Japan is no more special than any other country. Every country is special and has potential. Many of you simply have on a nice big good 'ole pair of rose-coloured glasses. Japan is not a wonderland or haven and has many social and economic problems. In the top 5 for highest suicide rates, anyone? No, you really don't. It's not all great and fun like this. From going to Japan and talking to students, maybe they didn't say it directly, but it SUCKS. And also talking to certain foreign exchange students I have learned it's not all that great at all.

Many leave the country simply because they want to work to live, not live to work. I've been to schools in Japan a few years back and the teachers put a lot of pressure on you and everyone there treats schools and clubs as if it's their life. I go to school here now, but I like the system here alot better than Japan.

@Axlkill My uncle has a wine business over there, and he has a friend who wouldnt exactly be your "strict" parent, but his son is still tormented by his grades. The pressure is there from the authorities in school and on some level, from his friends, if unintentional. What are those school charts called again? Where they rank you against every other student in the school regarding grades. It has a specific name, I forget. That's just an example.

@Axlkill It's certainly not always "hell" over there, I don't want to be mistaken to be painting that picture, but for some it most certainly is and it comes close for many, many others too.And again, for a lot of people this follows them even after school is over into the workplace.I feel that must play a majour hand in why Japan is capital for consumer goods and technology; the people NEED their escapes, it's not a luxury, it's a necessity.

While it tends to produce better educated, more skilled people, it also causes intense stress. That's why Japan, a top developed nation, has the #5 suicide rate in the world, compared to the USA at #41. I'm just saying, no place is perfect. That being said, I have a great desire to visit Japan someday and hopefully meet Mr. Choo in person. :)
