Charlene Tilton aka ''The Poisoned Dwarf'' was very little use after the early episodes. They never mentioned that she had an affair with her ''uncle'' Ray, Well he was after all Garys half-brother.
Lucy was originally conceived as a vixen, more like the Fallon character from Dynasty. But Charlene Tilton didn't have the chops to pull off that type of character (check out her painful performances in the early episodes). So they changed Lucy into more of an ingenue, but there wasn't much they could do with her from a story standpoint.
how cool would it have been,if lucy and mitch were given a spin off,i wonder why they didnt, then maybe lucy's character would get some good story lines, not justt the same stories with different guys
@asongforxx456 I still don't know why producers brought Lucy back. She did next to nothing for 2 years before being let go a second time. Charlene Tilton did look fabulous though when she returned in '88. She must of had a breast augmentation because those jugs were big on that tiny, but hot, body. They should of had Lucy be an Alexis-style bitch, buying and selling people just for her own amusement. Instead, she had an affair with Casey Denault and then did nothing for the next season & a half.
@sambuka72002 I like Lucy too. She was spunky & always stood up to JR. It was a shame that the writers never really gave her an entertaining or substantive storyline. A waste in my opinion.
I am not really sure why the Lucy Ewing character was brought back in '88. I guess the producers felt they needed to bring back an original, female character as the show had already lost Victoria, and would soon be losing Steve Kanaly, Priscilla Presley & Linda Gray. As with prior seasons, Lucy was not given much of a storyline. Having Casey Denault use her for her money was the same storyline Lucy last had in '84-'85 (Eddie Kronan). I will admit that Charlene looked better than ever in '88.
The part that is funny is when mitch caame back to get lucy, he goes up stairs at southfork and is never seen again. Its like he got caught in the bermuda triangle..
It would have made more sense for Mitch to have encountered Pam in his treatments for burns instead of the silly way that Bobby found out about her. On the other hand, Pam going to Mitch would have not been too bright if she wanted to stay annonymous.
Barring all of that, DALLAS was on life support at this moment.
@bacrane you are so right. It was such a waste to get Charlene Tilton back and then to give her absolutely nothing to do. She should have been a huge part of the last few seasons, it was a real chance to reconnect the show back to it's glory years.
If they were going to have Lucy return, they should have recast her. Tilton was fine in the role as a teenager but as an adult, the character needed a different persona to be an intriguing part of the show.
Jeez, Lucy. You knew Mitch was in medical school when you first started dating him all those years ago. When you married him for the second time, he was a doctor in demand then, and even now you're not satisfied. Get a life of your own, girl!
but still she never showed her breasts! I think the historical imprint the show left on television history may have been more significant had she exposed her mammeries.
Lucy is one of my fav characters. fav storylines include the season 1 drug storyline, the season 4 fights with Mitch, and the s4/5 rape and Mickey storylines. They should not have let her go.Stupid Dallas producers.
I agree with other posts,we missed out on some bitchy scenes between Lucy and Abby on Knots Landing, still glad Lucy came back to Dallas for a while though, there were very few orginal characters left by then.
I agree. Then the writers seemed to have lost interest in the character. There were great opportunities. Having her on Knots Landing only once was dumb.
I never really understood why they brought her back....I always felt her character had become redundant a long time before she left the first time. Plus, it was a shame that her character was never used more in Knots Landing. Will all that her parents thru on that show, yet no Lucy
Well, the reason that I heard that they brought Lucy back was for new person to take on J.R., but it didn't turn out that way all. Once again Lucy became just an extra person that was at Southfork. I do believe that she would have been a great character if they had added her to the cast of Knots Landing. Guess they never thought of that.
Yes, you are right. They could have done so much with the show. It could still exist today if they used nowadays ideas in the show instead of doing something new and then stopping it again (Melrose Place, Titans, Beverly Hills)
Even though the Dallas/Knots Landing universe was torn apart by Bobby's death by being just a dream, there is still a lot of necessary elements that are still left up in the air to this day. One of them is Lucy meeting her younger sister and brother.

I agree the did not let her grow all they did was use all what could have been her future storylines in the first 3 years. I

Lucy's stories were never really relevant to the show. They had a few good stories in the first 3 years, after that, RUBBISH!!

That's been a frequent complaint I've heard from Dallas. Sad shame

Oh...they did this story already. I thought Lucy got all her whining about being a doctor's wife out the first time.
