  • @TheNoahLauzier creeper

  • I was lucky enough to tour with rush on the presto tour as one of the bus drivers!! neils my fav in the whole world and dude you did a great job !!!

  • Effing amazing job kid....

  • this is freaking bad ass! keep up the good work!!! :)

  • i think a good metallica song to cover would be battery

  • MY GOD! dude your awesome.

Im 12 yrs old too i cant even do that good man u rock keep up the awesome work ull be a professional some day i know it. how much was that kit?

  • u kickinin ass dude ...rush is awesome ....like to to see ya in more vids maybe with metalllica

  • Hey buddy. You did great, but you need to loosen up your wrists and shoulders especially during those 8th notes. Tensing up too much will cause you to waste much more stamina than normal and can lead to complications down the road. Keep that in mind and keep on playing man.

  • Hey Owen keep it up, you are doing something I could only do badly at. Again good luck to you man.

  • I would like to see you playing "Leave that thing alone"

  • hey owen do you have eny neil peart cymbols

  • Wow

  • Awesome cover and great playing, man!

But, man, you did tense up a bit during the song, right?

Try to always play relaxed and don't over do with power.

I always play as hard as i can and that only got me subacromial bursitis (a bad, bad shoulder pain) that hurts like a ***** whenever i play, so take care with all that stuff!

Oh, and try to not set up things too high :p

Congratulations on the cover, and i hope you keep on drumming!

  • how much did that kit cost

  • Great job!! Even Neil Peart says Tom Sawyer is hard to play (search for it in youtube)

  • Hi!! You're Awesome! I am also Twelve and a drummer, You Rock!! ***RESPECT***

  • Very very good! I looked at your videos, and I am a 14 year old drummer also, but you sir are awesome. I'm a huge Rush and Neil Peart fan as well. Continue drumming and you're going to be just as amazing as you are now. Much respect!

  • I'm a rush fan and a huge Neil Peart fan. I just have to tell you that I am super impressed by your skills. Keep it up.

  • Little bro u fuckin rocked it keep wailin!!!!

  • Pearl?

  • well done sir, you are talented as fuck!!

  • I thought I was the only drummer that plaued golf lol...also, your setup is not practical for a smaller..I get that you want it to look like neils setup with your 2 tom toms way up there, but I think it cuts away alot of your speed. And your mounted toms are way too far from your floor toms it seems like you almost have to jump to reach your cymbals lol if you tighten up your setup you will see your speed greatly improve..just my 2 cents...good stuff!!

  • awesome cover! what are your kit details?

  • This is so awesome!! Great job!

  • Wow.

  • Nice skills and kit, is it yours? Dude for 12 years old, not bad AT ALL. It would be great if you used your skills in a church worship band. I've been playing drums since I was about 7 or 8 and I always wanted to drum for myself, but now I drum for the Lord. :)

  • keep rockin my man

  • I am speechless. Neil Peart couldn't have done better himself. You are on the right path my friend. Sponsors should be all over you.

  • Owen my son got his first set for Christmas this year and for 8 years old he is good,. His teacher says he has talent too. Man you have IT! Whatever IT is you've got IT my friend. Keep up the great work and continue to inspire all the other young drummers out there. Great work!

  • Excellent job young Man!!!

  • try YYZ owen , im sure you will like it! im 16 years old and i have hard time playing rush songs , i can easily play YYZ and if u like rush and peart as i do u should give it a try! i would love to see u play. ALL THE BEST and have fun!!

  • @Sp4rk3rm3n I love that song!!! I'll work on it!

    -Owen

  • what size are your toms and all the haters im 12 and i play drums too

  • good drumming bro!

  • Nice... Ive been playing drums since i was 5 (im 16 now) and i considder my self a pretty good drummer... I love to play jazz... Anyway i was wornering how old were you when you started druming.

  • Brilliant love it big thumbs up from me

  • Okay I do like rush but only in small pieces but I gotta tell you watching drum made me wanna practice my guitar and singing. You sound great and who cares where the drum set came from. People who are fortunate to have things should not be punished. Keep up the great work

    Richard

  • Gotta have more cowbell.

  • What some people dont seem to hear is that your timing is spot on. And that is the MOST important thing in drumming. All the flash and techniques and all the drums in the world dont mean anything if you cant keep a beat all the way thru a song. YOU DO! Again, great job buddy!

  • Dude, I gotta tell ya, I love the way you handle the haters on here. You dont sink to their level. Very mature. Great drumming too! Keep up the good work. You got a future!

