this at 11AM on my NBC affilliation back in the winter of 1989. Of course when I was off from school. When I was 6. My NBC affiliation in Philadelphia was totally different then most of then in the 80's.
I remember watching this show regularly when it came on at 3 AM. The ABC affiliate in Detroit broadcast it. What I did was that I left my TV on before I went to bed so that when I woke up during the night, I would watch it.
By the way, I was five or six years old at the time. Ahhh, memories.

The guys who produced this gameshow - Rob Dames and Bob Fraser - wrote for the hit sitcom "Benson."

Theme song is very catchy, isn't it?

One of the most underrated theme songs in game show history. I just love the music for this show. It's up there with Now You See It.

Was there ever a time where someone got a win in 1 attempt?

I know of one instance. The category was "Pretaining to Animals". His run only took 12 seconds.

"Wipeout" was on WXYZ-TV at 3:00 a.m.? Man, talk about a bad timeslot.

Wipeout was aired in Boston/Manchester via WMUR-TV. Sadly, no metro Boston station carried Wipeout.
