  • Reminds me of the Jason Bourne soundtrack by Moby. Awesome song none the less.

  • cool prog metal

  • I love the Espera chords at the beginning. It's so simple, yet so beautiful.

  • i don't even know what djent is! bitch please

  • "Music is a universal language, and needs not to be translated, with it soul speaks to soul''

  • they just keep suprising and they do it quite well...

  • my ears just got raped... again! hail to viagra for my arm hair...

  • 3:05, I zoned out at this point.

  • To a very highly musically inclined individual, the term "djent" means nothing.

  • @xDissonancex 'djent' just helps us associate this music with other similar sounding groups

  • @xDissonancex Sure it does. It describes a sound.

  • "Badassery"

-Engaging in seemingly impossible activities and achieving success in a manner that renders all onlookers completely awestruck.

Amazed at the definition accuracy for Animals As Leaders.

  • Never heard this band until now, utterly blown away. They're like a heavier version of what Battles were doing when they first appeared, only far more complex and interesting. I also have no idea what the fuck "djent" is so I now have to go educate myself...

  • @IdentMusic djent is musical onomatopoeia. it refers to the sound that is made when you palm mute with a really high gain sound, like meshuggah has kinda made famous. and usually it also infers that you're either tuned way down from standard and or playing 7 or eve 8 string guitars. however the term has been turned into a genre that is fairly heavily influenced by meshuggah, including bands like periphery, vildhjarta, these guys and many many others. it's getting a little over saturated imo.

  • Really digging this.

  • Lol i love how everyone has to write a post with the word "djent" in it to make them sound knowledgeable.

  • Cynic and Meshuggah had a baby! Sounds good.

  • interezante... kizás no tanto como meshuggahm pero interezante al fin

  • MESHUGGAH!

  • @RoronoaOfficial i agree but in correct terms it is progressive metal, my college have OCDed me on getting it right that "djent" isn't a genre :L

  • @MrLA7X people got mad when the term "indie" popped up, when the term "deathcore" popped up... even when the term "pop" became a description for music... and people denied heavy metal was even a genre up until the 80's.... Djent is a genre whether you like it or not.

  • just found out bout these guys all i need now is a blunt to chill while i jam out.

  • @BloodHarvest21 i love how you've made a typical mistake, djent is not a genre, it is a guitar tone :P

  • @MrLA7X It is

  • @MrLA7X If a large majority of people agree on calling it a certain something, then it becomes a genre by default. I don't care for genres though, they're pointless.

  • @RoronoaOfficial agreed, that's the problem with labels..

  • @RoronoaOfficial why do you call genres pointless? I really like genres because if I really like the sound of a band I can find others that have the same sound more easily.

  • If people want to call it djent, then djent it is.

  • @JEA21B THANK YOU. I just don't see what the big deal is. i wonder if people threw this big of a fit when the term heavy metal was coined.

  • omfg, who the fuck cares whats what and whats not what. Its music, there is no right and no wrong.

  • @hawthornetheused like your to band name hehe! hmmm btw. miss the used! i mean the very first album=)

I am out side of your window with your RADIOOOOOOOO=)

  • The visuals are amazingly understated while the track is absolutely penis hardening.

  • Outstanding album - grows and grows and grows on you. Outstanding guitars and the drummer is a genius. Cant' wait for the next one.

  • 2:00 YES MAM!

  • Holy crap, nice song so original, i like these blend of techno and dream theater like rithms.

  • What's the point other than trolling to mention another band? This is Animals As Leaders, who gives a flying fuck if it's like any other band? Like it, or don't like it.

  • djent is a guitar tone. not a style of music. just a by the way, children.

  • People need to stop comparing meshuggah and this this is NOT LIKE meshuggah

  • @MakinUsernamesSuck Not at all...

  • @Agentbromsnor in which case meshuggah would be a dream theatre ripoff, who would be an Igor Stravinsky ripoff.

  • enjoy what Animals as Leaders made for you, fuckin' guppies

  • I've got the ants all over my body because of this song!

