my dad loved this song and it brings back memories from when he was alive... I can't believe it will be a year on May 13th... I don't know if I will ever stop grieving even though I've been told that at some point you do move on with your life... but I don't think thats true for me.

Though this is pretty music, it seems to me rather sad. I think that On Golden Pond needs to be more full of life. Granted, not a "happier" tune, but more of a well rounded feel; Like a this is this year, but next year is coming. Not just death and goodbye, but a hello and a dance between the two.

@ignorance15bliss The people who dislike this are ones that the music brings out a distant memory of loss or recent tragedy. It is a general response for those that have not been able to accept or deal with lifes' unfortunate and sometimes great sadnesses that happen.It's mostly a subconscious reaction to what they cannot put words to. The music is simply too hard to listen to and see the beauti of it. For me, it reminds me of the loss of my father; the man who taught me to fish, gone 40+yrs

I have listened to this song over and over for 4 hours straight! It is the best piano solo. I learned how to play it in a day, I'm a piano player of 21 years! Amazing song!

Me and my dad use to watch this together I never cried watching the film as a little girl but now I my parents aint together and I don't see my dad no more I cry hearing this song brings back memories.

Best I like of this movie is the very low budget. Both Henry and Peter Fonda made hugely sucessful movies focusing on the individual and essentially WHO and WHAT life is shares meanings. Golden Pond is Classic.

yeah, it is so beautiful and one of my favorite movies of all times! Kinda reminds me of the pianist Phillip Aaberg a little. This is one of my all time favorite movies as well. Thanks for your comment Mox3

I think the most amazing aspect of this music is how skillfully it evokes the aura of a pond at dusk in late summer. You can close your eyes, listen to the music and not just hear the sounds of the pond, but see them vividly in your minds eye.

Truly a masterpiece and one of my favorite pieces of music -- along with John Dunbar's Theme from Dances With Wolves.

@caexplr I agree with you completely. One the most beautiful songs ever written. I once saw a world champion figure skater skate to this for their long program, and it was sooooo beautiful to watch someone figure skate to this song.

@VenusInPisces Denis Bielman skated to this music and she was gorgeous. But even better, were Tai Babilonia and Randy Garder skating to this music. I think both videos are on YouTube. The person who would skate it best is Dorothy Hamil--but alas she has never done so. (My Venus is in Pisces also-- :-)

I live in NH also, never have been to squam lake, Love the movie. Love the Conway area in fall, truly beutiful, if it wern't for the winters I'd never leave but we are moving now to MD after 12 years here/

this music just warms my heart and lifts my soul. much of what makes "on golden pond" such a nice movie are the images of the beautiful scenery - squam lake in new hampshire - and this wonderful music! great post, RaplhOnUtube!! thanks!! five stars!!

My grandparents live on Squam Lake in New Hamphsire which is where the film was shot. We used to go up there every summer. They are selling the house now thanks to the economy. It's the end of an era for my family and this movie resonates with me much more becuase of that.

love this film and this score, it's meaning was life doesnt always bring us acceptance in the ways we wish, but if we can find a common ground then we can move past it. A good message. and Henry fonda's last film.

This is the piece which caused me to start playing the piano.

Main aim in life was to play this piece and George surely did it justice.