  • @bongofury67 Thanks man. -Owen

  • @bongofury67 haters?!? on him?! duude youtube is now a days is ugly D:

  • keep up the great work

  • not bad, but NEVER advertise your age. that makes you seem like a novelty. don't be a novelty, be an artist.

  • jeesh i've been drumming for 8 years now, i started when i was 10, and i don't about the rest of you, but i had to by everything i have for myself, all my drums, all my cymbals, all my drum heads drum sticks, hardware, microphones, cables, interface, and my computer i've worked and put in 4500 dollars if not more into my drumset and i don't have half of what this kid has at 18, and i didn't have a tenth of what this kid had when i was 12... at least i understand and respect the value of my stuff

  • Hi Owen. You are pretty good. Keep practicing rudiments. They are the base for everything else, even though they may be "boring".

  • Good cover, but use your fingers rather than your wrists for the 16ths =]

  • what size is your ride?

  • @98bforsy My ride is a 20" Zildjian K-Custom Hybrid Ride. Thanks!!!

    -Owen

  • Hey Owen all your drum videos are incredibly awesome. And I wonder if it was too hard to hit the 12' tom. Was it? But I know you changed the set up now.

  • You totally rock, right on!! To the people who think he is "spoiled" for his drum set...ever hear of investing in a child's future? Invest in their talent and dreams.

  • Great skills, keep up the dedication and commitment.

  • Owen- Why do you hold your sticks on end? My drum instructor always told me to hold the sticks 3 fourths of the way. Thanks!

    -Dueypupboy911

  • ok if you really are 12 you are insanely spoiled... that drumset mustve atleast cost 2000 dollars....

  • @MGDrumCovers More than that for sure!!!

  • @MGDrumCovers Many companies in the industry help me out. Have a look at La Villa Strangiato. Remember, what others do or have is NOT important. What IS important is that YOU always do your personal best. Thanks for the comment. -Owen

  • @OwensDrumming never mind those haters, you deserve that kit!

  • @OwensDrumming What all companies Sponsor you, Owen???

  • @MGDrumCovers Having nice things has nothing to do with being spoiled, its how you appreciate what you have.

  • @MGDrumCovers and if it was? you point is??

  • @zac030101 being 12 you shouldnt have a kit of this size since you cant get a job or do any work for a good amount of money.

  • @MGDrumCovers are you fuckin kidding me? what are you one of those stupid jerkoff socialists or something? if his parents can afford to buy him it whats it to you?

  • @zac030101 ... thats being spoiled that means if they can pay your way through school but you are a complete retard then thats what i mean. it just happens that this kid is good and has a big kit. you are obviously retarted

  • @MGDrumCovers no, this means your an complete idiot! jealous much?!? incase you didnt know he's 12! isn't allowed to work, you know child labor laws and such. you really need to grow a brain if your argument is he's 12 and shouldnt be allowed to have a kit like this. btw, how you know its not his dad's kit? just a thought. people like you always worried about what other people have really suck ass!

  • @zac030101 i know hes 12 and i know he cant make money, thats why im implying that this kit is expensive and the only way he could get it is if his parents bought it for him... if people buy you things just like that its unfair to the people who work hard but who still cant afford much... so why dont you use your brain

  • @MGDrumCovers use your brain! how is that unfair? if you really think that, then take your stupid socialist ass and move to russia. let me know how that works out. so because someone has some money and gets their kid a set like that its unfair to you because got a p.o.s kit? really? man, it really suck to be you. like i said, jealous much.

  • Comment removed

  • @zac030101 well although i would like this kit, im not complaining about not having it, im saying if somebody gets something expensive for free, the people who worked hard to get the same thing and see somebody get something they were working for for free, it would make me pretty pissed that they didnt have to try to get it. its like working at a job for months so you can earn enough for a car, when your friend gets a 30,000 dollar car for nothing.

  • @MGDrumCovers got news for ya, your fucked up thinking that way. get over it, its called life. have your parents given you anything? well you should throw it away then because somewhere someone else dont have it and you got it for free. try living useing your way of thinking. good luck with that. try not worrying about what someone else has, worry about you. what someone else has doesnt matter.

  • Comment removed

  • @zac030101 are you implying if somebody else has a gun and i dont and theyre pointing at me i should not be worried? hmm good logic.

  • @MGDrumCovers what the fuck are you talking about? you even know? grow a brain. like i said, try living by your fucked up way of thinking. but i would be asking alot, you cant even figure that out.

  • @zac030101 please calm your tits. im obviously arguing with somebody who has the same argument over and over. read your previous arguments. exact same thing. i obviously cant rage with somebody on steroids who flips out at everything i say. this kid is good, most likely better than me, but im saying that if he got that kit for free it seems unfair to people who cant have something like that.