  • OMG enough of this talk about Meshuggah ripoffs. They have inspired loads of bands, and that's a good thing, no? To keep the genre alive... sort of. And besides, the new bands have taken it a step further nothing wrong with that

  • Why does every band using different time measures have to be a Meshuggah ripoff? Seriously, fuck you.

  • @Agentbromsnor i agree good sir, if there is anyone we are ripping off when writing music its boethius who came up with the first time signatures in writing. you can thank the byzantine empire for the classification of our notes or "solfege" which goes as such "pá, vú, ghá, dhē, ké, zō, nē". so really we are all ripping off thousands of years old information. trust, meshuggah wasn't the first to do odd time. they are still using rules written ages ago.

  • one of a kind song. here. listen

  • I'm going MAAAAAAAAAD of this track.. help me...

  • I got here by meshuggahs new to be realesed album demo koloss.

  • fuck i cant choose between buying an animals as leaders cd or a protest the hero cd and i have only enuf money for 1

  • @XxmusixlordxX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I m telling you now from my heart man, Tosin is the man, go buy Animals as leaders i dont compare them with the others, they suck really bad for me,

  • @XxmusixlordxX animals for sure

  • @XxmusixlordxX buy animals, .rar protest

  • @himsaad714 RAR protest?

  • metrooiiidd /// samus aran /// my thoughts during listening to this godly music

  • The part at 0:25 sounds like morse code

  • it first i thought it was 8-bit lol

  • what's the music at the beginning?

  • @chairmobile Beautiful.

  • @endefilade clever. question stands.

  • @chairmobile probably guitar into a glitch program, I'm not sure which program, db blue glitch gives me similar results, i could be completely wrong tho ;p

  • @jaretthale78 wait, the music at the beginning? not sure if you responded to the right guy :D

  • @chairmobile oh, i thought you meant the beginning of odessa at 0:25 sorry bout that ;p

  • @chairmobile The beginning of Espera, from the same album as this.

  • mind rape

  • bty greenbeaner69 i have seen them live and they suck ass but the are a phenomenal studio band. And tosin abasi is an arrogant P.O.S. from what i have heard.

  • @palmweaver70 haha, tosin has every right to be; he's absolutely phenomenal

  • @palmweaver70 yeah i met him before a show and he does seem kind of stuck up but he's a nice guy, its just that 90% of the people that listen to his music are just in it for the "HEAVY RIFFS" and he likes talking to the more intellectual people. I'd be a little pompous if I were a proper black male (which I am) and the only people who come to my shows are rowdy white metal-heads.

  • @Kivizu Yeah but White Metalheads invented Music that he plays so....

  • @Rivendark they did was come across the sound first but technically speaking this is all distorted jazz, and you know who was responsible for jazz. in any case i don't believe one style of music belongs to one ethnic group. I mean look, America's favorite rapper is Eminem and he's as white as it gets!

  • @Kivizu I am not saying The Metal is for white people and they invented it....Jimmy Page ripped of blues from african americans etc....Same with the Neoclasicall metal...Malmsteem is like..OH I AM AWESOME, but if wasnt for Bach, Salieri,Mozart and those guys, only what he would do will be eating at McDonalds.I know how you ment it though.....You ment Tosin would appretiate some Jazz fans on his concert, but he is playing too "agressive" music for them.He should do like both type of shows. One

  • @Rivendark for the Metalheads and Second for the "Intellectual" audience in the club with less of dissortion and more jazzy feels in his songs

  • @Rivendark I guess so, and he has, but his jazz band T.R.A.M. isn't very good (in my opinion). But songs like Soraya and Modern Meat off the first album are just what his jazz fans would enjoy.

  • @Kivizu You're implying Jazz fans only like Jazz.

  • @Onimyst No, i'm implying they primarily like jazz. They'd specifically like those tracks along with others. I believe they are the most melodic and grounded songs off the first album, as opposed to CAFO and Thoroughly at Home.

