  • What's with all the laughing and background noise? Great otherwise.

  • excellent ads, going online to order those 18p cans at wm lows!

  • And the memories come flooding back...I'll admit not very good ones....Wm Low???? Damn I'm feeling ancient now.

  • lol at all the scots abandoning scotland

  • @vanhalen2005 i abandoned Scotland and swapped it for Cider and filthy cuntry wenches and ye know what ?I'd rather be in England without bigotry, without wankers who judge u cos you got an Irish surname, without tossers like Jim MacLean.

  • Somewhat ironic that in 2011 people in Scotland still have to drive south to get the best airfares.....

  • Was that Tory MSP Annabelle Goldie speaking on the first advert? Especially at 28 seconds.

  • That posh bird that says, "and to North America" at 28 seconds, sounds like Tory MSP Annabelle Goldie.

  • lol...great reminisance here....i also liked 4:22 lol

  • that was a nice flashback to better times..tnx.

  • This is EXACTLY what would have happened at my parents' house if I'd tried to record this: Oh are you recording this? well let's talk over it and walk in front of the camera

  • Is it wrong that my favourite bit was the the few seconds about asking about getting another round in...?? ha ha ha

  • Ah the Briggait 50 shop, one stop shopping complex. That was a massive great flop, wasn't it? Today it lies derelict and unloved. And yes that's Terry Lally in the Willy Low advert.

  • @shilley The Briggait is now back in use. It now houses many artists' studios.

  • Is that the Nesbit clan in the background !

  • omg I mind this!!!

  • Very good interesting colection of Scottish adverts, shame about the terrible picture and sound quality though!

  • tennents lager has never tasted the same since they stopped using thae cans. thats just my opinion.

  • The McEwan's lager with Rikki Fulton..is that Terry from emmerdale with him?

  • united bars were lovely! especially the 'golden crunch' flavour

  • this was put on youtube on my birthday 7th april

  • I could hear the ads if it was not for whoever it is in the background talkin' and laughin'

  • # There's only one United!

    # And that's a chocolate biscuit!

    # There's only one United!

    # And that's a chocolate biscuit!

    Up the Arabs! FTD!

  • When did you record this?

  • Ace LOL.

  • i kinda remember how bad tennants lager tasted and to think so many people drink it baffles me

  • aye, like rats wee... Mcewans was always the better of the two but sadly only the rotten one remains and Mcewans export is now brewed in England apparently.... Scotland is slowly losing it's identity, unfortunately...

  • yea sure one of the most profound cutural identities i can think of is disappearing. Havn't you anything better to define your purpose?

  • I'm on the hunt for the milk advert that had Simple Minds 'Don't You, Forget About Me' as the backing track. Can't find it anywhere. Someone please post....

  • oh good times presto ,wmlow asda , *sighs * tesco gonna take over world u know !

  • The United advert is the best!

Do you know what? Eye am verie delitid to eet younighted!

  • Ah!v I remeber Wm Low Tesco taken over Wm Low 2/9/1994. If I remember correctly. Thanks for uploading

  • Its so good to hear MacKechnies‏ rhyme 'salami' with 'bananny' after all these years.

    Ha.

  • these are barry. Does anyone have the glens hutchinson robertsons and Stepek ads that used to run?

  • AHH biscuts .Did they no come in ,in blue and orange?

  • I loved United bars as a child. I preferred them to Trio bars. Does anyone remember McVities Sport bars.

  • Aye, I remember. It opened February 1986 and closed only two years later. A poor affair compared with St Enoch's, Buchanan Galleries, Parkhead Forge, etc...

  • The Briggait failed miserably despite this advertising campaign and is still boarded up awaiting a purchase 20 years on.

  • Oh, I see... youtube posted that, but wouldn't post "think beyond the box".

Fine. That comment below was in no way a reference to United Airlines flights crashing into ppls faces.

    Och eye, laddy

  • This commercial makes me piss myself laughing. Firt off there's the whole "United" thing, then of course it reminds of that other United commercial "My name is Stan, and I'm a fan, and I'm delighted to have United".