  • @MGDrumCovers ok, for the last time. ITS NOT UNFAIR! CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THAT? and since you cant understand it ill teach you. if your parents ever gave you something, you got it for free. therefore you should throw it away because somewhere out there someone else cant afford it, so its unfair that you got it. again, live by your belief, have fun with that.

  • @zac030101 fair point, but there is a difference between getting something worth a hundred dollars for free and something worth thousands of dollars for free. most people can afford something worth a hundred dollars, not as many can afford something worth thousands.

  • @MGDrumCovers fair point,but...?really. there is no difference. $2000 to you is alot, but $200 dollars to someone else is alot too. there is no difference. come on man, my 10 year old can get this. hell $20 is alot to some people. just because its alot of money to you, doesnt mean someone shouldnt have it. but if you really believe that, take your dumber than dogshit belief and move to russia. that way noone will have anything and you should be happy.

  • @zac030101 maybe the reason you dont understand my point of view is because you havent really experienced what i mean. i have a sister who gets everything she wants without paying, whereas i have to pay for the things i want. i do get certain things for free, but she gets everything for free. she got a laptop for free, and ipod for free, a nintendo ds for free, a psp for free, and even more stuff than that. you should have to work for the things you want

  • @MGDrumCovers sounds to me like you got jealousy issues or a problem with your parents. just because someone has something you dont doesnt mean they dont deserve it. you dont even know how he got the set. if i was you id work on the jealousy thing, its not healthy.

  • @MGDrumCovers Are you kidding me? I'm jealous of his kit too, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't have it. If his parents can afford to get him a drum kit, and get him one instead of video games and junk food and shit, then good for him. He's getting an earlier start and will be better by the time he's our ages and have a better chance of doing something with his music.

I just unsubscribed from you and am subscribing to him, btw.

  • @TheYonderGod i think everybody is misunderstanding what im saying. i want his kit, but what im arguing right now is that having people buy your way up is unfair to the people who actually work for it. this kid is also good, but im just talking in general.

  • @MGDrumCovers Who really cares if he spent just that, good investment if you ask me. This dudes hella good on this song, im still tryin to get that open hi-hat stuff down, nice job Owen.

  • this video is sped up

  • @darthtater590 You're kidding, right??? Got a good laugh outta that one.

  • @darthtater590 lol yeah it is... cant you hear geddy singing 100mph? you fucking moron.. leave the kid alone.. he's pretty sweet..

  • Self confidence as a musician just lowered significantly

  • hey dont mean to be spamming but ur really good, do u think u can look at my drumming vids and give me some tips?

    thnxs!

  • Owen - You ROCK Dude! It is really great to see young kids like yourself playing classical Rock and just killing it man! Nice Job...

  • Great job!!! One song that I really like the drum part in is "Aja" by Steely Dan. If interested take a look at a live version of that song. I forget the concert drummer's name, but he is really exciting to watch. There are two great drum parts highlighted closer to the end of the song.

  • dude i dont see why ur age has to be included in the title this is already epic enough u basically dnt need to lol

  • I have seen alot of drummers in my day and kid you scare the hell out of me! your freakin amazing! BROVO! and very well polished! someday you will take the huge stage ! hold on tight! your in for the ride of your life!!!! -

  • Do you clean your Zildjian's often ??? Let me know asap, ty :)

  • @PiratedBox I almost never clean my cymbals...When I do though I use Groove Juice. The Zildjians I have are brilliant (14" A Custom Fast Crash) and Hybrid finish (20" K Custom Hybrid Ride). All the rest of my cymbals are Sabian Paragons and an XS20. I'm using two 16" Paragon crashes (brilliant), a 20" Diamondback China (brilliant), 14" hats (brilliant), and a 19" China (brilliant) as well as a 10" Splash (natural), an 18" crash (natural), and 13" Hats. I have an 18" XS20 china (natural) as well.

  • EPIC!!!!!!

    What kit are you using

  • the lessons youve been taking are helping with stuff like this keep it up

timing is better and everything sounds more solid

    sounds great

  • I am actually not surprised that younger drummers can play such pieces, the younger u are the easier it is to absorb knowledge, keep rocking, u have a future in this :)

  • I'm 15... Dad got me into RUSH as an INFANT. I would love to be able to do what you do!!! I have a passion for drumming but I never go to really start or get a set??? But I can annoy a Sub-Teacher and my Drama teacher tapping this song out with my shoe >:) Man you are a F*CK*NG beast!! best regards a non-drumming girl

  • think about a better throne! it will save your tailbone and give u best balance!

    great job!

