@ballokratoras It's in small print - but it's in a lot of places. It's particularly more prominent in the business section. The sad truth is that Linux has earned a bad rep over the last decade - so they're trying to avoid putting people off of trying Ubuntu/Linux and open source software by leaving out the word 'Linux' until the user has tried it and discovered they like it. That way if they love it then they can say they love Linux. It's hard to avoid the word if you're using the OS.
@st3w132cki3l Why did Linux have a bad name? I mean, at my internshit, if it wasn't for certain things like Exchange, all of our servers (even domain controllers) would be running Linux. Also, Linux runs on almost every device including your Android smartphone. I don't see why Linux would have a bad name.
@bartjoboy A while ago a lot of people tried linux before it had any drivers or fancy GUI's or any codecs. It wasn't up to par with windows at the time - in fact it paled in comparison. When it was presented to these folks it was presented as 'linux' and not as the distribution. Most people considered it terrifying to have to go into the command line to install everything and the constant breaking gave people headaches. When those people see 'linux' now they instantly remember that experience :(
@ballokratoras No different than not seeing the word "Unix" anywhere on a Mac webpage. I agree though, Linux has earned a bad rap. Not undeservedly so though. It's not the easiest to work with, and you have to be willing to get down and dirty a bit to work with it. Ubuntu does rock though, and the many derivatives. (I use Mint Gnome).
Great presentation. Looks good to see Ubuntu growing. Jumped on the boat on Ubuntu 10.04. Now happily running 11.10, still one of my favorite Ubuntu releases to date. Really great improvements on Unity. :D
If Linux is to have a chance to become a real option as an OS, there needs to a distro for which new users will NEVER read help that starts with "Go the Terminal and type ... "
Ease of use from the point of view of a new computer user is paramount.
Instructions for fixing 99% of what will go wrong with a Mac, for example will fix on one side of a sheet of paper. Linux users need to be able to make the same boast.
Good job Ubuntu community. I have been using Ubuntu for about four years and now I am running 10.04 at work. However, I think by unity it went in a wrong direction and I had to ditch Ubuntu for Fedora on my laptop. I hope that the great community constructed by the good decisions in past years in not destroyed by some wrong decisions.
You know, I love Ubuntu. It is amazing. It is growing, and becoming better and better with every release. It is modern, and will continue to grow because of how modern it is. The Software Center has grown by leaps and bounds. :D Keep going Mark!
I worry about Ubuntu Mobile, from Ubuntu history they never were great in implementing a great user interface... I hope it will change...

I wish we could get this with some decent audio. This is just too straining to listen to, even tho I'd love to hear what he said.

These keynotes seem to become more professional each year, I really hope Ubuntu and Canonical continue to do well and focus on the long term.

Good presentation, overall. Very interesting to see where Ubuntu is going. The sound quality is a bit off, unfortunately.
