People feel the need to be led rather than lead and fight for something. Why? Well...for starters... ...its just easier to not care and let someone else think for you.

Do we elect leaders for them to speak OUR minds? Why do we orient ourselves with a party? Denomination? Class? Structure? Nationality? It gives us a reason, all be it a false one.

Just because I am a statist does not mean that I don't realize that the most awesome power is in the soul of the individual. People still need to empower themselves! I disagree that individualism is our nature. The evolutionary and archeological evidence points to tribalism as the basic human nature, and tribalism (Not anarchy) would be emergent.

Tribalism is our nature; we have evolved to be social creatures but only within our own tribe. That is the key to understanding what is the source of these institutions. They are not a crutch, but control. There is a difference, and it is not a bad kind of control IMO. They are there to control the tribalism and create societies that work together between tribes.

That being said, the institutions have been exploited and corrupted by people for their own gain. Again, it is just human nature.

Thus the problem is not the institutions, but people. Which is why anarchy can not function past the tribal level.