    A++++

  • @daddysevenpointfiver Haha, I did... My butt was killing me!!! I got the DW 9100. Nice cushy seat. lol

    -Owen

  • Another excellent cover. I can't stop watching your videos.

The solo was a tiny itsy bit off, but still very impressive.

    Keep up the incredible work.

  • theres four people who are majorly jelous of u :) awesome

  • Im twelve as well, just uploaded a vid of me playin...main influences would be Mike Portnoy,Blake Richardson,Nick Mason,John Bonham....check em out please! (awesome video man,one of these days...we gotta jam out a Rush tune on stage!:)

  • Wow man, you kick ass! I need to know what crashes and ride are using in this video. Specially the one you hit at 1:22 , that seems to be your biggest crash there. Thanks and keep it up!

  • @martin7viola I'm using a 20" Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride, Two 16" Sabian Paragon crashes (Brilliant finish), a 14" Zildjian A Custom Fast Crash, and the one at 1:22 is an 18" Sabian Paragon Crash (Natural finish).

    Thanks for the comment!

    -Owen

  • @OwensDrumming yea i always knew that most of your cymbals were Sabian because Sabian's preduce a brighter sound than Zildians

  • @CSX8663 Correct.

  • you have my dream drum set! :D

  • is this way harder than subdivisions?

  • Just out of curiosity why is all your cymbals and toms so high? I mean I know every drummer sets up differently, but I like to have my drums to where I can reach them. hah

  • try play la villa strangiato, yyz, bastille day, cygnus x-1 book 2 (movements 1-4), cygnus x-1 book one the voyage, xanadu, anthem, by-tor and the snow dog, and the trees

With enough practice im sure you can do it!

  • @oriondrums2 Hey! Thanks for the comment. La Villa Strangiato is up here, and all the others you mentioned (except for By-Tor and the Snow Dog) I have learned. If you want, I'll record them and hopefully put them up soon. Thanks!!!!!

    -Owen

  • awesome Owen when do u think your next video will come out? =]

  • Sounds great, keep it up.

  • sick drumming man you are so amazing

  • Dude you are insane! Keep going man never stop a drummers life is the best trust me

  • Continue to practice. The world if full on fools that will say "I can to it better...." few are, and those that are rarely give negative discouraging advise. Play on little brother.

  • Jesus Christ...he's twelve...nice to see most of you recognize the kid has talent. I am a guitarist and my daughter is 10, just stared taking lessons. She wants to learn this cause she hears me playing it and I told her, that's great but you have a ways to go. Don't know whether to show her this to encourage her or NOT show it so I don't frighten her off LOL!

  • @spacetimeeternity Hey! Thanks for the comment. I think you should show your daughter this because when I first started, I spent hours watching video after video of people playing this song. Although I was a little discouraged that other people could play it so well and I couldn't yet, it made me have more of a drive and work ethic to get this song perfect, so I could play it as well as they did.

    -Owen

  • @owensdrumming He's just saying that cause he knows from experience. LOL! Cheers, LZ.

  • reality check mother fucker!

  • @tla3456 I'm twelve in this video dude. That's all I can say. Don't really know where you're coming from. And you say I'm the idiot? Aren't you like 27?

  • he will be come famous, then a drug addict, then loose his friends, then die lonely and wishing he wasn't an idiot. nothing personal but thats the way it is with all drummers who were great from the beginning

  • August Burns Red covers please? :D Your GOOD*

  • You have passed the test... Make your own way now.

  • owen - you are really an inspiration for me to keep playing, and as much as i love rush and see you play it, you should really think about recording some stuff with a band, unless you already have?

  • Some people got it and some don't.....You most definitely "GOT IT".....great job. Keep rockin!!!!

  • Owen, you can definitely rock on the drums!! I'm 43 years old and been a RUSH fan since "Permanent Waves" came out. I know you want to be a rock star ASAP, but you must stay in school! You won't understand the repercussions' of dropping out till you're older! But find ya the best bass player in town and you'd have a helluva garage band!! Good Luck!

  • Hey Owen! I saw your video. Very nice for a 12 years old boy. I’m not a drummer BUT I love music and I want to recommend you some bands in order to, as you said, expand your drumming. You MUST hear Mike Portnoy. Listen to “Dance of Eternity”. Kick ass song. Also I recommend you the next bands: Dream Theater, Seventh wonder, Symphony X. Awesome drummers Also listen to some Jazz, If you are good enough you will be able to play jazz.

  • Well done!! You have a talent! Come to RUSSIA, with RUSH 2:)))

  • МОЛОДЕЦ !!!! У тебя талант !!! Приезжай в RUSSIA , в составе RUSH 2 :)))

  • You play with the same look of tension Neil does. Loosen up.

