Damn, the writers of this show were geniuses. This scene sums up the real tragedy for some in the hood environment. There's so much pressure to act "hard" and "tough" that you never get to grow and blossom. It's like a social prison. Lives nipped in the bud-literally and figuratively. Wallace and Dee could have actually gone somewhere in their lives. They had the intelligence and sensitivity. Instead, they both ended up dead.
Look at D'Angelo's subtle eye shifting when he sees Wallace coming back. That's some amazing acting right there, just a single look that only lasts a moment yet says so damn much.
The look on D's face when he left Stringer and Avon, he must have known what was coming. I know he expressed regret when he finds out wallace is killed for not doing more. You can tell he cared and it meant something. Rare to see.
seein the early stages of D and how he was about more flashy living, i thought that was his only flaw.
but when he talked about avon's ex who got shot through the window i thought he was telling the truth.
well i guess he was, but had no part in it. the flaw in that also was why would u discuss homicides u had or had no part in with little fish? that was his mistake and regardless, u cant do business with a man like that
D was one of the best characters on the show, he actually had a heart unlike the rest of those power hungry (Avon), and money hungry (Stringer) bitches. I applauded him for snitching...Fuck anyone who says otherwise.
You got it twisted... Avon may have been cold hearted and power hungry... but he looked out for his peoples... Cutty, D'Angelo, and Wallace. Why do you think D'Angelo was never killed when Stringer hated his ass the entire time? Avon cares alot about his reputation, but in the end, understands how to commend respect. You hear dudes talk about Avon/Stringers name on the streets? Not that bitch ass Marlo.
@jaredowty I like D too, but he never actually snitched. If he did snitch, he would be walking around a free man right now. Instead, he took the 20 year sentence, and didn't give up Avon or Stringer, who in turn killed him. In hindsight ya he should have snitched.
@cs00024 D wasn't real he was fake as hell. In the first episode he lied to Shardene sayin the he's Avon right hand. Then he lied to the pit crew about shooting a girl.
Aw man I didn't notice this the first time I watched this show, but look from 2:35 to 2:44 at the look on D'Angelo's face. You can see as happy as he was to see Wallace, that he wasn't happy to see him as well. He knew Wallace showing back up most likely meant his end. D'Angelo was a good man, and that is some very good acting. This show was GREAT!

