  • thank you for uploading this video... learned A LOT!

  • @iLOVENATURE2011 Thats for saying that!

  • A 100 Watt Solar Panel is priced at about $300 - it's too high.

Your Only Option is to Build You own Solar Panels

There is an Engineer from Chicago that explains it All

To find his web site go to Google and search for...

    "Top DIY Solar Panels"

Select the First Result (Skip The Advertisements)

  • @jonathoncrowe28 I want to build a panel....thanks... I will check it out!

  • Sounds like cool green technologies

  • dude your so freaking awesome and smart haha... your short ackward laugh is the best too. thanks for the videos their really helpful.

  • @dany2179 well thanks for the comment!

  • DC Light Bulb... WTF?

LED's are polarised... But not a light globe?

  • @onesexymonkeyful mine are CFL's.

  • @london1817 Uh... I'm used to calling them fluros. Not really a bulb as such. :)

  • Does your girl friend think your weird?

  • @nxadmon very......but she's screwed cause she married me! lol

  • @london1817 oh congradz. I didn't spot a wedding ring, so it must of been after this video. I hope your wedding was powered by solar energy. :]

  • @nxadmon haha...very funny!...lol

  • folks can save on the DC/AC power inverter by using old UPS from computer. Check the channel mrmoneyhustler for details

  • u guys should sell the whole kit ??? your like scientists or tweekers lol good job

  • @RodentEntertainment neither.....just rednecks...thanks though..lol

  • Silly! Tons of components to run only a TV and a couple of lights. Failed to show the number of Solar panels and their cost. The panels appeared to be in the shade, leaving the sunny portion of the roof empty.

  • @MyRepresentativeOrg He's got other videos man. It's a Harbor Freight system, like 300 bucks.

  • Good job brother.

  • @yzerman1997 Thank you my brother.

  • hay rick. thank you and your wife for all your help. i been looking for good ideas go start being more green. i have looked at alot of your videos. im about to put in a water system and solar system. all small scale so i get a feel for it. i dont think ill have any problems with the water system. but may have a few questions with the solar. so just wanted to say thanks and more solar and wind power info would be great. thanks

  • @yakslawncare No problem...I am here if you need any solar questions later on in the future! Thanks for the comment!...........Rick.

  • Thanks for showing us the update...

  • @cheapsolarpanels1 I need to do another one soon...thanks!

  • dude, you should make enough electricity to power some other houses in your neighborhood and the power company might pay you.

  • i spent a year at austin community college ( two semesters in their photo-voltaic course ) and im a master electrician and I havnt had the nerve to try it yet--from what ive learned about solar --your on the right track all check back in to see how you do --good luck

  • @hermancando Well...I am a jackleg electro-magician..... almost...haha..thanks for being great! You should hook you something up to your house ...no worries man!

  • i like the system your putting together--

  • nice start --keep it up--

  • @hermancando Im trying man...Im trying!

  • Awesome, I applaud you.

  • @Woodogg18 Thanks! I am trying!

  • Nice little system :)

  • @sendkeys thanks for the comment!

  • In 1986, I was in Houston, TX for a mgmt training program at Toyota headquarters. They had built a 6-8 story building and to power it, they had huge solar panels on the roof. Behind the building, there were about ten garage-sized buildings, inside each were 1000s of car batteries! Somehow (am sure you know how, I dont - yet!) this was the energy source for that whole building! Thought then, how amazing!! Think now: I want it, YESTERDAY!!

  • @terryliciareed Thats really cool...I wish I could go check out a place like that & see how the wiring

is done...I bet it was awesome! Thanks for the comment!

  • nice, just got a 50w panel, buily my own charge controller. will get some batteries and another panel at some point

  • @waheex killer bro.....what are you powering with it?

  • @london1817

well thats the thing. I have a log cabin with a dehumidifier running. It uses 230W and costs a fair bit to run in UK, so I will need a few batteries and panels to supply it. I have a 300W inverter. But I ma just experimenting at the moment

  • @waheex well sounds very possible to me....maybe get a wind generator hybrid to help out your setup.

  • you guys smoke alot of pot

  • @204lando Hey ...c'mon....just because I have one bad hair day!

