Brendon... you old soak - (sorry chap... viewer's (poetic) licence)... great run, but where is Ian Mc Cafferty and where is Phill Brown on you tube? - their runs should be remembered too...
@markgregamy No, Viren had tore his left Hamstring and lost much training in the lead up to these championships. This was as a result of increasing his mileage to fit the average Finnish volume at the time, but it proved counterintuitive. It's never been proven that Viren was on drugs, so I suggest you drop it.
Time has changed. Europeans dominated in long-distance running at that times.

I think peoples are underrating a bit long trip runners nowadays.
Before(1974) the things was different i think.
Finland had many good runners, nowadays is only Keskisalo and Sandells.
Foster looks very good sportman.
Also many sportman are good persons, such like own persons haha.

I think Brendan Foster would have made easily a new world record those days.
It was then 13. 13, 0. If Big- Bren would have done his best. I would have been about 13. 10 or even better.

Pity it wasn't the Olympics. One of the bravest front-running performances in athletics history.
