I suppose you believe I'm playing GHB ( Great Highland Bagpipe).... OK, I'm TIRED of explaining that this is NOT A F***** GHB!!!! PLEASE! No one can hear that I'm playing a over-noted B??? Wich is impossible in a GHB. I'm playing an Asturian Bagpipe....it looks like a GHB because it's used in a Asturian Pipe Band.....
Please, check the info before dropping those comments, thanx
To the poster: Just a word of advise, if you find that you need to push your drones all the way down yours slides, I suggest that you get yourself some New reeds, or properly adjust the ones that you have.
:) gracias
:s Well....first of all...Did you noticed that I'M THE POSTER OF THE VIDEO? It's a fact, it's NOT a GBH. And by the way, I play the GBH as well and I have to "push down" the drones very often if I want to get them well tuned
Hehehe....yeah! Actually I've been playing around 3 hours yesterday using the metronome....and yes, it helps :) I'll probably record something new with the pipes
what a load of tripe, pipes are squealing like a stuck pig, lazy finger work. unsteady blowing, blowing like a wave machine.playing way to fast.you need a proper tutor.
Thank you for the advice! I'll try better the next time :) Or maybe, I should drop out, what do you think?....Damn, why the hell am I playing an Higland-look-like Asturian Bagpipe? Yeah, definitely, the net time I'll be playing a real traditional asturian bagpipe....or maybe I should try with the REAL HBP...
my husband is a top solo piper and very well known around the piping world. if you are really wanting to improve then you need proper lessons by a proper piping teacher. its never to late to improve.
I live in Madrid (Spain), there're no HBP teachers around....and as I said, the asturian fingering and style is slightly different from the HBP. My pipes look like a HBP because I use it in an asturian pipe band. Anyway, I'd love to master the HBP...so if you know any piper who lives over here, I'd like to know about her/him! :D
hi, there are many teachers to be found on the internet, and fact that you live in a diff country is not a prob, it can be done via webcam, or lessons sent via post etc, good look x x
ooohhhhhhhhhhhhh so that explanes the crossing notes and false fingerings. I'm better than you. I'm grade 3. and you have un-even bag presher and you dont even play real grace notes.
If you are Grade 3 I am a banana.Having just listened to the Astrurian chap and you he is FAR better than you and if you relly did think that he wa s playing the GHB you should cease playing your pipes now.
Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1920's trading cards of musical instruments, including the bagpipes.
You're right :) The Asturian Bagpipe reaches the second octave. Traditional tunes in this instrument usually are written with some notes on the second octave (at least till the F, considering the pitch in C) The way we execute those notes is pressing the bag harder and sutile changes in the fingering :)
Been a piper from argentina, down here we hear a lot of asturian and galician gaitas, so I always be tempted to do some spanish gracenotes, but I didin't know that you can get a sharper note with the GHBP lifting a finger and pressing harder, I will try that!
I like the Asturian pipes in the three drones configuration (one drone is fine too :D). Nice tune and you`re not an awful player. Btw. what`s the name of this tune? PS:Added this vid to favs!

i think i know why if you play it slow you miss the tempo. it could be because you learned it at a fast tempo

you might want to work on getting those crossing noises out (just some constructive critisism)

well, i'm not gonna tell you anything you don't know already; but aside from all that, that is a nice tune,i would just slow it down ever so slightly
Guelah1Papyrus 4 years ago
Yeah! I agree....but I have a problem with this tune: if I slow down it, I miss the tempo! :D I don't know why, I tried many times....

i cant tell coz the sound/video sync is a bit off. But are you going into a second octave... or at least additional notes by over blowing?

You're right :) The Asturian Bagpipe reaches the second octave.