  • Hey. Great video, thanks.

I am renting a house, but i want a solar generator to get off the grid as much as possible. My budget is $1500. Any tips for me?

    Kirk

  • @MrKirkleigh6 ...well....um..since you are renting...just get all LED lighting and use a lap top to watch TV.

take short planned showers...don''t use the dishwasher....do it by hand....don't use paper plates or paper napkins..train everyone in your family to use less and make less waste.

  • looks like saving some money and having fun doing it ..good job bud

  • @moecat1000 Thanks! It was fun and I am using it right now!

  • you should get a grid tie attached to the dump loader

  • @wellaman5000 how much are those?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @london1817 around $100 for a 300watt one , look on ebay for a =grid tie inverter its good because they put power back into the grid and knocks money off your bill

  • @wellaman5000 I will thanks for the help! Have a great night!

  • I liked the video personally. I think it's perfect cuz it's you. We could all learn to

package ourselves identically for the sake of the fluid exchange of information

but I rather enjoy the "before" than the after. It's a hell of a lot friendlier too :)

  • @chonesong Thanks bro! I had a fun time doing exactly want I wanted to do too! You have made a great point my friend....

  • I bought the 30 watt solar system from harbor freight, it cost $129 on sale, I have it hooked up in my shed to a 115 amp hour battery. My panels have about 6 hours of direct sunlight, which adds up to 240 watts of charging into the battery. This means that I can put another 115 amp hour battery into the system. I want to use it to run the lights in the shed as well as an emergency supply of electricity to run cell phone chargers and a small digital tv system to watch the news and weather.

  • @intrepidorator Thats awesome! alot of people have all kinds of panels and a huge battery bank then they have hooked to a lap top and a boom box! I am happy to hear your use of the system...useful stuff!

  • You ramble on, you don't have a clear idea. This video is useless, sorry.

  • You ramble on, you don't have a clear idea.

  • nice

  • Which power inverter are you using on your system?

  • @SCSITrib Its just an auto zone 300 watt ...the name brand is "prestone"

  • thank you i love you, i had my batteries hooked up wrong all day and could not figure out what was wrong, thanks you!!!!

  • @kmluddy Thats cool! Hope everythigns good now! I love you too!

  • Is there a good or bad solar panel brand? or its pretty much the same?

  • @djobeat oh yes, It all depends how much you can afford.

  • Hi, where can i find info about what do i need to install solar power. i live in a tropical country, and planning to a diy solar panel all over the roof hoping to replace the home electricity. the gadgets maybe kind of hard to find here. please help!

  • Interesting system you're got there for generating power :)

Is there a way you can use it to convert the generated power to 230v AC and "send" it in to a wall outlet so that every hooked up device can use it?

  • @bartgrefte its 115v here in the US. Well yes there are ways to do that.

  • Would car headlights be an acceptable solution for lighting? Could probably get them used pretty cheap.

  • Check out my DIY solar my batteries they don't need to go out side because they don't create hydrogen gas. I got a xantrax charge controller but I updated and bought a new Aims 7,000 watt continuous out put with a surge of 16,000 watts I can run my refrigerator and my small air conditioner. check out my chanel please solar freaks.

  • @shartne I have checked it out! I am already a subscriber to your channel Thanks awesome system you have there!

  • Yes, you will get 12 volts wiring the batteries like that, but you will get half the impedance. It is VERY important wiring speakers correctly to it's ohm impedance, but idk for electricity. I would look it up.

  • Well.. you could edit it better, and make a checklist of all the things you want to show. there is no in-depth explanation and nothing can be learned from the clip, except that it can be done, somehow.

  • @omadawn I need a guy like you to help me with this stuff...all kinda spur of the moment here. Thanks for the comment.

  • your extremely in-depth explanation/description reallllly helps us dumases!!

    GREAT VID!!!

  • @BBQkrewe Well I am a dumbass myself so I hope everything works out!

  • @london1817 london you are a funny guy I like you. your cool. you have witty answers.

  • @shartne I try....Thanks for the comment!

  • This video is great because it make people think outside the box about how they use energy....

  • @MrEnergyCzar Thanks for the comment!

  • have you considered running your power to an open breaker in your breaker panel instead of a long drop cord?