  • @BrandonF06

Great minds think, and act, alike.

  • @BrandonF06 all come with experience, Mr. Moon:)

  • what state do u live in?

  • @xzide1 Connecticut.

  • You'll never be Neil Peart..........but i have to say those are some freakin awesome covers.....good job.

and by the way....i highly recommend taking the tom off the bass and then put your crash on it instead and then use the leftover stand from the cymbal to mount your tom.

  • FINALLY a 12 year old kid who can actually play better (if not as good) as the 30 year olds on youtube, you wont believe how frustrated i get when parents and kids put videos on youtube of 11-14 year olds and they completely blow, than people have the nerve to comment and say "good job" just to make the kid feel better but in reality they fuckin SUCK. I am a drummer myself and im 20, your as good as me if not better. keep up the good work, you can definitely make something out of this. Well done

  • hahal lol i can play 7/4 beats they are very fun !

  • OMG your friends with him ? are you famous lol

  • @speckytom Yep. I'm not famous though.... YET! I'm working on it!

  • ABSOLOUTELY amazing !!! i would be so much better with an acoustic kit but im not allowed 1 yet :( Try checking out Gavin Harrison ?!?!?

  • Congratullacions ! Very good !

  • Talent and taste.......I've viewed all of your performance postings. You're amazing kid.

  • 2 people missed the like button

  • How many times are the symbols hit in the song? Sheesh. I tried counting but the fades and transitions made it had to count. LOL

  • @crispyspa Haha, too many.

  • Great job, man.

  • do some dream theater:) i think you could handle it

  • @psychodrummer94 Ok. Actually, speaking of Dream Theater, I met Mike Portnoy (picture on channel) out in California. Thanks for the comment!

  • @OwensDrumming holy flying noodles thats amazing

  • Why are kids like this with real talent not seen and little douchcakes like Justin Beiber are?

  • You have definitely got some skills. Make sure you learn other genres of music to be more rounded. I'm a Jazz musician but you need classical chops before you can be a good jazz player. The same goes for drums. You can be an ok rock drummer without knowing anything else but to really good you must know everything.

  • holy mics bro, sounds very good though, keep it up

  • Whats that stand holding the splash?

  • @Mnog10 Hey!!! Thanks for the comment. I believe that is a DW SM909 cymbal stacker. I love it and it is extremely heavy duty.

  • @OwensDrumming now all you need is a mini alex and a mini geddy lee and you will have it owen:)

  • amazing job bro! i love rush. i play a little drums i try the rush stuff but that is way advanced for me. keep up the great work. i look forward to seeing more!!

  • your videos are great! I watch them all, over and over! you rock so does rush! You should check out some of mine.

  • your videos are great i watch them all over and over you rock so does rush!

  • Thats one hell of a kit so hows that sabian paragon diamondback im thinking of getting it juss want some feedback thnx

  • @astros2021 Hey!!! Thanks for the comment! To answer your question about the Diamondback, all I can say is that it's one hell of a china. It's a little thin, so you have to hit it easier than most cymbals, but the sound you get is incredible. I have a few dents in the bow where it curves up, but that is the beauty of the cymbal. Although, yes, it's expensive, it's well worth it in every aspect. Glad you enjoyed!!!

  • owen for 12 yo you are awesome

  • WHY WONT YOUR WEBSITE PULL UP?

  • @k9man007 its not done

  • this kid is Neil Peart born again!

  • Well done Owen. I'm one of the schmucks that asked for Tom Sawyer and you performed as expected. Keep up the good work.

  • Tom Sawyer is THE defining piece of music for the rock band RUSH, has become a part of pop culture and is a staple of classic rock radio. The multiple time signatures: 4/4, 3/4, 7/4, and 7/8 make it impossible to play for all but the most accomplished drummers. That is why Neil is considered by drumming aficionados to be "The Greatest Living Drummer". It is amazing that you can effortlessly combine Peart's stunning precision with Huge bombast at just 12 years old.

    Outstanding once again!

  • You nailed that owen. Your so good it's sick! This is one of the hardest songs to play. You will be a pro. P.S. I'm 11.

  • Awsome as always, O!! I wish you had the camera angle locked in at 2:35-2:45 from above, would have loved to see you roll that section from the upper angle! Love the ending w/o the accompaniment! Hope to see you guys soon, we miss ya~

  • Very nicely done, Owen! You continue to amaze! Keep up the good work. --ag

  • About time! No less than amazing, as well.

Under Armor should be sponsoring you...
