My mom came from a family of 9, and her older brother was killed in WWII (at 20) just like Joe Jr. She lost 2 brothers (at 45 and 60) as well, one to cancer and one to a heart attack. Her sister died at age 15 of a heart valve problem. This happens in large family. The difference with the Kennedys is that they were rich and could afford to take more risks with planes.

I heard that curse started while they were still living in Ireland and follows them all that time. But does anyone know why the curse started in the first place?

The curse started in the 1800s, JFK's great great grandfather died, and his great great uncle died, then, JFK's great grandfather died of TB after being in the U.S. for 9 years. I would have to say the curse really started to take shape, when JFK's great grandfather borrowed large sums of money and didn't pay it back and moved to the US

The story goes that the Kennedys were descended from Kings called the O'Cannadys, who constantly were struggling for power over their throne and killed their brothers for power. It ultimately resulted in Geasa, which is celtic for a really bad curse for killing family.

The only relation they had to a provincial king was on the maternal side of the family, the Fitzgeralds of Munster. the Kennedys were from Wexford in the province of Leinster. Diarmuid MacMurrough, the dethroned King of Leinster, invited Strongbow of England into Ireland to help defeat the O'Rourke's of Breffni who had defeated MacMurrough. The Kennedy's curse, which is really about plane crashes, might be due to the invitation to the English.

Joe, Jr., died in the war, along with 400,000 other Americans, so what makes him special? Too bad he did not live. If he had run for President, Eisenhower would have beat the socks off him, and we would not have been afflicted with the Kennedys.

Its not a curse. ITS CALLED KARMA. They killed lots of people from marylyn Monroe for one to that poor girl in the car who he let drown and didnt bother reporting it. Not to mention sponsoring the IRA who killed lots of people. Then on top of that we came very close to wiping the Russians and ourselves out with nuclear war from these egomaniacs!!! Good ridance!

@Anglichanen The kennedys had squat to do the IRA ever. The closest the Kennedys ever came to an IRA connection was that Courtney, RFK's daughter, married Paul Hill of the Guilford 4. Hill , of course, was innocent and later exonerated (see the film "In the name of the Father"). Adam Clymer's book on Ted shows how uninformed he was on Northern Ireland until the August, 1971 when an Irish woman in London harangued him about civil rights in Northern Ireland.

Now Ted is dead, and his sister Eunice died 2 weeks ago. I guess you can add 2 Kennedy siblings dying in the same month to the curse, even though they were of old age.

All right, call it an "extraordinary series of bad luck," if you dislike using a curse. People die in families. It's just that when you pile it up, like what is done with the Kennedys, it looks a little dramatic.

"The Kennedy curse" is just a made up lie by the American media to explain away all the 'accidental' and untimely deaths in that family. The real curse is that of the powerful evil forces in America that want the Kennedy's kept out of power, like the Bush family.

I was just adding a few more things because it certainly does seem at times this family is cursed, oh, I also forgot the William Kennedy smith rape trial in Palm Beach Fla. and Jackie Kennedy dying of Cancer at age 64. The list goes on and on.

Bbth of Ted kennedy's children, had cancer ,Ted jr. had cancer in his leg and had part of his leg amputated and Kara Kennedy had lung cancer . They are both now cancer free, Ted also was in a plane crash in the 60's and almost died, 2 others were killed, also Joseph Kennedy jr. and David Kennedy' and David's girlfriend Pam Kelly were driving recklessly in Joe Jr.s jeep and it flipped paralyzing Pam Kelly for life. Patrick Kenndey and RFKjr. have had problems with drug addiction and alcohol.