  • @221smay no

  • Buy your the same electrical accessories that are made for motor homes.

  • Where can i go to find a list of supplies you used in your setup? Like spec sheets or something.

  • @Creeps1371 Harborfreight . com

  • Where can i go to find a list of supplies you used in your setup? Like spec sheets or something.

  • This video is great. See my home energy stuffif you like SOLAR POWER. Merry Christmas Y'all!

  • @SmallWindTurbines Thanks very much! I will subscribe to yours!

  • could you hook up more batteries? would you get more power/run time?

i have a sunroom and would like to power the WHOLE thing on solar. not much in there. a few lights and a radio. i was hoping my eletric heater but i dont think thast going to happen!!!LOL

  • @mifan93 Oh yes, you could hook at least double what I have. These panels fully charge my batteries in a couple hours.

A few lights and a radio would be easy....a 2000 watt ceramic heater....dream on.

  • You can get a bag of 100 L.E.D's brilliant white light for $6.99. That's what I'm using to light my house. Then the inverter is used for the electric water , heat.

  • @frankt04 Yeah I like LED's. Thats awesome!

  • @Glen1040 Its tough doing long runs with 12 volts. My solar system came with the panels, cotroller everything but the

    batteries.

  • @Glen1040 If I can do it ...you can do it too.

  • which book did you buy to tell u how to do this?

  • @undekegamisou Mother earth news letter.

  • Youre an Inspiration man! the only thing i wish i knew how to even bigging something like this. GREAT WORK!

  • @studgamer510 Thanks. I said the same thing before I got into this kinda stuff. :) Thanks for the kind comment too.

  • I have been shopping for small solar set ups and portable solar for my travel trailer. I like your set up. I know everyone wants to hide the technology, which shouldn't be too hard to do later on if you care to, but meanwhile I think it serves a great illustrative purpose. I would just call attention to it with a little arrow sign that says "Science". If you put the sign in a nice frame, that's all you would need. <3

  • @chandramarie You should get a set up no smaller than mine for your

camper. this set up will easily charge 4 golf cart batteries from "Sams club".

  • How come folks don't just use a 12 volt battery instead of 2 six volts? I know very little about batteries and electricity...

  • Very Cool. Wish I were as far along as you.

You gotta do somthing about that bulk water heater though.

I have a 2.5 gal. under kitchen sink. Serves sink and front load washer. Also have a 6 gallon in bathroom, for sink and shower. Both 1500 watts, 120 volt. No more waste. Switch controlled. Only turn on when need. And, I think that with power inverters I will be able to use them with Solar or Wind. I don't have anymore 220volt circuits.

Great vid. Keep upgrading. Your an inspiration

  • @StMeade Very cool bro! I am going to build a batch heater soon.

  • is it okay to connect two 12 volt 3 watt light bulb in series circuit to 12 volt battery?

  • @Loyaldark If you are not sure ALWAYS fuse it then if it blows you

    know it not ok.

  • @Loyaldark it would be the same set-up as an automotive application (12volt DC) two 3 watt bulbs in series will be fine... but just like london1817 says, it's always a good idea to fuse it... a 15 amp automotive fuse should work fine... :)

  • my 19" monitor uses around 8watt in eco mode and I think I've seen 40" tv using 50watt. I know it's a lot to get a new tv but in case you ever do it's worth watching for this newer generation with much lower power usage. halving or quartering the power use really helps make a solar system more practical : )

  • @DanFrederiksen It sure does my friend! I think if they made ALL appliances way more efficient then solar would be easier. My TV is 63 watts. Works great for me. Most people think 26" is too small. not me though. LOL

  • So break it down for us technical idiots and intellectually lazy, please.

What is the approximate cost for the entire system so far in total?

How long has it been running? What percentage of your household energy use is it powering? And what dollar amount in energy savings do you think you have achieved so far with this system. We need a cost benefit analysis! LOL Thanks so much.

