I thought I was the only drummer that plaued golf lol...also, your setup is not practical for a smaller..I get that you want it to look like neils setup with your 2 tom toms way up there, but I think it cuts away alot of your speed. And your mounted toms are way too far from your floor toms it seems like you almost have to jump to reach your cymbals lol if you tighten up your setup you will see your speed greatly improve..just my 2 cents...good stuff!!

What some people dont seem to hear is that your timing is spot on. And that is the MOST important thing in drumming. All the flash and techniques and all the drums in the world dont mean anything if you cant keep a beat all the way thru a song. YOU DO! Again, great job buddy!

jeesh i've been drumming for 8 years now, i started when i was 10, and i don't about the rest of you, but i had to by everything i have for myself, all my drums, all my cymbals, all my drum heads drum sticks, hardware, microphones, cables, interface, and my computer i've worked and put in 4500 dollars if not more into my drumset and i don't have half of what this kid has at 18, and i didn't have a tenth of what this kid had when i was 12... at least i understand and respect the value of my stuff

Great job!!! One song that I really like the drum part in is "Aja" by Steely Dan. If interested take a look at a live version of that song. I forget the concert drummer's name, but he is really exciting to watch. There are two great drum parts highlighted closer to the end of the song.

@PiratedBox I almost never clean my cymbals...When I do though I use Groove Juice. The Zildjians I have are brilliant (14" A Custom Fast Crash) and Hybrid finish (20" K Custom Hybrid Ride). All the rest of my cymbals are Sabian Paragons and an XS20. I'm using two 16" Paragon crashes (brilliant), a 20" Diamondback China (brilliant), 14" hats (brilliant), and a 19" China (brilliant) as well as a 10" Splash (natural), an 18" crash (natural), and 13" Hats. I have an 18" XS20 china (natural) as well.
I am actually not surprised that younger drummers can play such pieces, the younger u are the easier it is to absorb knowledge, keep rocking, u have a future in this :)

She wants to learn this cause she hears me playing it and I told her, that's great but you have a ways to go. Hey Owen! I saw your video. Very nice for a 12 years old boy. I’m not a drummer BUT I love music and I want to recommend you some bands in order to, as you said, expand your drumming. You MUST hear Mike Portnoy. Listen to “Dance of Eternity”. Kick ass song. Also I recommend you the next bands: Dream Theater, Seventh wonder, Symphony X. Awesome drummers Also listen to some Jazz, If you are good enough you will be able to play jazz.
You'll never be Neil Peart..........but i have to say those are some freakin awesome covers.....good job.
and by the way....i highly recommend taking the tom off the bass and then put your crash on it instead and then use the leftover stand from the cymbal to mount your tom.
FINALLY a 12 year old kid who can actually play better (if not as good) as the 30 year olds on youtube, you wont believe how frustrated i get when parents and kids put videos on youtube of 11-14 year olds and they completely blow, than people have the nerve to comment and say "good job" just to make the kid feel better but in reality they fuckin SUCK. You have definitely got some skills. Make sure you learn other genres of music to be more rounded. I'm a Jazz musician but you need classical chops before you can be a good jazz player. The same goes for drums. You can be an ok rock drummer without knowing anything else but to really good you must know everything.

@astros2021 Hey!!! Thanks for the comment! To answer your question about the Diamondback, all I can say is that it's one hell of a china. It's a little thin, so you have to hit it easier than most cymbals, but the sound you get is incredible. I have a few dents in the bow where it curves up, but that is the beauty of the cymbal. Although, yes, it's expensive, it's well worth it in every aspect. Glad you enjoyed!!!

@zac030101 maybe the reason you dont understand my point of view is because you havent really experienced what i mean. i have a sister who gets everything she wants without paying, whereas i have to pay for the things i want. i do get certain things for free, but she gets everything for free. she got a laptop for free, and ipod for free, a nintendo ds for free, a psp for free, and even more stuff than that. you should have to work for the things you want

If his parents can afford to get him a drum kit, and get him one instead of video games and junk food and shit, then good for him. He's getting an earlier start and will be better by the time he's our ages and have a better chance of doing something with his music.

Great job!!! One song that I really like the drum part in is "Aja" by Steely Dan. If interested take a look at a live version of that song. I forget the concert drummer's name, but he is really exciting to watch. There are two great drum parts highlighted closer to the end of the song.

@PiratedBox I almost never clean my cymbals...When I do though I use Groove Juice. The Zildjians I have are brilliant (14" A Custom Fast Crash) and Hybrid finish (20" K Custom Hybrid Ride). All the rest of my cymbals are Sabian Paragons and an XS20. I'm using two 16" Paragon crashes (brilliant), a 20" Diamondback China (brilliant), 14" hats (brilliant), and a 19" China (brilliant) as well as a 10" Splash (natural), an 18" crash (natural), and 13" Hats. I have an 18" XS20 china (natural) as well.

I'm 15... Dad got me into RUSH as an INFANT. I would love to be able to do what you do!!! I have a passion for drumming but I never go to really start or get a set??? @martin7viola I'm using a 20" Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride, Two 16" Sabian Paragon crashes (Brilliant finish), a 14" Zildjian A Custom Fast Crash, and the one at 1:22 is an 18" Sabian Paragon Crash (Natural finish).

Jesus Christ...he's twelve...nice to see most of you recognize the kid has talent. I am a guitarist and my daughter is 10, just stared taking lessons. She wants to learn this cause she hears me playing it and I told her, that's great but you have a ways to go. Don't know whether to show her this to encourage her or NOT show it so I don't frighten her off LOL!

@spacetimeeternity Hey! Thanks for the comment. I think you should show your daughter this because when I first started, I spent hours watching video after video of people playing this song. Although I was a little discouraged that other people could play it so well and I couldn't yet, it made me have more of a drive and work ethic to get this song perfect, so I could play it as well as they did.

Hey Owen! I saw your video. Very nice for a 12 years old boy. I’m not a drummer BUT I love music and I want to recommend you some bands in order to, as you said, expand your drumming. You MUST hear Mike Portnoy. Listen to “Dance of Eternity”. Kick ass song. Also I recommend you the next bands: Dream Theater, Seventh wonder, Symphony X. Awesome drummers Also listen to some Jazz, If you are good enough you will be able to play jazz.

and by the way....i highly recommend taking the tom off the bass and then put your crash on it instead and then use the leftover stand from the cymbal to mount your tom.

FINALLY a 12 year old kid who can actually play better (if not as good) as the 30 year olds on youtube, you wont believe how frustrated i get when parents and kids put videos on youtube of 11-14 year olds and they completely blow, than people have the nerve to comment and say "good job" just to make the kid feel better but in reality they fuckin SUCK. I am a drummer myself and im 20, your as good as me if not better. keep up the good work, you can definitely make something out of this. Well done

You have definitely got some skills. Make sure you learn other genres of music to be more rounded. I'm a Jazz musician but you need classical chops before you can be a good jazz player. The same goes for drums. You can be an ok rock drummer without knowing anything else but to really good you must know everything.

@astros2021 Hey!!! Thanks for the comment! To answer your question about the Diamondback, all I can say is that it's one hell of a china. It's a little thin, so you have to hit it easier than most cymbals, but the sound you get is incredible. I have a few dents in the bow where it curves up, but that is the beauty of the cymbal. Although, yes, it's expensive, it's well worth it in every aspect. Glad you enjoyed!!!

Tom Sawyer is THE defining piece of music for the rock band RUSH, has become a part of pop culture and is a staple of classic rock radio.
