I grew up in Muswell Hill in the sixties and early seventies. I was born in '64 and lived in Connaught Gardens - the Kinks rented a house down the road, and my mum used to see the girls sleeping outside the front door. Later, my Dad went to live in Fortis Green, and co-incidentally his flats were almost oppsite Ray's white Georgian house. He used to hear live music coming from the house at night! What I would have given to have had a time machine!
great footage!!! fell in love with this song the first time i heard it, Muswell was one of the first albums that threw me into the Kinks and I've never looked back since. I couldn't imagine a world without their music.
One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest albums by the Greatest band of all time. God save the KinKs forever, and all their loyla fans who have supported them and KinKdom all through the years! Frank Lima, A Montvale, New Jersey Hillbilly Boy aka Dan the Fan! DONT MISS RAY ON HIS SOLO END OF YEAR 2008 TOUR!
that "gentrification" you write that happened to Muswell has happened has in so many places all over the western world I think New York is a great example. Hell's Kitchen, Lower east side, Tribecka...they were all rough places in the sixties and seventies. Now...celebs and rich yuppies abound. It's because the wealth are coming back to cities for there culture and hipness. The people "without" are being pushed deeper into ghetto areas and rural areas. Money rules. God bless The Kinks
i want to live there xD

I was in Muswell Hill making the Kinks tourist last year. Really poignant!!!
I think this song shows pretty close the neighborhood life style, as usual in Ray!