  • @CeCeUTwildlife Sorry folks. Didn't mean to double post

  • @CeCeUTwildlife HI, just jumping in here to answer this, it will take a while to break even on any alternative energy system even a cheapy can run into the hundred if not thousands of dollars, but, the cost of elec. will soon go up and may be tightly regulated even so far as having outlets that the power co. controls for you! so its more than just money. my 615 watt system powers 1/3 of my home. which is a large32 in tv/ monitor (double duty is good too) a quad core computer, fan window a/c !!

  • So break it down for us technical idiots and intellectually lazy, please.

  • cool man! you are an inspiration! getting out there helping youreself and enviroment 5 stars to you and thumbs down to the big mouth creeps who dont reconize youre brilliance go boy!

  • @spiritfilledful Thanks for the comment!

I am trying to do my part......thank you kindly!

  • You might love this stuff, but it clearly is not your strong point! Keep getting bigger and supply your needs! Joe

  • @toobroke2fight I do love this hobby but I can't afford a real system. At least I got what I got joe. Thanks for the comment.

  • 5 stars!!!

  • @Jthetinman It got better in this one still not much of an inverter.

  • i want some of that weed that you are clearly smoking 24/7 :)

  • @stdTrancR Haha. Wishful thinking,

  • @london1817 Good information though, thanks for the vid :)

  • @stdTrancR Thanks man!

  • did you think about wiring the solar some way straight through the original electric box so the power would go right through the walls and into the outlets..?

  • Great improvement over what you had before check out my solar panels I made they are high power and my charge controller on my channel.

  • Have you ever calculated how many kWh you can save over an average month with a system this size? I was looking at these panels, and a few from Northern Tool to create an experimental system for under $500.

  • @HotSauceJohnny I never have...let me know what you come up with on yours.

  • @london1817 ur solar setup isnt massive, think about the power u'd get if ur entire roof was covered with panels! would cost a lot i know, but think about the money everyone would save if we all had such a system, im definately gonna invest in solar power :)

  • @MrSweatyZombie Well. thats where you are wrong.

Everyone thinks its all about the pannels. How are you going to store

this power? To get the Batteries to run a house wow! You have no idea.

It is better to just be on the grid and be conservative. Solar is a fun hobbie for now.

  • @london1817

Well can't you feed the electric directly into the meter? My old mans friend did this and his meter actually goes backwards and he receives money every month from the electric company LOL.

Sadly I never seen his system but that is how he said he had it hooked up.

  • I WAS THINKING OF GETTING ONE OF THESE SYSTEMS FROM HARBOR TOOL SO THANKS FOR SHARING. COULD YOU TELL ME WHY YOU CHOSE TO CONNECT TO A BATTERY AND CHARGE IT VERSUS KICKING THE ELECTRICITY RIGHT BACK TO THE ELECTRIC COMPANY FOR A CREDIT? IT SEEMS THAT WOULD ALLEVIATE A LOT OF HEADACHE OF HAVING TO REWIRE AND EVEN NOT NEEDING BATTERIES. THANKS

  • @timmylongdong because a grid tied inverter is $8000us. Also the size of this system would not make a difference on the bill. PLUS without batteries you can't use the system at night. Or at all......grid tieds only feed back....means you can't plug nothing in.

  • thank you for sharing I saved this for my husband to see tonight.

    please keep them comming.

  • @frugalnanny Thanks for the comment!

  • Dude, I can't believe it took me this long to catch your update vid on yer system! I love it bro, your layout is coming right along and looking sweet. Don't cha just love those 6 volts? They hold a Hella! I thought I already subed.... laters

  • @fencekid Yeah man! 6 volt batteries are really good! I got the system on and running right now & every night.. Yeah that video update is old....but its still the same & doing great!

     Thanks for the comment!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @collintheapplegeek Yeah its a 12 volt dump load. I would like to get a grid tied inverter.....kinda expensive for me.

  • hey if you wire two 12 volt batterys to make a 24 volt do you use a 12 volt inverter?

  • @sonicspeed2009

Noooooo. Use a 24 volt inverter, with a 24 volt system. You can wire 12-volt batteries in parallel, rather than series, and they will remain 12-volts.

  • Comment removed

  • @collintheapplegeek The brand is "Xantrax" I will never buy one without a dump load Saves the batteries!!

  • Comment removed

  • so is it better than the good ole electric lights? Do you guys still have a bill?

