  • Jesus tap dancing christ on a fucking stick why are there Metallica vs Megadeth battles in a Rusty Cooley video? What more can you people possibly talk about that hasnt already been said 20 years ago. God DAAAAMNN.

    /RAGE

  • Metallica was the biggest inspiration for guitar when I started playing, and I used to love Kirk. But now that I've been playing for 10 years, I appreciate James' guitar playing much more! James has very well articulated picking, and his monster tone is responsible for that classic Metallica sound. He also wrote most of their music. As far as soloing goes, Friedman has an incredible amount of finesse and creativity. His unique style and tone will be remembered for generations to come.

  • @jongpilyun

Kirk has the worst vibrato in metal music history

  • O_O OMG look at his fingers 2:27

  • To culikhan: That is the worst load of crap i have ever heard. The term virtuoso is used too lightly now adays. Rusty Cooley is a great guitarist, he is a technical machine. He makes the impossible possible and with little hands no doubt. However to compare him even technique wise much less composition wise...hahah He fails in comparison to the greats true MASTERS such as Liszt and Paganini. They were virtuosos. He is a lick player thats it. Not genious not a performer not a virtuoso.

  • wowz

  • virtuosity is not always appropriate. it has its place but should never be confused with rock n' roll. rock is american folk music. Rusty Cooley is essentially a post modern violin virtuoso & about as entertaining, depending on your tastes. He is a great classical musician. rock musicians are more like minstrels, playing popular folk music that's all part of an image and a show. musicians especially should know the difference and respect one another. both are important and valid to the canon.

  • OMFG! AMAZING AS ALWAYS

  • you can make fast playing musical

    this is a technique demonstration

  • @Exoskeletaljunction that's nothing but music. don't watch if you don't like

  • No, the cover of that DT song you did is musical. This shred is in no context at all. He's trying to be like Lane too much and not realizing what made Lane, Lane was the fact that was amazing musically so he could shred and make you want to cry because of the emotion he put behind his crazy phrasing.

  • @Exoskeletaljunction i absolutely understand every word. emotion is good, this guy is just my biggest influence and i appreciate his skill. i used to hate it though. anyway....i know what ur saying, DT is my favorite and so is Petrucci

  • 0:23-1:09 thats all on the high a,at 1:32 he makes a sweep using it,at 1:52 hes probably using all 8....plus have an 8 string doesnt mean use ONLY the 8 string...you people always gonna say something bad about him so i shoudn't even bother but whatever

  • Yes he does, that guitar is tuned up so the extra strings are a high a and a low b,as oposed to other 8 strings tuned down with a low B and a low F#.He's constantly using it.

  • you need to learn the difference between a song and a technique video dickhead

  • yeah its pretty sick bro.

  • its not even a technique video......

  • umm, yes it is retard

  • this is a technique video dumbass

  • How the hell do u get technique out of that??? Are we supposed to learn something??Like what not to do

  • I feel like I've been being attacked by bees. And I can see some chicken blood still from that pact with Satan he must have made to go that damned fast.

  • rusty's a fuckin monster

if you can play 4 notes per string as well as this guy, then im afraid of you

    lmao, the arp @ 2:36, that's sick

  • yeah sure a sloppy emo is awesome to see.

  • yeh, u better stop commenting bullshit now and get guitar skill so u can realise wtf is on.

  • hammett cant even do half of these warmups. Stop saying bullshit to preserve ur ego.

  • i cud smoke kirk at 14yr old. How exceptionnal is he.

  • ok.. incredible... but its only bilions of notes without spirit.. my opinion.. dont beat me..

  • shredding is a pre-requisite to everything. Your not gonna transmit your feeling properly if you are not making one with ur guitar. On that note, i hope ull now make the difference between songs video and practicing/warmup videos. thx.

  • wtf, the frets are all bent...

  • Lets see you write solos to battery, damage inc, Unforgiven, tour the world over the last 25 years and say you are average. Its called songwriting. Hammett may not be A Via or Satch but his solos are known worldwide. NIce playing but nothing special here, sweeping is boring

  • ....no. Kirk is average at best skillwise, and sticking his name and "emotional solo" together is like sticking a plague rat to your breakfast. All Kirk has ever done is play extremely easy and extremely basic blues riffs with a shitload of wah and distortion on. Really, there's nothing good he's ever done.

  • paccman:D

  • Kirk hammet virtuoso? wtf!

  • I don't agree with you juankavamo89 .Steve Vai is a great guitar plyaer thecnicaly but most of his songs are just demonstrasions of his skills.A musician for me is more than just a skilled guitar operator(sorry for my english).A musician needs to be creative and has to make unique music that's not neccesarly virtuoso. The most interesting artisitic masterpiesces are very simple...

  • Hey guys, did you know that 99.9% of the people who write comments like "Too fast, sounds like shit", "Shred isn't music", "Do you really need to play that fast?", "Speed sucks", Etc. Are desperate fighting against metronome to get really fast with no success.

  • it's just personal taste really...I understand this guy has mad talent and skill, but I would probably rather listen to someone like Eric Clapton. Cool vid though.

  • DECI DUTEMPULA MEA !!! that mean in romanian ... FUKCING AWESOME

  • His frets are diagonal because he is using an 8 string guitar which makes the frets out of tune if they were staight so they have to be diagonal to make up for this.

  • His fret are diagonal because it's a fan frett guitar, it helps lower frets playability and optimise tone for each strings. Nothing to do with tunability

  • You both are wrong but your on the right page. Fanning is for tension. If you look you notice that it is on extended range instruments. It is so that the lower strings aren't on a smaller scale which causes less tension. Fanning results in even tension through out the neck with such a wide range of string gauges. It has nothing to do with playability and drawnacrol your just wrong on so many different levels.

  • Why are his frets diagonal?

  • A

    W

    E

    S

    O

    M

    E

  • Your name says it all! I said its not as creative! Ive heard better guitar playin that is slow!

  • I dont like fast guitar playin! Its not as creative. And sounds crap alotta da time.

  • oh my fuking god, that has got to be break the boundaries of the human limit I mean come on dude thats fuking not homo-sapian lol and I thought loomis was good.

  • i bet he had a pinky extention or stumtin