Funny... especially when viewed in context with your forensic psychiatrist

  • No tennants piss ad would make me want to drinkthat shit.

  • Those old Tennants Lager cans really put you in the mood for one. The design tricks the mind into thinking that there's actually something nice inside the can.

  • Oh, Oh, A Lager...thank god for that, I wondered what you meant ROFLMAO!!!!!!

  • I WANT A UNITED BISCUIT!!!!!

  • Hi MikeyManchester - not bitter mate - just a casual observer which, i guess from your acid response, you are not. That's okay. I suppose if I knew a load of stuff about supermarkets I'd be dying to tell loads of people too...enjoy yourself.

  • I wasn't actually "dying" to tell people I was asked about it so I decided to put it on the post. You are right about one thing though I am not a casual observer I genuingly use Youtube to find things and to use them if necessary, with posters permission. Though you are wrong about me having an acid response. Have a good day

  • I am having a wonderful day. It's due to the fact that I'm not too uptight about supermarkets mate. You take it easy now. Merry Christmas.

  • It's good to have knowledge and all that but does anyone think MikeyManchester knows WAY TOO MUCH about Safeway/Tesco/Wm Low?? Isn't that the actress Terri Lally at the end of the Wm Low ad? BTW I'll eat my hat if that ISN'T Tony Christie singing 'This is our lager, our Tennents Lager' and I don't even own a hat - I'll have to go and buy one and then eat it.

  • well considering I studied retail I think I have the right to share that knowledge with others and it seems others were keen to know as they personally contacted me. If you don't like it then move on or are you just BITTER?

  • Hi MikeyManchester - Not bitter mate, just a casual observer. I see from your reply that you're not quite as casual. That's okay. I suppose if I knew a lot about supermarkets I'd be dying to tell loads of people too...enjoy yourself.

  • Yeah, looks like Terri Lally

  • I loved United biscuits

  • is that Tony Christie singing the Tennants lager ad?

  • In short. Yes.

  • (In short, yes.. it IS Tony Christie on the tennent's ad)

  • WILLIAM LOW pmsl god takes me back and when safeway was Presto my god. thanx for the video lol

  • Actually Safeway was part of the Argyll Group which also had fascia names of Lo-Cost (and took over Cordon Bleu Freezer Centres and rebranded as Lo-Cost), Presto came about and Lo-Cost was sold off to Co-Op who kept the brand breifly by this time Argyll became Safeway and rebranding of all Prestos became Safeway fascia, which as we all know now became Wm Morrison

  • Wishaw Tesco is still the same size as it was as Wm Low & Craigmarloch Near Cumbernauld doubled its size in 1999

  • There are quite a few Tesco stores still in the Wm Low format both In scotland and in england, though most which av no expansion potential are normally sold off to likes of Co-Op, others have had frontal redevelopment to Tescos format

  • The Tesco store in Banff, Aberdeenshire, is still the same size as it was as Wm. Low, the only thing they've done is removed the deli counter and moved everything round (though this was only in the past year, for ages it was kept the same)

  • Wm Low was bought by Tesco in 1995. Both in Scotland and In England, Though alot of Wm Low's modern trademark stores have been altered in line with Tesco's format. I worked at the Montrose Wm Low/Tesco on Western Road.

  • was these adds done in the pics? just saw people walking by the screen and people laughing lol

  • William Low phased out of Scotland in 1995 & It was bought over by Tesco.

  • Fantastic!! Where was this shot?!! It must have been shot recently. Somebody in the crowd shouted what I was thinking - "William Low!! It makes me feel so old!!"

Looks like a good night out!! I love to to wallow!

  • LOL, the United advert had an English accent in England and a Scottish accent in Scotland.

  • OMG!!!! i was 4 when these were originally out and i remember them - think ive just discovered my earliest memory is of rikki fulton selling mcewans! wow! :D

  • good ads.

  • Wm Low stores are now Tesco
