I actually love this!!! And les mis is my most favourite thing in the world!!! But I heard Samantha barks from the 25th anniversary convert is playing eponine in the movie :D
Eponine is my favorite character in the musical "Les Miserables and I can't imagine Taylor Swift singing "On My Own". I like her songs "A Place in this World" and "The Best Day". But if she could only sing like Frances Ruffelle or Lea Salonga, she would be fitted for the role. But she is not. Samantha Barks is the one who can play it well. I think Taylor would just make a fool of herself is she play Eponine. I'm a fan of Taylor Swift, but I'm also a Les Mis fanatic.
THANK GOD SHE WILL NOT BE EPONINE!! honestly, it would of ruined the whole movie for me. She's good at singing RADIO music and nothing else, she doesn't have the vocal capabilities, range or technique to pull off even a DECENT Eponine. I think she, herself (Taylor Swift) realized this role is wayyyyyyyy out of her league.
Despite being a Taylor Swift fan I´m really really REALLY happy she didn´t get it. I mean, seriously, a pop star in a musical just to get more attention or something?! That's plain ridiculous. For all the "Swifties" now yelling at me for being a fake fan - I'm also a musical theatre freak and I know Taylor can't do Eponine, so I'm being honest. YAY SAMANTHA BARKS ;DDD
@wwwino I agree. I love Taylor, I've got all her albums and have seen her on tour, but I'm much more relaxed knowing Samantha Barks has the role. It's a role she's familiar with and is much respected for her potrayal of it at the 25th Anniversary Concert, the Royal Variety Show and in the West End (which I was lucky enough to see).
She may have been the underdog against these "hollywood stars" but in the end she was the obvious choice and I'm thrilled for her.
Forget Taylor Swift! Have you not heard? The legendary Cameron Mackintosh himself has just announced on stage after a show on the national tour of Oliver that Samantha Barks will be playing the role of Eponine! :D
I hate how they're going to make this movie very "hollywood". I hope she shows Hollywood how the West End do it.
Now all they need is Alfie Boe, Ramin Karimloo, Earl Carpenter, Katie Hall and John Owen Jones and we got ourself a movie!
swifties are all like "she gonna be great, lea can't sing or act, talor is the greatest singer in the world", but if she suddenly has to pull out to go on tour and can't do the movie any more than i wouldn't mind at all.
@thecullenist1019 Not to be rude, but I think the point the uploader was trying to make is that Taylor Swift is a country singer and doesn't suit the role of Eponine. There were THOUSANDS of other singers they could have cast in the role, and why they picked her over Lea Michele from Glee who actually HAS played the role of Eponine before, I don't know.
I myself am a fan of Taylor Swift, but ONLY a few of her songs, and when she sings COUNTRY music.
@rikkulockhart15 Russell Crowe is apparently in a popular australian rock band and Eddie Redmayne has a lot of music theater credit as well :) ..... I hope taylor swift can pull this off : /
@lexiestreeter Well, rock music is also completely different from music theater, but if he has opera training and talks with some of the previous actors who played Javert like Roger Allam (London original cast,) Terrence Mann (Broadway original cast,) Philip Quast (10th anniversary concert cast,) and Norm Lewis (25th anniversary concert cast,) I think he should be fine. And it's good to know that Eddie Redmayne has music theater experience. I just hope Taylor Swift does too. :/
@rikkulockhart15 Well she must've done something right because she beat out a lot of really good candidates. But I agree with the Javert thing... I personally think that Norm Lewis would do a great job in the les miz film :)
@lexiestreeter I really hope so. Because if she doesn't, then she'll make a fool of herself and the Les Mis movie will be TERRIBLE. I swear that if they auto-tune the songs for her sake, if she fakes an accent, or if her hick accent randomly pops up out of nowhere I will be PISSED. -_-X
Yeah, I love Norm Lewis (though Terrence Mann is my favorite Javert,) but unfortunately Broadway and voice actors aren't famous enough to get cast in roles like this which is retarded. -_-X
@rikkulockhart15 Oh my god I am with you 100% on this! I'm sure they can somehow auto-tune her if she's bad...which worries me because I read something online about how they plan on singing on set instead of using a studio. I'm not sure if that was a rumor or not. But another problem I see is the acting.. If she can't act then its over for me. hhhmmm I've never seen Terrence Mann..... also, I agree I think if Broadway actors are more experienced, then they should get the parts.
