coal dose not kill like nuklear power energy when something messes up and does is not as bad as everyone says i kno. i have seen it and i thank th miners for my power.
Presently, the alternative sources of energy are not efficient enough to replace the use of fossil fuels. Until then, we will keep using these fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas). Secondly, our economy depends on the production and use of these fossil fuels. What most do not realize is that if we did move away from these fuels, the economy would be crippled. So truly there are two problems that must be solved, and unfortunately the second, being the economy, is of far greater consequence.
Also, where do we put the unclean stuff they strip from the coal? Clearly the "old dirty coal" isnt the same as the "new clean coal" right? So "dirty" stuff is condensed and stored somewhere, right?
There IS no clean coal, unfortunately nobody in power in the US will admit this because of the influence of the coal industry! Obama supports this non-existent, self-contradictory fallacy as part of a "green" energy policy along with that other canard, corn-based ethanol (which is polluting and inefficient, it costs more energy to produce ethanol than the ethanol itself gives off!).
Keep in mind McCain supported all of this as well. It didn't actually matter who was elected last term...
This movie contains an image of a "clean coal" facility which does not exist. Nuclear plants should've been ready now to take the load that coal currently does.
Unfortunately the Greens have done a really good job of scare mongering in this area.
We are in the final days right now.
The politicians either act now or our children are doomed.
Nuclear waste is a problem, but it's a problem that can be isolated to a hole in the ground in our vast, geologically stable desert.Other countries have managed it safely for decades why can't we?
replace it with newer technology, wind power and solar power togheter form a permanent energy collecting system, or a synergy. and we are able to suply 100% clean energy from solar, wind, biomass and hydrotechnology

I think all those who don't support coal or clean coal technology are being ignorant to the fact that we all use coal is some way or another, and therefore have no right to complain about coal.
CO2 and CO are highly salable chemicals. The padded chair you're probably sitting on has a polyurethane foam cushion in it. Carbon monoxide is one of the components of polyurethane, and carbon dioxide is used as a blowing agent in PUR foam production.
i made an invention that i call the clean coal solution it does not allow any smoke or soot to leave power plants or smoke stacks it also recycles the smoke and soot back into reusable fuel check out some of my videos
damn, america is stiupid, you can't store CO2 underground, it leaks out through peoples water and would fume up neighboorhoods. Plus, there is only one CO2 storage facility in the world.... it would take 10 of those to store all the CO2 from one coal plant and uses more energy to store then the amount of energy actually made. sounds good tho.. right? They try to play it up with the nice lean looking, white lab coats and not show what it actually takes to make that somewhat "possible"
How does one go about buying coal? I would like to buy some for this coming winter. Since Global Warming turned out to be a hoax, I would like to survive.
part of global warming is that over all the globe warms u, but also the winters get harsher as the atmosphere tries to correct the imbalance. Its an easy concept to learn, but you have to look into the issue yourself, and see it as a scientific issue, and not a political issues. The rest of the developed world gets it but America. Because we let the politicians tell us what to think via the media.
It's a weak scientific theory that is not supported by evidence. Further you have it exactly wrong, global warming would result in warmer winters, this is confirmed in the IPCC reports.
Still Global Warming stopped 10 years ago, and its been cooling for the last 3 years. Do you think that maybe, the computer modelers did not fully understand the climate of the earth, which makes thier models worthless? Is that possible?
CO2 from coal burning can be absorbed by algae. There is a practice, which is being tested by NRG Energy from Louisiana runs like this: rather then sending carbon emissions up the smokestack, the CO2 is used to grow algae, which then can be harvested and used as biomass for re-firing in the plant or converted into liquid biofuels for transport. Renewable Energy World estimates that two million tons of algae would be required to capture one million tons of CO2.
And speaking of that, why dont we use algae to stop global warming?
not toopractical. besides, the carbon atoms don't just "disappear" after being absorbed by algae...unless they bury it, which is a waste of money in the first place
carbon itself does not radiate/decay, nor does cause posionous effects. Problem is, what they are burying is not only carbon (probly the dead bodies used as fuel too) =P
yes, lets dump the liquid into river valleys, and wait 10 years for the dam to break and overflow the countryside like in tennessee last week. or better yet, we can blow mountains into giant craters and dump it in there!
Sure even if you could get coal clean, you would still sacrifice thousands of lives and destroy hundreds of mountains that are filled with hundreds of species of plants and animals that will never come back. Sound like a good deal?
This is BULL. There is no such thing as "clean coal". All coal is dirty. They are saying that MAYBE in 20 to 30 YEARS, they will find a way to burn coal cleanly. IT DOES NOT EXIST TODAY, and this is just another way coal and oil companies are lying to the public.
Coal doesn't come out of a hole, around here they practice "Mountain Top Removal". Thats right, they just blow the whole darn mountain up and extract the coal.
1/4 of Wise county has been destroyed by MTR, 1/3 is under permit to be.
Chances are when you turn on a light in most of the U.S. its from a power plant fueled by coal. Coal mined in my back yard.
Clean coal is the lie of the century. Let's hope we wake up to it by or else there won't be a 'century' for us. See yourselves as 'evenrgy innovators' as opposed to the 'coal industry'. Save your ad bucks and do something real.
Thanks coal industry, for paying my dad enough to send me through graduate school, like many others, so we can identify your flimsy propaganda when we see it! The American Dream.
You forgot to tell people about blowing up the world's oldest mountains in the process! Clean coal: bury, flood out, and poison the hillbillies! Hooray!

Coal must be phased out as soon as it is possible to do so.
Or coal will kill us all.

Except that given the fact that Coal plants now have to comply with the 2005 Clean Air Act, since they've exhausted their grandfathered capacity.
New Coal plants are 3x more expensive than they were before.

And 6x more expensive if you include carbon sequestration.

Effectively making Coal far more expensive than even the most costly renewables.