  • @palmweaver70 They are great live, of course there will be a few mistakes here and there, but you can´t expect anybody to play such complex things perfectly every single time. Maybe they just had a bad night when you saw them, happens to everybody.

  • whats with thier names man? was thier old drummer named sjkbnv cjivdgf?

  • happy this band is starting to get more attention. i think its the fact that people look up tosin cause everyone always talks about his virtuosity

  • total mind fuck

  • ill as aids

  • QUE BUENO ESTO VALE !!!

  • I don't love djent to a certain extent because sometimes the rythyms make the song sound so electronic, and not as "fluid". This band however has truly amazed me

  • @BloodHarvest21 djent sucks as a genre label anyway. its a term for shoddy meshuggah ripoffs

  • @tuulenkoti I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. I see a line between djent and being a "meshuggah ripoff" in that djent adds a lot more to the music, Meshuggah has the rythym and badassery, but it lacks a melodic tone to it.

  • @BloodHarvest21 so true there are so many meshuggah rip offs but as much as there are ripoffs there are amazing bands out there

  • @BloodHarvest21 Yeh Meshuggah is more of a tuned percussion band hah hah ^^

  • @BloodHarvest21 all that djent means is the palm mute sound made by the guitar when the four low strings are played.

  • @BloodHarvest21 EXACTLY!!!

  • @BloodHarvest21 well, its atonal by design

  • @BloodHarvest21 I am sorry dude, but meshuggah never lacked shit...

  • @BloodHarvest21 And then Periphery happened.

  • @BloodHarvest21 I don't see any reason why tracks like meshuggah's style need to have a melodic tone, this actually IS their style as you described not to be melodic what I personally like more than AaL. Animals as leaders have got their own remarkable style, easier to distinguish because of their melodic taste. The trick is to get djent working for you so that you get a distinguishing djent style which is even more difficult in solely-rhythm based music what you call meshuggah ripoff.

  • @Jiladah This has absolutely nothing to do with Meshuggah. I don't know them very well but from what I heard it's pretty much just growls... Not my style. I love AAL though.

  • @BloodHarvest21 Yeah, I mean how gay would it be if Djent basically meant you were Meshuggah... Djent I find is a style that better expresses the musicians feeling that he's trying to produce and I think if you can do that without any lyrics I think people have achieved something here.

  • @BloodHarvest21 "lacks a melodic tone to it." <- ...?

  • @BloodHarvest21 - Meshuggah's melodic content is all in the riffs they come up with. The melodic content in their music is what makes the riffs "badass". Rational Gaze, Electric Red,Obzen, etc, they just don't use melody in the front of what they do. Haake talks about djent in their 2012 webcast on YouTube.Meshuggah's melodic concept is more abstract, but you can't say that it lacks melodic tone.

  • Amazing & Brilliant !!! Another moving great song guys !!!

  • i am loving the like to dislike ration, and I am betting the dislikes were either tests or traps

  • @spacegaiden ratio*

  • @palmweaver70 rush kinda popularised the whole prog scene, so it would be unlikely that they wouldn't be uninspired by them. Also, I prefer Moving Pictures to 2112.

  • for all you newbies to the music "SCENE"... Not to condescend because these guys are KA but... Rush was doing and pioneering this 30+ years ago. Listen to the album 2112 by Rush.

  • @palmweaver70 Yeah, that's pretty much common knowledge. These guys were probably inspired by them

  • @palmweaver70 Most definitely! Rush is iconic. AAL is like this generation's Rush.

  • whoa! first song i've ever heard of theirs and if first impressions last.. new fav band!

  • I like animals as leaders with out lyrics too, the music speaks so much louder then words ever could..

  • Одесса, ты ли это? :[

  • Tosin Abasi is a genius. alot of songs start out sounding like some trippy progtronica project and then it gets all metallic, yet still intelligent and just genius. amazing

  • /watch?v=Q1mZ0s_ZRPE&context=C3fe4448ADOEgsToPDskIjbCqyFjvdw2MRsjoq1xPt - check out my cover of this song :P

  • this is amazing

  • I heard this on XM raido repeatedly, and finally i just fell in love with the song and had to look it up.

