This is a novel idea, and probably better than most expensive "High Security" locksets that rubics-cubers love to bump. The window is it's only weakness. Once the lock companies come up with a secondary retainer like this that is integrated and better looking sales will take off. Until then booger coming in on my family eat lead big time. So all you smart assed boogers out there take note.
Would that even do any good? It's when you aren't home that most lockpickers want to break in. The point of picking a lock, as opposed to breaking in, is that it is stealthier. How could you lock that from the outside?
You don't think this couldn't help women from potential rapists? Or I suppose they could break a window. But that wouldn't be stealthier, now would it?
yo that is a good idea someone else posted the same thing a few weeks ago the only prob wit it is that it only good for at night while ur in the house but most ppl wont break in while ur home but it is a good idea
You could just put it below or on the side of the lock and it wouldn't "fall down" and lock you out, and if you groove the closer ratchet more, it won't fall out and leave you open to pickers...just an idea
I actually saw a deadbolt at a 99¢ store one time but that was before i got into picking I went back but once they run out of an item you rarely find it again...
you, a master of locks, have a bunch of kwiksets on your house. thats just like a locksmith I know he has cheap locks on his house, and I'm not talking kwiksets, I'm talking dollar store deadbolts.
oh but your worong... thats not my house. thats a family members house. I installed this "idea" on her locks.
But... to be honest....I do have a kwickset....full of spools! lol.. with a realy hard pin code. up down up down type of thing. and if that dont stop them i just picked up some hallow points for my alarm system.
big diffrent in burglers who kick in your door cause they seen no one was home.. and its the perfect time..
then compaired to a burger who knows you have a certin thing they want, something they have been scoping for a while. premeditation criminals are the worst type. real criminals.
some one who would enter through a unlocked window is a spontainous criminal...the smash and grab type... I am talking about a real criminals who plans there stuff...they know its secure yet still try to find a way in/around the security of the home or business.
These people are REAL....trust me.. just take my word for it.
new age criminals are updated on locks and locking systems. picks and bypass techniques, they are not stupid.. I got to be honest.. while i was in prison..I met some of the smartest people i have ever met in my life. ...just just trusted to many people with there little secrets...lol even today in the new we are seeing more and more pick and bump attacks on a home. we are not talking high school kids..who may emter through a "unlocked window" .we are talking about career criminals.
and yes...burglers enter while you are at home sleeping. "CAT BURGLERS" and they are the worst ones!
so...rockinblack...useless against crime..your nuts..this idea does the samething the master lock night watch does. makes your home bump and pick proof while you are home. perfectly usefull...you just need to open your mind a little. this is about people's safety!! nothing more. and it is very effective and very cheep to do.
Thats bull man.. 99.9% of the time a crminal will not go through a unlocked window.maybe in your area... studies have shown diffrent, they enter everywhere..doors windows...skylights.. people think criminals are stupid or something, but there not! they do there research..
I guess no one her know that 99.9% of the time a thief gets in through an unlocked window? And no one will break into your house while you're still in it? No offense, but this is useless against crime.
Great idea, But I think I'd put in on horizontal with the handle down, rather than vertical. Just as a precaution not to lock myself out. Because sometimes you might have to jiggle the door as your locking it from the outside, which might cause it to drop locking yourself out. I know the chances are slim but it would definitely happen to me.
good thinking but.. because the slider lock had a locked and unlocked position i didnt think it would be a problem. plus the door on the right hand side of the lock is not flush with the part of the door the deadbolt is installed on . it was done fast.. could have but more into it..I was going for effectivness...and quickness... it was getting late.
i see brunos point and yours...and a way to fix that would be to bore the unlock position on the barrel bolt further down so the slide bar would sit farther down in the hole causing it not to "jump" out and lock yourself out of your house.
A security bar or rod could be used instead, but that's still a good idea.
