This song has some blues rock elements that I find very refreshing. I am so grateful to have discovered this band. What a blessing to my life. Thank you everyone who has posted videos. Peace and blessings
Thanks. Ha! And here I have been calling Black Sabbath 'heavy metal' for like ever but I can totally see how the first five albums especially could be called 'doom'. The first album of metal that I ever bought was the greatest hits of Black Sabbath (on vinyl of course) in 1979.
Could someone explain to me (in a nice way if I may ask) why this band is 'doom metal'? I get confused with all of the genres, sub-genre, and sub-sub-genre. I was under the impression that doom has more growling vocals and is more slow than this sound. This sound is more or less what we have been calling 'heavy metal' for like 40 years or so...although I have only listened to like 5 or 6 tracks so far and this specific one does sound more doom-ish...
@Dhaelgraeve Thanks for your helpful comments. I have looked up the wikipedia stuff before and was completely overwhelmed with the plethora of information. It was also almost exclusively refering to secular bands of the oughties, nineties with some eighties bands mentioned and I am not familiar with most of those bands so cannot think of a sound in my head which would be the most helpful. Since I am a huge Sabbath fan that comparison really helped me to comprehend so much. Peace and blessings.
Doom-Metal isn´t always slow. Have you sometimes hear Forsaken. The singer don´t growl only a bit, and they´re not very slow. Hear it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@DancesWithJoy It's daunting, with no clear lines many times (like with death/black metal at times), and people can be pretty elitest. But, here's what I get: Sabbath influenced much heavy metal. Ozzy Sabbath definitely inspired doom metal (see Last Chapter, Type O Negative, Electric Wizard, Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, St. Vitus). Dio Sabbath fueled straight-up heavy metal (a la Heaven and Hell). Usually doom metal is slower, and very heavy. Vocals are usually clean, but growls pop up too.
@DancesWithJoy But you're right, there are many mixes and subgenres. Based on what I've heard of these guys, they lean more towards the heavy metal side, if you can envision something like a light spectrum. Schaliach is a good example of a melodic doom/death metal mix. It's hard to really mark clear borders, but on par, doom is usually pretty heavy. In my own opinion, Soundgarden's "4th of July" is also a good doom example--a very heavy riff. It's definitely one of my favourite songs.
@DancesWithJoy so black Sabbath is doom metal/ heavy metal... deep purple were more metal influence, and zeppelin had metal influence while its arguable to say that while Judas priest had metal influence they also had speed metal in em
heavy, yet smooth. I love it

If you're confused about the types of metal, I suggest you look up heavy metal on wikipedia.
And screaming is more often associated with Death metal than Doom Metal.