    This drummer is INSANE.

  • @sicsicsicdrummer They're all really good. Tosin Abasi is just a fucking god though man hes so fucking good. Best imho.

  • me gusta

  • Whats the song at the very start?

  • fuck work

  • Uploaded the 11/11/2011

  • @slash92able You do realize that October is the 10th month, right?

  • @slash92able 11/10/2011

  • I can't listen to this music anywhere except a pitch black room, it lets the creativity of my mind flow, listening to their beautiful music anywhere else kills it for me, well done Animals as Leaders.

  • @taproot007 Dude same here listening to it I get so many ideas. When I am writing something for class i put this on and instant ideas bro no joke. AAL is the shit! \m/

  • smoke out and take a walk to this! hahaha

  • 3:05 = Boner

  • @destroyerofsenses ABASIGASM!!!!!! LOL

  • once and a while a new band comes along.! GREATTTTTTT... :))

  • does Misha still do the drums and production on this album?

  • @TallestFiddle no Navene did all drums and produced this album...

  • whats with the ellipsis? just a question, lol... Thanks for the answer either way. I'm loving this song, and this album is shaping out to be much better than the first. I think they're finding their groove.

  • @TallestFiddle no weightless was entirely selfproduced by AAL

  • when people say that lyrics would ruin the song, i shall just remind them of behaving badly with vocals (type it in on youtube)

  • it´s so funny that my prof of Musicology compared them with Brahms and Wagner :) I was so happy to hear someone like him talking great stuff about this band and other modern music xD

  • beginning sounds like pysopus to me

  • I had no idea that this was a song or a sample of what I was suspecting blarring harde core.

  • @wildkat700 nothing wrong with a bit of ye olde harde core :L

  • i was actually looking for odessa by caribou

    but this'll do

  • you guys are right I still think they should make some songs with vocals while still keeping most of their work instrumental.

  • yay! i'm actually live in Odessa)

  • @Vermilion7145 its a place :| ?

  • @11nephilim it's a city

  • 3:04 - 3:20 is just awesome. Any bands that have more blasts like this?!?

  • i love how for most bands there are endless amounts of guitar covers but for this band there are next to none.. love you tosin

  • Best fish tank ever.

  • you kids call this stuff "math rock" right?

  • @Chiboy00 no its prog metal (:

  • @Chiboy00 math rock I guess is anything with a really weird time signature

  • @Chiboy00 Math rock is similar to prog metal (what this is), only it contains more breaks in the sound, making it seem more sporadic.

  • i'm so gay for tosin right now.

  • Thumbs up if you think this would be perfect for any portal game theme

  • Could lyrics even fit in anywhere?? it doesnt seem possible i agree with you dimanovic an Casnikful

  • Great!!

  • If there were lyrics, I wonder what they'd be... Hmm does anyone ever do what I do sometimes and try and write lyrics to this kind of music?

  • whatsup im hella stoned.....

  • Whats with prog artists and this guitar tone? Scale the Summit, Cynic, Animals As Leaders, Guthrie Govan, list goes on... Pisses me off.

  • @Hepatomancer Agreed.

  • @mikkaramies I'm glad I'm not crazy, lol.

  • @Hepatomancer It's also good to remember that being crazy is rather relative thing. :)

  • @Hepatomancer dumbest.....cunt....

  • @KMoGraine I accept your premise but reject your conclusion.

  • @Hepatomancer You just don't like Prog Metal, my man.. and you pissed off because of it? Just listen to what you like, don't stick around and commenting and making other people who is probably also immature pissed by you. :)

  • @DeathToNewbie I'm not too concerned with whether or not I'm pissing anybody off :P

and I definitely love prog metal.

  • @Hepatomancer LOTS OF TACOS!!!!!! 400 MAGIKARP!!