@lexiestreeter Oh god NO. They're going to sing on set instead of in studio? That's a guaranteed disaster WAITING to happen, especially considering Hugh Jackman's going to have to sing REALLY high on "Bring Him Home" (a scene in which he'll have to be carrying Eddie Redmayne.) It would be a WHOLE lot better if they recorded the songs in the studio and THEN added in their voices after they had the scenes ready.
@rikkulockhart15 Well that's what I heard. I agree even though I'm pretty confident with Hugh Jackmans singing. He's pretty good but I've never heard him sing les miz so I'm not sure. I'm sure it'll all work out since Tom Hooper is directing and I think he will do a great job. Oh and I just heard that they added Colm Wilkinson... he's going to play the Bishop in the movie! So maybe there's hope :)
@lexiestreeter I heard him sing as Billy in Carrousel and Curly in Oklahoma, so I think he should do fine as Jean Valjean, so long as he can hit those insanely high notes.
Well, that's cool! It's nice that they're adding original cast members too.
Now let's just hope Taylor Swift has a hidden talent or that she has a conflict and has to decline for Eponine's role and that Lea Michele gets the part instead. Eponine's my favorite character and I REALLY don't want her part ruined
@rikkulockhart15 I loved his role as Curly! He's such a great actor :) I think he can handle the high notes and Yes...i so agree, I honestly think Lea Michele should have gotten it. I think Eponine is my favorite character too, its a sad character but I love her all the same. I hope she can get this right. Especially when she sings "On My Own" because thats such an great part of the musical.
@lexiestreeter Yeah, I loved Hugh Jackman as Curly too and when I saw him performing "Soliloquy" from Carousel I was just blown away. I think he'll be able to nail Jean Valjean's high notes, especially now that they've got Colm Wilkinson playing the priest. If Hugh has trouble on the high notes, then Colm can probably help him out, because I'm sure Colm had trouble at first too.
I know. Eponine is my favorite and A Little Fall Of Rain is beautiful. I hope it isn't ruined. D:
@rikkulockhart15 Ha ha yep Colm has this under control lol I have total faith in them both. So two things might happen. 1- I'll leave the theater b/c a little fall of rain was ruined or 2- I will be bawling my eyes out from the beauty of the song... I guess we'll know in December
@lexiestreeter Yeah, I know. I will be fine if Taylor Swift ruins On My Own since TONS of people have covered that song to DEATH and I've heard it ruined before, but if she ruins "A Little Fall of Rain" and makes Eddie Redmayne look bad, I will walk out in the middle of the movie (use the "I have to go to the bathroom" excuse on my parents, who will probably be present with me there) and NOT go back in. B/
@rikkulockhart15 I just don't think she can act the part... Plus I can't see her as a brunette...it'll be strange.... AND FORGET THAT!!!! I'll just stand up in the middle of the movie and say "Well that just ruined it for me" then walk out ha ha :) but if the people who go to see the movie actually know about the show and the character..... then they will join me lol :)
@lexiestreeter I heard him sing as Billy in Carrousel and Curly in Oklahoma, so I think he should do fine as Jean Valjean, so long as he can hit those insanely high notes.

2. I've seen her live also and I can tell you she sucks. She can only play Taylor swift and their is no way she should have beaten fuxking lea Michele for the damn role. Taylor cannot even act
@LexieCoehn Are you talking about the one that has never been published and no one has ever read it? That Novella? I apologize, I'm sure its just as good as Victor Hugo's powerful, intimate depiction of life during the french revolution...

Taylor Swift needs to stick to country music. Lea Michele would have been a MUCH better pick. :/
At least the other cast members have some music theater and/or opera training:
-Hugh Jackman has been in several musicals.
-Anne Hathaway has a GORGEOUS singing voice.
-Amanda Seyfried has opera training.
-Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter both are humorous AND can sing
-Aaron Tveit has LOTS of music theater credit.
The only two I'm not sure about are Russell Crowe and Eddie Redmayne.