The scene where D'Angelo sees Wallace come back is almost as sad as when Poot and Bodie actually do him in. You can just see in his eyes, the disappointment in how stupid Wallace is, and how sad he is knowing what's probably going to happen.
I'm not black and I kno this is just a show and all.. I'm Mexican and my favorite relatable character is that vato Bodie.. He died a soldier borderline of dry snitchin, i wish his character lasted longer.. Lasted longer than Wallace n D.. After Bodie got caught, Poot left the game n was workin' at that generic ass foot locker store right?
@ThatFire9oNe6 no man Poot was still slanging . I agree with you Bodie was the best character of the wire. I would have been cool to see bodie try to get some people that hated marlo like he did and went to war with marlo and his people
Wallace was a sweet, intelligent, honest person who was confronted with the bitter reality of what people he answered to got up to and couldn't handle it. Fair efuckingnough.
Wallace and D were two of my favourite characters in the first season of The Wire...their deaths were completely unnecessary.
D'Angelo had come to terms with what he'd done and the fact that he had to do time because of it. He just wanted to be left alone with his thoughts.
If he was intelligent, he would have stayed at the bay. Instead he went back to baltimore AFTER talking to the police. I mean,...how stupid can u get?
D angelo sucka ass got what was coming to him. He was about to snitch out on the whole operation and put the whole fam in jail including his mother. Wallace b1tch made ass started snitchin and got what he deserved. They knew what the game was about, how u gonna be selfish and put others down for your situation
@videos2102 - He knew they were out to kill him. Avon had heat on him. And D knew that in order for them to get that heat off they were taking people out. And Wallace was suspect.
If D woulds just said Wallace was with a sick relative or some shit. But to say he out the game made them think Wallace was tryin snitch. And when Wallace came back he shoulda school Wallace on what to say to Avon and Stringer, then took Wallace to see them.
Looking back at what happened in retrospect, I wish Poot would have been more mature when D'Angelo spotted Omar's boy, Brandon. Afterall he is older than Wallace. Poot could have saved that ni99a a lot of trouble.
it's mostly the police departments fault that Wallace died. if they'd kept a better eye on him he never would've gone back to the pit and stringer bell would never have had the chance to kill him.
BillyDinero04 wallace did snicth he was gonna dime out stringer about that brandon thing to the police bt bodie and poot killed him thats why stringer wasn't able to be convicted in the 1st season
More I think about it, D probably sealed Wallace's face by refusing to bring him to Stringer. If they didn;t think he was a liability, they sure as hell knew now.
Sterlings used to be the bom when Jackson was the cook there. When Jackson opened his spot on Greenmount back in the 80's, Sterlings took a dive for the worst.
You right about that one there. Respect and a cool demeanor takes you far ya dig. Poot did do a stretch though and if you a corner boy you gon do a stretch. I respect ya comment though
it's cool to c michael b jordan hardcore cussing on da wire. then gets on the show all my children where he don't cuss. what a contrast. whether or not he's cussing on a movie or a show. michael b jordan's talent is superb. he's got a bright future that's only gonna get brighter and brighter
Let me tell you something dawg. When you're in the game, the game does not discriminate against you because of age or race. The game is the fuckin' game and it affects all of us, whether you're white or black, it doesn't matter a difference. It doesn't make a difference how old you are either. When you're in this game you have to be willing to pay the piper, or else you're going to get out of it.
You'll need a leap of faith to stoop to my level peasant, its clear that your the fool because anyone with half a brain that watches The Wire realises that it doesn't glorify the criminal lifestyle even though it deals with it so realistically, that's part of its genius
This scene is when i really began to like DeAngelo's character. He knew from the look in his uncle's eyes that he and stringer wanted wallace dead and, did what he could to protect him.
babybone954 d got offd anywayz. You can't predict shyz in dis game. The cards can fall right or wrong, but the card gonna fall. Like a damz crap shoot......50% risk....shyz...RIP wallace and D
D'Angelo was a good man and my fav character on season 1. D'Angelo should have told Wallace that Avon and String were searching for him, but he tried harder than Bodie did to protect him. Bodie could have actually saved Wallace himself, but he told String the wrong things when he was asking about Wallace's information.
No doubt, but the cold, hard fact is that taking out Wallace was the right strategic move for them. What Bodie told Stringer was the truth - Wallace just wasn't cut out for that life. And as much as D'Angelo was protecting his boy by telling Avon that he didn't have to worry about Walalce, Wallace did talk to the cops and give them information about Stringer having Omar's dude killed.
D could of done 2 things tell warn walllace of what avon and string was askin or go wit wallace to go see avon and string ...but D tried and stood up to his uncle
i don't think wallace would've snitched again. he cleaned up in the country & got off the drugs. D had the situation under control. stringer jumped the gun & went to bodie behind D's back.
D is a good nigga but he messed up here. He needed to be real with Wallace. After that tense meeting with Avon & String, D knew they wanted to kill Wallace. He shoulda warned the kid instead of that wishy-washy bullshit speech.
Damn, the writers of this show were geniuses. This scene sums up the real tragedy for some in the hood environment. There's so much pressure to act "hard" and "tough" that you never get to grow and blossom. It's like a social prison. Lives nipped in the bud-literally and figuratively.

D'Angelo was trying to save Wallace's life. I didn't see it that way the first time I watched it.

D'Angelo was a good man and my fav character on season 1. D'Angelo should have told Wallace that Avon and String were searching for him, but he tried harder than Bodie did to protect him. Bodie could have actually saved Wallace himself, but he told String the wrong things when he was asking about Wallace's information.
hustleking17 3 years ago 2
No doubt, but the cold, hard fact is that taking out Wallace was the right strategic move for them. What Bodie told Stringer was the truth - Wallace just wasn't cut out for that life. And as much as D'Angelo was protecting his boy by telling Avon that he didn't have to worry about Walalce, Wallace did talk to the cops and give them information about Stringer having Omar's dude killed.

D could of done 2 things tell warn walllace of what avon and string was askin or go wit wallace to go see avon and string ...but D tried and stood up to his uncle
bigtrunk90 3 years ago 2
i don't think wallace would've snitched again. he cleaned up in the country & got off the drugs. D had the situation under control. stringer jumped the gun & went to bodie behind D's back.
membersonly25 3 years ago 9
I always wondered whether D'Angelo figured out that it might've been Poot and Bodie who took out Wallace.
senorpachangaz 3 years ago
maybe he hoped his uncle would respect his wishes because they're family?

D is a good nigga but he messed up here. He needed to be real with Wallace. After that tense meeting with Avon & String, D knew they wanted to kill Wallace. He shoulda warned the kid instead of that wishy-washy bullshit speech.

but what if wallace would have snitched again aind said avon and string are trying to kill him..if they found out they would have offed D