  • @KasirRham My bill is very low...more because I turn everything off when I am not home...I think in the long run it would be cheaper to buy LED 120v...light bulbs for the whole house...most are 4 watts.

  • ok so how long before your $60 ebay dump load deal and $8 bulbs and whatever it cost you for the solor panel start to pay you back for the start up cost of this deal, bear in mind your running 2 light bulbs and a 67 watt Tv,my guess not in your lifetime, have fun tripping over the cords in the dark

  • can u tell me how much you spent and what items are there? thanks

  • Nice work man!

  • You might want to upgrade your batterys however because you will be replacing them quite more then you would a battery designed for solar and one of those will last you 20 years rather than a few on car batterys. costing more which somewhat defeats the purpose of having solar

  • @MegaFracture been working for years man...its all good.

  • @london1817 really ! that surprises me whats the battery brand? I think I want to check it out for myself.

  • This is great stuff, love the vid, You are pioneering the way for cheaper sustainable power for all

  • @Tote1883gas Thanks but if its not cheap .....count me out!

  • Comment removed

  • I like this set up. Do you think it is something a woman can do or do you need a person familiar with solar set ups? I have been watching all your vid's today and really enjoyed you and your wife. Keep up the great work. dale

  • @ldalemar2 Thanks for the comment! I think a woman could easily set up this system and have it running no problem. If you get the basic 45 watt system from "Harbor Freight" It is even easier. There is nothing to it just plug everything in( like 5 plugs) and shoop doopie doo.

  • Did you put your equipment next to your electric panel? wouldn't that be the best way to do it? so you can just wire in other parts of the house as you upgrade? i dont know a thing about this stuff just curious.

  • @clintcastle No...they are totally different systems...I didn't want to mix.

  • 1:50 - Kind of a waste to go from DC to AC then back to DC

  • @shize9ine.the lights are hard wired to it...then the inverter is for what ever I want to do.....charge other thngs...power tools...run the TV. All I need.

  • great setup man we are working our way towards getting a system to charge our laptops and battery powered stuff. we dont use a lot of electrical stuff other than computers and lights. we are getting a coleman electric 2 burner stove and an electric pot cooker. these things are all we really need for electricity. we want it to be fully portable to be put in the house or popup trailer if we had to bug out.

  • @FixedByDoc Great thinking! Why would you haveto bug out? Are you going to take it camping? Thanks for the comment.

  • @london1817 bug out refers to having to evacuate for some reason. up here we can have bad snow storms and major floods or forest fires all of which would make us have to leave our home in a hurry i.e. bug out. i also teach a lot of courses in disaster safety and first responder courses for various agencies. this means i have to go on a lot of disaster response calls like katrina and having the popup to stay in on deployment makes me and my team extreemly mobile.

  • @FixedByDoc Oohh....That's very important! & handy to know. You would do great with a solar panel system for recharging power tools and

radio's... cel phones...walkie takies. ... giant lights. bless you for helping people out in times of need.

  • @london1817 thanks

  • so have you figured out how much money your saving on your monthly bill from before you installed it? just wondering, i have that same kit, but it came with different charge box. was thinking of getting another, and running two. just wondering how much i could run conservatively on 100 watts. thanks

  • try to be able to explain how you did it, why you did it, what it does, don't just ramble.

i need some quality info so i can do it

  • Very nice bro. I just installed an Air X wind turbine in my backyard. We live in the country so I have nothing but corn fields around me for pleanty of breeze. My system is a hybrid solar/ wind. I only have a small solar panel but I want to build my own big ones. Next step is to vent the batteries in my garage to outside so no gases get in like yours I assume. Anyways, nice videos and keep up the good work. People learn from people and nobody is ever gonna learn if we don't show em first.

  • @Authorityk Hey!! Thank you kindly for the comment!

How many watts is the air X ? I have heard they are very awesome.

  • the Air X is a 400Watt 12VDC. It puts out just aroud 33 amps at full speed wind (20-30mph). I had a 40watt fuse hooked up while my turbine was running real fast and my solar panels were getting full sun . That fuse didn't stand a chance. Went with a breaker now.

  • tip : your LONG LONG wire from the battery to this charge / control having so muc
