my father lived in winnipeg when this movie came out in the 70s, he is 40 now and this is still one of his favorite movies of all time, he has told me he watched it 4 or 5 times in theatres, we have it on VHS, and it is a classic

Whatever. It's a satire of the music industry in the 70s that uses "Phantom of the Opera" as a springboard. It is by no means a straightforward adaptaion. I don't see "based on the book by Gaston Leroux" in the ending credits.

Tell me, what is a "good" adaptaion?

A De Palma nunca le volvi a ver el talento y originalidad q muestra en esta peli. Despues tratando de ser un nuevo hitchcock se ve ramplón en comparacion con esta gran pelicula. Tengo la sensacion q habia un gran director con un proyecto personal q nunca pudimos ver a excepcion de en el Phantom of the Paradise

lo que lei en una entrevista a paul williams fue que le conto a de palma que el se sentia a veces como winslow, usado, manejado por la industria hasta que tomo el control de su carrera...y por ironia del destino hace el papel de villano de terible swan....cuando tenia el corazon de winslow.

es un apelicula alucinante ...y william finley (winslow leach) canta fausto al mejor estilo de los pinistas compositores de la epoca elton john, gilbert o sullivan , billy joel,con una mezcla de pianista loco tipo beethoven....es una de la mejores partes de la pelicula ....tremendo tema de paul williams

raulevich, tenes razon en todo es una pelicula que a pesar que ya tiene 34 años es muy buena yo ya e gastado el dvd de tanto mirarla lastima que hay muchas operas Rock de esa epoca pero no se consiguen y estan muy fabulosas, saludos y gracias por postear...Diabolik®

Realmente una pedazo de pelicula, de banda sonora y de mito en torno a El Fanstasma de la Opera y a Fausto. Aun estoy impactado por esta pelicula y leyendo lo que puedo sobre ella (en wikipedia en ingles hay bastantes datos).
