When I heard this piece being played it brought many images to my mind and even reminded me of a certain things of when I was a child. Everything I have heard this man play is uplifting and beautiful. If he were to play something earthy-natural to your standards I bet he would make you cry. He plays from deep with in and is a true master. We should not be so critical of something so positive.
I don't know why people like to put so much reverb on a shakuhachi... it takes away from the earthy-natural tone that is so embedded in its history and character.
