There was so much more to this hockey player than the eye injury. He was really good, and he would have been better, but the Milbury-led Islanders put the shackles on him. He was just starting to get HIS game back in Toronto, then Hossa takes a golf swing at the puck and bashes Berard in the eye. I know many say it's an "accident", but Hossa had flagrant disregard for his surroundings.

Bryan Berard is a hero. He went to my high school. We weren't friends, but I saw how talented he was then. Few people on the planet could come back from an injury like his and perform at such a high level. Respect.

They should change the Masterson award to the Bryan Berard. This man AT LEAST deserves his own trophy named in honor of his courage comeback to hockey. He's over in Europe now kicking ass in the KHL. God Bless him, he's a mucker and a grinder boy.
