There is no such thing as a 香港公民, but only 香港市民 and 中國公民!! If there is no 香港公民, how can 公投(公民投票) be legitimate constitutionally !?
The use of the word referendum (公投) in this campaign was a dangerous choice of word ... 毓民 was clever, his original slogan 五區總辭,變相公投 was good, the word 變相(de-facto) was a clever choice. I ask, Who was that idiot that removed the word from the slogan !!
you ar erigth, as i think that the "de-facto" is important and clear to describe the way this movement goes. but civil party did ask that the 5 district resign isn't good and complicated, then lsd negotiate to change slogan.

people's council, the governing body can interpret laws in whatever way they want and that is not unprecedented. relax, in a democratic free world, law breakers will be charged and prosecuted so it appears that no law (and basic laws) has been violated.

公投-冇-違反基本法, 因為香港司法係以普通法原則, 即係法律內冇記載係違法的, 就唔係違法, 而基本法係小憲法, 小憲法冇改變司法原則, 而本港法律根本冇公投法, 亦冇反對公投的法律, 所以係冇違法.
而小憲法唔係直接管制人民的, 而係作為政府施政同制法的, 所以人民本身係唔可能"違反基本法".

其实中央如此的跳出来大声呼喊违宪，已经令其本身失分不小，但是中央有着更大的顾虑就是真的让泛民选赢，他那时更难说话，失分更多，所以他要走这部棋。公投是中共的一个死穴，所以他强烈反对台湾公投。
